Sup everyone.

Has anyone seen Will Ferrells movie "Land of the Lost"?

I watched it the other night and thought it was friggin' hilarious. The lil monkey thing named Chaka made me laugh soo hard with some of the gak he did. And just the whole feel of the movie was fun and not serious. A great stoner movie.

Anyways I remember seeing bad reviews for this movie and people not liking it. I hate when that happens. Maybe people are too serious these days or don't have a sense of humour but I really liked this movie.

I am also a fan of the National Lampoon Vacation movies. These are the best, as well as Fletch 1 & 2, Caddyshack, anything with Rodney Dangerfield. Slap stick goofy stoner movies I love.

Does anyone else know some good movies like this. Or movies that have gotten bad reviews but are actually really funny. Please don't suggest Half baked or Dazed and confused or Cheeck and chong as I have already seen them a million times.

I also watched Harold and Kumar guantanamo bay for a 2nd time. 1st time i didn't like it and shut it off after like 20 mins, but this time I was with some friends drinking and smoking lots and was actually laughing alot. Interesting how mood and atmosphere can change your perceptions.

I watched Land of the lost, it wasn't that good. Stonner jokes aren't the best.

Comedy movies are much more subjective to opinion than most other kinds of movies.

I mean for movies like Horror, or Drama, or Sci-Fi, you can objectively dissect it, to see if it was a good movie or not.

For comedy... if it made you laugh, its good. If not, its bad. Its all about your own sense of humor.

Masked and Anonymous got horrible reviews despite being (IMO) a work of pure genius. I don't trust reviews

Elektra got decent reviews. hated it with a passion.

Reviews aren't really there to tell you personally whether to see a given work or not. It isn't a question of trust; they aren't asking to babysit your kid.

I wouldn't call a 10% on Rotten Tomatoes a decent score.

Evil Dead 2 got like 98% on Rotten Tomatoes and my wife hated it. But she's not one much for cult films

Personally if it looks neat I'll see it regardless of the reviews. However if I'm not going to see something and it randomly gets pretty solid reviews I might revise and go see it.

I always see Rotten Tomatoes ratings quoted, but the 'critics' score, is that complied from different reviews in magazines, papers etc?

I don't really like reviews that much to be honest, someone said comedy is down to your own sense of humour. Well all films are down to your own everything, you can look at any film (including comedy) and look at it from a production/academic view point, and say it was well made for what ever reason. But wether you like the film or not, isn't necessarily down to the production values.

Arthur (the recent one with Russell Brand), I love that film, but so many people think its rubbish. A lot of that hate comes from people who don't like Russell Brand, which while I can't agree with anyone who dislikes him, I can understand why they do. But although I haven't seen the original, Brand just seemed perfect for that role, and the scenes with him and Helen Mirren in are just brilliant.

Something like Avatar, which gets quite a bit of negative opinion is obviously just looked at in the wrong way. As a visual spectacle, its amazing. One of the most well put together films ever to be honest, but the story, characters etc are all so simple and hollywoodish, which is fair enough, its the first big 3D blockbuster, they want it to be a huge success and it was, they don't want to make some big complicated narrative. I just think in general, and maybe i'm wrong critics often look at films in the wrong way.

The only time I actually take notice of critics, is if they say something is brilliant, then I think its probably worth watching just to see why its brilliant. But if they say something is rubbish, its not going to put me off.

I find reviews can be good, much for whether they liked it or not, but what is actually said about the movie.

-"Wait a minute.....who is that Frazz is talking to in the gallery? Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

Critic reviews are always hit and miss, for me the last Transformers movie is a good example.

Critics blasted it for being juvenile, only focused on explosions, and only showing giant robots beating the gak out of each other with no real morals or lessons learned.

Guess what critics, I don't expect to walk away from every movie expecting a life altering experience. Sometimes I just want to see a hot chick and giant robots blowing gak up while shoveling popcorn in my face. Sometimes a movie doesn't need to go deeper than that.

The problem I have with reviews is that they can only inherently say whether the movie was good or bad, and what about it was good or bad. They can't tell whether someone would be interested in it or not. One example was a movie a few years ago - The King's Speech. I heard my friend say it was a brilliant movie, it had a great story and great acting. I told him that I gave two gaks about the movie because it's historical drama, something I just don't care about. The movie doesn't sound remotely interesting to me. So while the reviews might have given it all kinds of praise, it just doesn't interest me.

On the other hand, look at any Will Ferrell movie. Ferrell plays pretty much the same character in every movie he's in, and most of the comedy is pretty stupid. But the movies always crack me up, and I love going to see one of his films. I really don't put much stock in reviews for this reason.

Delgo is so much better than the reviews it got. It's really a solid adventure film harmed by some clumsy dialogue at times, but sets up a very cool world with a nice touch of political intrigue.

And for favorite stoner movie, The Evil Bong. I've yet to see the sequel but it's likely to be a Christmas present

Movies that I feel got underated but I find hilarious:

Super Troopers (You are trippin, man man man...)
The Cable Guy (Its the type of movie you either love or hate)
Bubba Hotep (The premise alone is enough for me)

There's also the opposite problem, where a movie gets all this praise and then I watch it and want to stab my eyes out:

Eyes Wide Shut
The English Patient
Lost in Translation
Kingdom of Heaven

Really? I remember it getting a 8/10 on something. Then again, I was like ten when that movie came out, so the details are foggy.

Yeah, I feel ya. That part about those dudes in the "101st airborne" (hurrdurr, military references. I'm michael bay and I think the 101st would have something to do with zooming through the sky like a flying squirrel) was just too much. Liked the rest of it, except the ending.

I find it particularly amusing that you list your criteria for liking a movie as altering your perception of reality. Don't get me wrong, I did enough of that when I was in my 20's and enjoyed a lot of movies, but I don't really like a lot of them nowadays. Sadly I just grew out of liking dick and fart jokes and find myself rolling my eyes whenever I see a preview for the latest.

Sadly I'm a filmmaker, which makes me a snob when it comes to movies. My favorite Will Ferrell film was Stranger than Fiction, I liked Punch Drunk Love with Adam Sandler, and I absolutely hated Grandma's Boy which everyone else in the world seemed to love. Oh well.

I don't think this movie got bad reviews. Maybe mediocre, but my current favorite film is the Fountain, by Darren Aronofsky.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.
