All right, when I look at my shiny termy boys, I start thinking: All right, they sure look darn cool, but what can they actually do?
Can terminator suits run? If yes, how fast?
Can they jump?
How much do they weight?

Terminator armoured troopers can run, although this is limited. In one book (cant remember the name) supposedly, an Terminator did an backflip. The armour is really heavy, but the powerful exo-skeleton, combined with the body mass of an Astartes will allow to do incredibly feats of speed and manouverability. They can jump, but again this is really limited.
Heres more information based on the subject: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Terminator_Armour
Hope this helps

Run?
- can't sweeping advance so maybe not that fast...
JumP?
- high or far? But IMO too bulky without jumppacks to help..
Backflip?
- yes.
weigth?
- dunno...powered armored suits like TDA carry themselves IMO. Does weight matter? Never heard they couldn't cross bridges so it shouldn't be soo much..
The terminators advance. Slow and steady. Unstoppable ( in fluff ). May jump down as the armor will hold. But running or jumping across gaps?

They can't run flat out, they can kind of jog along ponderously. It'd have thought they need to keep one foot on the ground at all times, so the way they move in DoW is probably quite accurate.
Can they jump?
Not really, the armour is too heavy and cumbersome.
How much do they weight?
A lot. They require adamantium ribs in suspensors are needed support its weight, so you aren't going to find Terminators doing parkour (at least in anything not complete garbage, I'm lookin' at you, Dawn of War series).

In regards to weight, Deathwatch reckons a suit of Terminator armour is 400kg, unarmed.
Thats a LOT of weight, though most is carried by it's own systems while powered.
For you colonial types, thats 880lb.

Yeah, this is actually what I was kinda thinking of. The heart of the matter IMO is if one leg of the suit is powerful enough to entirely lift the armor off the ground for a short instant, thus making some real running possible. But doing backflips??? edited for spelling

Yep. Backflips. CS Goto says it, so it must be true.

Terminators can run as a brisk pace, they're not gonna dart across the battlefield like Eldar. The main advantage of terminator armor is its nigh impenetrable to anything but anti-tank weapons and can teleport. I remember Chaos Terminators in Dark Apostle basically walking through volleys of lasgun fire and laughing. Armor of a tank around a soldier.

As with all of 40k it depends heavily on where you look, but as for studio material, the 4E Marine Codex does state that "Space Marine Terminators are not able to pursue a more lightly armoured foe when they flee", explaining their inability to perform a Sweeping Advance, as 1hadhq pointed out. On the other hand, we have another book saying that "a wearer of Terminator armour can move and operate with remarkable freedom and agility considering the sheer mass of the actual armour", although this does not necessarily contradict the first sentence and may well have to be regarded in context.
I've also never heard about Terminator armour interfacing with a Marine's Black Carapace, which is only ever mentioned in conjunction with their normal suits, but it may well be possible and simply considered "taken for granted".
Unfortunately, I didn't find any indication as to its weight in the studio books, but it is always described as bulky and heavy across the board, which seems to be the accepted norm outside GW material as well. The exact weight would likely differ across various sources, anyways, as it does with power armour. Just pick something you feel comfortable with. In a way, even Goto's backflipping Terminator is a valid interpretation - if not one that I'd subscribe to. I like "my" Terminators slow and lumbering, like some mobile wall of "feth you".

well they have to at least be able to run as fast as the guard and tau can walk. otherwise they'd never get into close combat.

You never said the terminator had Lightning Claws. Regardless, Terminators don't deploy 100s of meters away from the enemy, and they don't deploy alone or against targets as soft as Guardsmen unless there's something more important near by, in which case running Guardsmen are out of their concern.

lol I said power claw, when I mean lightning claw. and it doesn't matter if they're 100 meters or 10 if they're really THAT slow they really pose not threat without actual weapons weapons instead of pointy sticks, as you can just, you know move. They do need to be able to at least jog. Only exception being close quarters.

Aldo I must agree that we can only say for sure that they cannot run. Walking fast is not the same as running, it's something between walking and running.
For point 2 and 3 I am not so sure, so because of purplefood I searched wrought books and internet and founf this:
http://darkreign40k.com/drjoomla/index.php/armoury/weapons-and-armour/926-terminator-armour
I have read like 100 times that standard Astartes in power armor is somewhere around 1 ton. So logically Terminator armor must be heavier since it is 3 times bigger than standard Astartes power armor. And here we data that Terminator armor is 500kg heavy, witch would meant that standard Astartes armor is around 200-300kg.
So I can say for sure with this info that Terminators can jump, if they are heavy 500kg only.

Yeah, I have to disagree too. You may argue that a termy suit can't run and jump, but if the suit's legs are powerful enough to perform a jump (as you say in your post), that means they are powerful enough to entirely lift the suit off the ground for a short instant, and that's basically the difference between running and walking fast.
So if a termy suit can jump, it can run IMO.
And finally, did you think for a second before writing that a terminator suit weighted 2-3 tons ??? If the suit was this heavy, it would be making holes into the ground while walking, bridges, platforms or even a basic dirt ground would not be able to support its weight.

The Emperor doesn't have a GKs unshakable faith in the Emperor which is....basically himself?

And finally, did you think for a second before writing that a terminator suit weighted 2-3 tons ??? If the suit was this heavy, it would be making holes into the ground while walking, bridges, platforms or even a basic dirt ground would not be able to support its weight.
Isn't the regular Astartes suit weight 1 ton?
Not even close.
Now, some people take FFG fluff as canon, some don't, but I think it's the only place exact weights have been given, and as I already said, a terminator suit is 400Kg, or 880lb, empty and unarmed.
Now, that is a lot, and a standard weapon loadout " SB and PF) would add another 60odd KG. Then add the weight of the Marine, and we are probably just over 600 - 700kg.
That is a LOT of weight, but not 2-3 tons by any means.

also, it's not EXACTLY true that if the suit can jump then it can run, because it depends on how high the suit can jump, from what position, and the gravity. I'm sure on phobos even terminators can slam dunk. High gravity worlds on the other hand even marines couldn't jump ... Also these suits have relentless not slow and purposeful, so I don't think they're too terribly slow.

When Abaddon was fighting Loken on Isstvan, it mentioned him being as fast in terminator armour as a normal marine in power armour, so they're definitely slower than others. They can probably run to some extent though.

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it. |

It mentioned him being 'almost' as fast, that the Terminator armour caused him to lose some of his speed/

Weight probably is going to vary depending on how the Terminator suit is kitted out. It's not as if there is exactly a standard pattern or configuration here... especially if you dig into the earlier fluff.
Also, considering that its been possible in the past to equip titans with jump packs to enhance their mobility (yes, Imperial Titans) and they actually can use the giant robots to fight in melee, I don't find it all that implausible for them to be configured for flexibility or agility (including backflips, but I don't remember from the books if that was how it happened - it was either Warrior Brood or one of the Dawn of War novels with Tanthius)

It has long been my opinion that both terminator and power armour must have some form of small anti grav device keeping the weight down. How is a marine ever going to be able to get across a swamp or even walk up wooden stairs (reminds me of an epic thread on /tg/).
