Well, I brought some miniatures for my brothers this weekend, and had intended to paint them up for Christmas presents.
A Space Marine Chaplain and a Necron Cryptek.
I was disappointed to say the least!
Some pics (sorry for quality, I quickly snapped them before taking them back):
Space Marine Chaplain
Necron Cryptek
I spoke to the staff and they recognise that they are having problems. I asked how long it will take GW to figure out their new plastic resin, they answered that it was a new technology created by GW.
I guess that answers that then!
The thing that upsets me is this: Thousands of kids will be getting GW presents from families this Christmas, my two brothers (5 and 7) included. How disappointed are they going to feel when they open a box full of holey plastic?
More disappointed than me I would bet. Now, where can I find some decent plastic character models?
(I should add that the Necron weapon sprue was fine. The Rod was a bit bent, but nice and sharp!)

Wow...I got a few finecast items today...and apart from a few small bubbles that I easily filled with liquid GS there was nothing wrong with them :/

Ehhh, not good. Going to be a lot of christmas presents being returned if this is common. Sucks to get defective xmas pressies, always causes embarrassment.
I'm sure sure it's a 'new technology' though. GW only have a couple of patents for technologies they've created, and anyway I thought the finecast has been done before.

Haha, totally. I will add that it wasn't till I took the pictures that I realised how bad they really were. I was emailing my Dad some pics to see what he thought.
I hope they get it sorted!

They are just as bad as the earliest miscasts which isn't much of an improvement.

I would have figured after 6 months they would have ironed out the kinks or make miscasts a rare phenomenon. I thought this would be especially true with the new necrons since some are new models/molds completely.

So exactly what part of spincasting resin is new technology and what part of this did GW actually invent? Spincasting has been around since before GW. Using resin in spincasting has been around as well. This is like Al Gore saying he invented the Internet. Both are funny to hear, but it still doesn't make it true. If this is the official story being pushed out by GW then things are far worse than we are believing they are.
Personally I believe that this is going to be the state of affairs for the EPIC FAILcast product line. GW will just raise the prices to cover the losses from shipping replacements and eventually the Al Gore network will get over it and move onto something else to complain about. It's sad because GW used to be a good company before the bank of scotland got involved.

The Orks are the pinnacle of creation. For them, the great struggle is won. They have evolved a society which knows no stress or angst. Who are we to judge them? We Eldar who have failed, or the Humans, on the road to ruin in their turn? And why? Because we sought answers to questions that an Ork wouldn't even bother to ask! We see a culture that is strong and despise it as crude.

If we ever see a decrease in price for metal, then I'm sure we'll see a 'super special edition 'Heavy Metal'' line of miniatures.
Disclaimer: Worglock, yes - that is a hyperbole.

When I said "I'm sure sure it's a 'new technology'", what I actually meant was "I'm NOT sure it's a 'new technology'" Hope my post makes a bit more sense in general now. Others appear to have used this technology, GW don't seem to be able to get it to work for them. OR they are putting such a high rate of production upon it that the quality control has to slide. Automatically Appended Next Post: infinite_array wrote:If we ever see a decrease in price for metal, then I'm sure we'll see a 'super special edition 'Heavy Metal'' line of miniatures. Actually I suggested it months ago, I think I said it would be called the "citadel vintage range", only for collectors naturally, and at a highly inflated rate.

Nah just same old finecast problems... with a twist! since the necrons were not made in metal first and the moulds adapted to resin... they are models casted and planned for resin

Well, the one Finecast model I bought was perfectly fine, so it's obvious to me that all these claims of miscasts are all made up and those pictures are photoshopped, and in any case, I can provide a hundred pictures of a perfectly cast model for every picture of an alleged miscast.

Honestly the Chaplain doesn't look that bad to me. Sure his feet are very bubbly, and crozius doesn't look so good, but otherwise the model looks fine. The only thing I can see on the jump pack is the flash on the top of the vents (which is excusable on plastic), and the bubble on the back (which would be covered up by his head). While I agree it seems like there are a lot of problems with finecast, these ones do not seem very heinous to me.

That's not the point. Just because we are capable of fixing these issues does not mean we should. GW pumped Failcast as the equivalent to the moon landing (their words) so we should expect 100% quality. Even the name itself, Finecast, is calling you out to find fault with the models they've set themselves up at the best in the industry and are failing to deliver.
If people keep accepting stuff like this it will continue to happen.
On a side note, I also cannot wait to see the amount of returns due to Failcast models being left too long under the Christmas lights...

Uh huh
Well you are entitled to your view, but for many people the casting quality is awful. Aero bar is an apt description.
