Well, the reason they switched from metal to resin instead of metal to plastic is because the machines to make plastic models are apparently quite, quite expensive, whereas resin casting methods are much cheaper.

Some people believe (hope?) that this Finecast stuff is just a stopgap, and that GW plans to switch everything to plastic at some point in the future. That'd be nice, but it sounds like a pipe dream to me.

Yah probably, also I think they can get better detail with finecast.

And making a unit people might not like plastic would be a risky.

Well at least GW has lowered prices and is both admitting and recognizing that this "new" finecast system is not perfect and fairly routinely puts out product that would not be acceptable at elevated prices.

LOL WUT?

GW has never lowered prices on an entire line of product because of its type in its history. proof please.

I've also never seen them renege on saying finecast is better than bread being invented.

I collect:

Grand alliance death (whole alliance)

Stormcast eternals

Slaves to Darkness - currently Nurgle but may expand to undivided.

So finecast is still poor quality and overly expensive.

Guess I'll continue to not buy Finecast products. I'm not sure there are very many Finecast models that can't be converted from existing plastics.

Finecast is ok if you buy it in store, unfortunately the people buying me presents aren't very good with Warhammer and won't know about the terrible quality, and I did really want a Firebelly...

And this is why I stick with Forgeworld for my resin goodness! While GW produces fantastic plastic kits, they really let themselves down with the character sets. I am genuinely surprised that the Necron set had flaws, I presumed that all the kinks had been worn out and that the newer kits, being made for resin would be better! It is a shame really, the models could really be something special if they got their act together.

It doesn't mean no defects will go out. Forgeworld still crank out miscast stuff and they've been at it for what, 10 years? Even smaller companies that crank out small quantities of 'collector' models put out miscast product. Someone here (I want to say Killkrazy, but I can't be sure) showed their Lt Kara Black that was all fethed up. Required heavy resculpting and replacing the gun barrel with brass rod.

If a small company that puts out a very limited run of a collector model still misses an extremely miscast product, in a run limited enough that they really can check each and every one of them (750 castings is tiny), GW putting out tens of thousands of models is going to ship out defects no matter how good QA is. It relies on people eyeballing the models and pulling them out, and human error occurs all the time. And with resin casting, miscasts happen more frequently.

(I love over priced venomthropes)

But foreal Can we please just stop the resin? Why not make GW take their customers serious for once? I say we freakin boycott them until they take us seriously. And If plastic is so expensive and resin is so cheap why does resin cost more than plastic?
I.E 5 raptors cost $45 where as 12 termagants cost $29

Little bit unfair gw.

Honestly boycotts half the time dont work half the time, mainly since GW is more concerned with new players than old

And the plastic/resin thing, plastic at first is expensive ($10,000 molds and wot not) but in the long run are less expensive (unless the oil industry collapses or something) than the other two (especially metal which is very finicky sometimes)

That would not be entirely correct, sir.
When GW had a St. Louis store, they once refused to exchange a miscast metal CSM lascannon for me because I did not buy it in the store and could not prove that I bought it directly from GW.

While I agree it seems like there are a lot of problems with finecast, these ones do not seem very heinous to me.

Seriously??! No wonder GW can push this crap when people just accept it. These are just the holes I can see.

When you spend good money on something it should not come with problems. That is the problem. You acknowledge that his feet are all covered with bubbles and that his crozius is all messed up but besides that hes fine????
FINE is one that does not require an hour or two to fix as well as the purchase of stuff to fix it. FINE quality miniatures do not arrive with missing parts and holes in them. I have not purchased any failcost due to the overwhelming number of problems associated with it and the increase in cost. I recomend that everyone who is tired of this, just stop buying as well.

BTW howard... you missed a spot or two. One right on the right shoulder...
