IGN defines a 10.0 -- a masterpiece -- as "the pinnacle of gaming, a masterpiece may not be flawless, but it is so exceptional that it is hard to imagine a game being better." That's Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. From start to finish, single player to multiplayer, this game sings. The characters, the graphics, the sound, the story – they’re all top notch. If you’re willing to skip Uncharted 3, be prepared to miss one of gaming’s finest moments.

10-Presentation
The cinematography and the way the game tells its story blew me away. It's touching and entertaining.

10-Graphics
Amazingly beautiful -- just watch sand cascade from Drake's footsteps, water slosh across the screen, and the wrinkles crinkle on characters faces. Naughty Dog outdid itself.

10-Sound
Spectacular voice acting, fantastic sound effects and an emotional score.

10-Gameplay
Refined climbing and shooting are better than ever, but it’s the way your actions merge with the story that impress.

10-Lasting Appeal
Single player deserves multiple playthroughs, just like your favorite film. Multiplayer is deep as well as rewarding and will keep you coming back.

Whoa, a perfect 10? I'll agree that the last two were awesome games, and that IGN had a total hard-on for them, but that's quite a feat. It just seems that this game keeps looking better and better

IGN probably got paid big bucks to put that score on the game. The other two weren't exactly spectacular.

The multiplayer (in the third uncharted) is god awful, I played some of it as eurogamer.

Meh, I wasn't a huge fan of the multiplayer in the second Uncharted...I was hoping they would've made it better for this one

If anything it was worse...

In the third compared to the second.

Its single player wasn't that much better. Some cute concepts, but just... nothing special. I'd say it deserves an above average score, 6-7 out of ten, but mostly because it's relatively bug-free compared to many games. It's certainly not "gamergasm" levels of game design quality.

I thought the first two awesome games. Heck the first one was a launch title. When are they ever good?

I thought the multiplayer in the second one was refreshing from the sea of FPS games, so I am looking forward to this one.

I would say a perfect 10 is dead on, especially if the game is better than the last two.

IGN gave Mass Effect 2 a 9.3/10, and they give THIS game a 10/10.

Don't bs me with your 9.3, and you give THIS game a 10/10.

I thought it was a 9.6 on 360 and a 9.5 on PS3?

As for the reasons, I would say it has to do with the little touches Uncharted 3 has over ME2. Stuff like Cascading sand around drake's footsteps really help in the graphics scoring. No idea how it would score less in presentation and sound though. They were top notch in ME2.

Meh, how can it be a pinicle of gaming? I can already tell you exactly what happens without having played it;

Spoiler:
Drake goes through several catastrophe's barely living through each of them by a hairs breath. It's almost like he has.... plot armor....

I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.

If they had plot along with presentation, graphics, sound, gameplay, and lasting appeal then it would probably knock its score down to like 8.0 right?

Sadly that is a problem with a lot of games now. I remember back in the day my friends would skip the dialog in games. Nobody cares about plot, even reviews.

A large part of the review is about how Naughty Dog apparently don't go for the standard betrayal/twist story plotline, and actually have a very well developed, original story.

Can I please borrow your time machine? The game doesn't come out for over a week, but you're talking as if you've already played it, and it's already been released.

Why I like Dark Souls; all gameplay, NO story whatsoever

But unfortunatly... it's getting panned by reviewers for not having enough story....

Probably referring to Uncharted 2's multiplayer.

ah, that makes sense.

I think it was the fact that the topic is regarding Uncharted 3 getting 10/10, so I assumed that the score Melissia was talking about was for Uncharted 3, not 2.

It was the same with Demon's Souls but hardly anyone noticed since it was a PS3 game. Dark Souls has the story but you have to look for it. Too many gamers want a good story line shoved in their face. People spend money on a genre they don't enjoy and then bash it for not being what they like.

I've only played the demo for Uncharted 2, and didn't enjoy it as much as the freind who recommended it said I would, so I didn't get it, but I'm thinking that I'll give number 3 another chance.

In my mindset, no game deserves a perfect 10. A 9.5, at best a 9.75, but never a 10. That's to suggest that EVERY LITTLE DETAIL is perfect. And with human nature, that's just not possible . Now I don;t have a PS3, and I can't say the games are bad, nor am I saying the games are bad. I'm just saying that it's definitely not perfect.

In your base, ignoring your logic.

Game reviewers are fickle when it comes to rating games. Hell, Resistance 3 got crap for being "unoriginal" because it was like Resistance 2. If something is being itself then you can't really say that its unoriginal.

Oh, my mistake, I was looking at the score for the Australia version, which scored 9.3, UK scored 9.2, and US scored 9.6, you are correct.

Still...10/10? If you aren't going to give it to Mass Effect 2, which is in the top 5 best games ever made, NO game deserves it.

So what you are saying boils down to "WTF? HOW THIS GAME BEAT MY FAVOURITE GAME IN CRITICAL REVIEW?".

Basically, as I see them in a similar light.

I'll let this one slide, IGN, but if you don't give ME3 a 10/10, if it is of the same quality, or better, than ME2, you will BURN in the fictional land of hell.

ME2 was meh, interesting story but got kind of boring over time. Although it was only $20 when I got it for my PS3 so I can forgive it a bit.

Personally I thought ME2 should have been a perfect 10 as well, but maybe they saw something I didn't.

Also people need to understand that this isn't the first time a game got a perfect 10. GTA IV and Super Mario Galaxy got a Perfect 10.

So did these and many others:

Melta Gear Solid 4
Read Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare
Mario Golf (GBC)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Melta Geaer Solid? Man, I want to play THAT game instead of Metal Gear Solid...

You can't trust IGN or any other big video game reviewer now a days, their all either paid, or fan boys....I think it's both equally...

I have never heard of that one. I did a quick google search and they corrected it to Metal Gear Solid. Are you sure you are not thinking of that one instead?
