I chose to do Ragnar's Great Company........I am gonna cover a few of my choices before the pics are posted so people know why I did what I did

Wolves (Fenrisian & Thunder): I chose to do more of a black, gray, creme scheme......not mixing in brown at all.......looking at the pics of the wolves in the drawings in the codex they appeared very dark and menacing......In fact it was a Blackmaned wolf that Ragnar killed in his Test Of Morkai

Bears: with the bears I wanted to do a more brown to a reddish brown fur.........They needed to stand out differently from the wolves

army colors: primarily black with Shadow gray and sahara gold.......I wanted a color scheme more befitting of warriors who come from one of the three most dangerous worlds.......rustic,earthy, fierce

I am not going with Fenris as described in the codex..........I think of it still as dangerous but not due to extreme climate but because of the wild life.......Asaheim has large areas of mountainous plateaus more than 1000 meters (3280 feet plus) above sea level.....The highest mountain (Niflhel) is 2469 meters and is permanently covered in ice and snow......It is this mountain that the Test of Morkai are made.....It is at the base of Niflhel where the Fang is found.......below the mountains in the river valleys are agricultural plateaus.......the plant life green and fertile and covered with evergreen trees......the wild life consists of many species but some of the most dangerous are the Fenrisian Elk, Frost Wyrms, Fenrisian Mammoths, Fenrisian Wolfves, Thunder Wolves, Great Bears, Kraken, Ripperfish, Sea Wyrms, , Ice Fiends, and Snow Trolls......warm waters and westerly winds keep the ocean from freezing and the harbors open in the winter.....the summers are mild but the winters can be heavy in snow and ice.......their years are called Great Years and are roughly 2 Terra Years as they are great distance from their sun.....due to this fact their winters last the length of 1 Tera Year

with that i said I hope you enjoy......keep comig back to see my work

also when I play I play in Apocalypse games.......so you are gonna see some stuff that normally isnt in the SW codex

P.S. I am all for suggestions......but if all you can do is be negative then post elsewhere......you get much farther by posting your likes and then making suggestions as to how to make things even better

Finland... the country next to Sweden? No! That's Norway! Finland is to the east! No! That's Russia!

What about Sven, Olf, Åke or Fredek?

Sweet Jesus, Nurgle and Slaanesh in the same box!?
No, just Nurgle and Slaanesh, Jesus will be sold seperately in a blister.

A bold take on the space wolves. That Predator makes alot more sense now!

Perhaps not the neatest painjob, but I actually like the theme.
It looks a bit glossy and thick in the paint, and perhaps the faces could do with some more detail, but as a whole I think they would look great on the table. But I have to say the grassy bases look a bit of, both with those dark colours and your view of fenris as grim and harsh.

Some great details too: Skadi, Ivans bat and the white scar guy makes a great break from the standard SW special HQ, and you even managed to get Canis not to look like an idiot IMO. I like this army more, the more I look at it.

Thanks for sharing, and not caring for the Fluff Fanatics.

Edit: and great to see that old Bjorn model, humble old warrior that dont need to bling up like the wet behind the ears dreads wandering around the battlefields nowadays.

The decission to do grass was two fold

1. even in the codex it describes the weather to change

2. snow bases match in very few places but grass has a tendency to fit in more often

whats funny about the glossy comment...........i Use krylon matte finish for artists..........the lights in the room arnt strong enough for pics so I use my flash

Fayric: tell me why you think its not the neatest paint job.......Ive always heard my painting is clean but I need to water down my paints

which the thick spots look ten times worse on here then in person......It's the blue that keeps doing it.....when I have to give it a second coat

To talk about the 'its not the neatest paintjob' . I agree.
But, if you don't like feedback (even not positive), then do not read this.

They lack depth, which can be as easy as applying a wash and then re-highlight with the base colour.
The paint looks very thick and the matte finish does not really work that great. They still shine. Maybe its just the flash, but never ever take photo's from a model with a flash. It ruins the whole paintjob.
The bronze and black don't seem to have any highlights as far as I can see. And which so much black in your army, the black is supposed to look good.

Black is easy to paint. Just paint it black. But to make black really work you need to work on the areas around the black. It can be as simple as a darkgrey highlight (on the top edges?) to as sick of blending black to grey.
What the black also does is make them look like a blob of black. If you can catch my drift here..
You got black armor, black weapons, black beards, black grenades, black metal tubings, black pets, etc etc.
If that's what you want its fine, but you can add allot more depth of just making a subtle difference between the blacks (again the highlighting helps) or by painting (for example) grenades a dark green.

