I have no idea if this is reliable so take it with a fair bit of salt
I was talking to the guy in my lgs and he said that sob were meant to get their models released in plastic at around febuary . He mentioned a couple of infantry sets (think grey knights) as well as a couple of new tanks/veichles. He also said 6th ed of 40k was meant to come out sooner than expected around april.
I have no idea if it was reliable just thought id let it get some circulation and thought.

That's exceedingly unlikely and would show a level of secrecy previously unseen.

And I don't see much chance of the sales being anything but underwhelming, since that WD codex is almost universally hated. However, if 6th edition were to come out in February, that would be super.

Even more unlikely is an early 6th Edition release. Not with the usual holiday catalogue of expensive gift items GW is already flogging in their stores. 6th Edition will likely come in the summer just like all the recent core Warhammer rule book revisions. GW is smart enough not to compete with themselves, that's why Dreadfleet got a whole month to itself as the only new release. February? It's possible, but it breaks all precedent of the past few years. Even years ago before summer was the main time to release Warhammer core revisions it used to be in the fall around October. February would be a surprise and definitely unexpected.

If the SoB were getting new models this year, they would have done a proper codex to go with it.

Well, if the reports of SoB plastic boxes were true but delayed for the WD codex, it would be nice to see them end of december. It would also make sence because of the lack of SoB finecast, making the coming of Sister models sound plausible.
Not that GW would make a major game release for xmas, but stilll.

Sounds like old rumors recycled as new. As far as I know GW has not released many new armies/codexes in December. Usually Oct/Nov are the release dates for stuff intended for holiday sales. I think its more likely SoB will get a new dex sometime after the first 6ed codex is released, so sometime in 2013 most likely. I expect no more then two years after the WD codex will pass also, more like 18 months, but who knows.

Some folks are saying to hold off on holiday spending because the best deals will come out closer to x-mass. I don't think GW is a "plan B" type of company, but if December sales are not what they hope a cool end of 4th quarter release could help them with the 4th quarter numbers. I don't think they would do that, but at the first part of fiscal year 2012, nobody is going to want to report anything less than spectacular 4th quarter profits. Even if it means tossing grandma into the resin vat to make an extra buck.

Huh? GW has not done sales since 2003. With the exception of bundle deals (i.e., quantity pricing bundles) like Battleforces, Battalions and limited run larger bundle sets like the Orc Brigade and the wonderful Apocalypse deals back in 2007-2008 and the very limited occasional sales on select items at some Games Day events, GW has not had organized sales in their retail shops in more than 8 years. There are some new army bundle deals coming in December and those are already advertised in their December gift catalog along with new items like Skullvane Manse. Many independent sellers offer discounts and have sales, but GW is still in their "no discount sales" mode. There are also two new Army Cases coming in December and I'm sure they'll be the usual $99 and stay that way. The 40K logo case is brown for the first time. The War Store is having it's annual Black Friday Sale coming up soon: http://www.thewarstore.com/index.html?p=1511

Thanks for the heads up on that!
Back to topic.
Very true, but part of the holiday sale bump is from people buying stuff for little Johnny. GW is enough of a niche market that they don't have as much of that type of bump (true for RPG too) I would bet. But If little johnny's mother is not buying until the last minute it's going to make a lot of retailers nervous. It is also clear that GW at times has a hard time understanding it's own customer base. So we know they are not going to markdown, and if they need a little boost post holiday(still fiscal 4th quarter ) they have a surprise early 2012 release. Don't think it will happen, but GW can be pull some knee jerk reactions. I love the idea of the army bundle deal and those will drive average ticket numbers up at the retail end, ah...can't think of what they had at those price points last year.
Off topic, I can just imagine the pita of a flood of returns from kids who got a box of assault terms instead of the vanilla they asked for.

The only way I could see GW releasing the new minis for SOB is if they had a proper codex ready to go. Given the time between the Blood Angels WD Dex and the actual Dex, it's not at all impossible that the SOB codex could be with us by February. I doubt we'll see 6th edition 40k before Summer 2012 though.

You act as if precedent matters to GW. They're GW. They do what they want. What if this is their master plan?
Step 1: Print intentionally weakened SOB Codex in WD; flaunt lack of new models, forcing mass sell-offs of metal minis to third-parties*.
Step 2: Release intentionally buffed real SOB Codex and awesome new miniatures 3 months later in greatest secret campaign ever.
Step 3: Profit while laughing maniacally.
* These 'third-parties' are secret fronts for GW who are melting down the purchased minis to take them out of circulation. Yes, gwfan0708 on eBay is a GW employee.

You are giving GW far too much credit, they aren't a shadowy mega-corporation. I don't think they've had many mass sell-offs of Sisters of Battle either, the prices of the minis in the third party market have DROPPED. Before the WD codex, people would gladly shell out close to $80 or more for a battle sister squad. Now at $60 of all new metal models, people complain to me about prices.... They also, would not step on the toes of the Necrons within a 2 month period.
GW may not have the best minds in the business world, but they do understand giving their product lines time to breathe after a release.
If we saw Sisters, it would definitely be after Christmas. Fortunately, it's been said many many times and even discussed that the Black Templars are going to be the next Imperium release. They have new kits ready and they have even begun to release them into finecast. The necron codex involving Helbrecht had litle to do with his finecast release. ^.^ It was just a fluffy reason they put up to help sales.

That jives well with what I heard BoK announcing about 6th edition earlier this year. I think this is a reliable rumor. Also, I am angry/hurt that alien signals can only be used in conjunction with CIA. It is a SLAP IN THE FACE.