And for the basing, just grass does not look that great. A quick way of making a base nice is just sand the base. Where you got your grass now, just put sand there. But do it before you undercoat your model.
This way you make the sand black and it will stick even better to you base, too. But after you painted the model, paint the base the desired colour. As an overbrush, then a light drybrush of some other lighter colour that fits.
And at that point, add spots of grass.
For example (I use GW colours);

Basecoat it black.
Overbrush of Charadon Granite.
Drybrush of Dheneb Stone.
Add grass.

Because if you paint that base with the model it just looks more.. fitting? Only grass, just like unpainted sand, is 'to real' for the model. It will look out of place.

And although they are tabletop quality, there are allot of things to improve. If you want to ofcourse.
I hope you take this as just positive feedback. I do not mean to be rude or anything. But you got to see your faults, and know how to overcome then, to grow in painting (and anything else in life for that matter).
And you can always look online for tutorials ('From The Warp' is a good one) or just post and ask on these forums.

Good luck!

Deefect: Thank you for the awesome feedback

starting off with the grass.......I guess to better explain my self as to why just the green grass.............think roll up rubber green grass mat for terrain..........I am gonna have to have something that I can pick up and take down as far as terrain............I plan on doing grassy hills rock area.......think Star Wars Phantom Menace Naboo droid vs gungans.........alot less than what I originally wanted but due to the fact of storage and not being able to do a snow basing on the game board to do what I originally wanted.....I have to go simple

black is not just basic black.......I dry brush the black with a pewter gray......the black on the guns is actually a pearl black paint...........again this is probably a lighting effect problem......there is also some merit in what you say where I could do more

lighting/matte finish aka the horrible glow......a good example of one I forgot to use flash was my primarch Leman Russ

I rather not

Seriously, some great advice fom deefect.

And you could still add some spots of grass on sand bases to make them more, well, grassy. The grass gave me a feel of the Celtic theme in SW codex, especially with that librarian having some kind of kilt, but personally, I think it bring down the grimdark feel of the models.

The details you do is kind of clean, no problem there, its just the dominating thick black makes them blobby, like Deefect said.
I think you use washes on the bone and faces, do it for metal parts and hair as well.

I can't see some of the pictures, but what I can see I like. I really like all the nice little conversions that you have done here and there. They really add a lot of character to an army.
Great work!

The reason why nobody is responding is because there isn't much to say, your painting is tabletop standard at best, go look at some guides and take some of the advice. Above all practise.

you may see tabletop standard but i see someone who doesn't have a cookie cutter looking army... and who has had to overcome a medical disability to paint.. so considering lakotawolf has severe tremors i think his army and tanks look great!!

I don't see everything GW says as having to be cannon............there is no creativity stuck in a world like that...........half of the stuff they come up with dont make sense

ex. Baal Predator armed with assault cannons and heavy bolters...........why couldnt another army have that same tank............what about that is something no one else could make.........Furiuoso Dread.......with 2 lighning claws......again why couldnt the army who specializes in those have that type of dread.........Leman Russ tank for years was in the SW codex and now its gone

need I say anymore......GW isnt known for making sense at times

It's a shame about the glossy finish and rather sucky (sorry) basing, because the actual modelling on these is brilliant. The tanks are quite well done, but you seriously need to work on the skin, it looks a bit...bad.

Nice try though. Keep up the good work!

Man people arebeing so harsh. I think that your modelling is going GREAT. Seriously, they all look really really good. I am especially proud of your Leman Russ, as that is completely how i belived him to look. Not some babyfaced ginger gaylord but a true blown up version of Logan. He is the FATHER of the space wolves! Great job! as for your paintjob, it is an alright job. the only irks i have is the skin and also (this to personal preference and is completely to be ignored) your armour colour. But as for the skin, try basecoating it dark flesh. From this you get a good base colour to work on. From there apply thin layers of Tallarn flesh and make sure to keep the eyes and mouth very light, almost to a drybrushing standard. This helps to add depth and darkness to the model. If you still wish to make the model darker, as though it is an older model than say a grey hunter or blood claw, then apply a slight wash of ogryn flesh to represent the older space wolf's skin turning into a leathery hide form. Also try thinning down your paints. Maybe wiping a bit of the paint off before you appl it or a slight amount of water to th mix. Hope i helped!
Also just wanted to mention the godsave of my painting. The citadel washes. These add SO MUCH detail to the model its unreal. By simply washing fur with devlan mud or steel with badab black you can add so much shading and definition to the model without having to layer it. Just a small tip!

Also on a more fluffy note good job on Russ having that spear the emperor gave him modelled on. Plus hate to say it but Mjalnar was a frost sword

I have been using elf flesh for my skin and a gryphonne sepia for a wash over it

as far as the glossy look..............they are not very shiny in person......a little shine even though its a krylon matte finish but for some reason you hit them with lite and they glow and wash out

I know the figures are not perfect but I do believe some of the criticism has been a little harsh they are better painted than what the camera shows
