Seems like things may not go well for Bats. For those that missed it, this upcoming weekend before showings of the new Mission Impossible at IMAX will be the first 6 minutes of the film, like the did with The Dark Knight's Bank Robbery opening.

If it truly is Knightfall's story arc, wow. That's gonna be a tough sell considering most of the secondary characters which made Knightfall so epic aren't in the movie arc.
The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

I doubt it will actually have knightfalls story arc, just the breaking of the bat bit.
Knightfall inspired rather than knightfall: the movie.
It will have elements of Knightfall and No Man's Land it seems. Also, wasn't there a storyline (or more) with Ra's and Bane doing something together? Think there was a B:TAS episode with Talia and Bane.

I gotta say Anna Hathaway wouldnt have been my first choice as Catwoman so i'll be interested to see how she does. Tbh i'll be happy as long as they use the good Catwoman outfit and not that stiched up peice of gak Michelle Pfeiffer had.
I wonder how many people will turn up, pay their money for IMAX Mission Impossible tickets, then leave after the Batman trailer.
“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Why leave? I am looking forward to seeing Brad Bird's (Iron Giant, The Incredibles, Ratatouille) live action directorial debut.
Slarg232 wrote:Quite odd, considering it's called the Dark Knight Rises.
Not so odd becuase Nolan has made it clear this is the end of a closed trilogy and that he will not be doing anymore, and most of the core cast have said the same. The next Batman film after this will be a reboot, and designed to fit into a DC film Universe, like the Marvel films all take place in the same universe.

Every film in the series has been left to a very capable director, and each in their own way has been a really well made movie. I'm sure this will be another really slick, polished production.
It's just that pretty much every film in the series has been identical. I really liked a lot about the third movie, but somewhere in there where Tom Cruise went on a first mission that went wrong because of a set up, before having to get together a band of international spies he couldn't quite trust... I kind of felt like I'd seen it before.

MI:2 didn't have much in common with MI:1, or 3 for that matter.
Though, I will admit, all recall of MI:2 was Tom Cruise popping a stoppie and crotch rocket kicking a dude in the face.
Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh.
I really liked the original M:I and think it was a bit unappreciated at the time. Some of that came from Peter Graves not wanting to come back as Jim Phelps and having Jon Voight play the character seemed a bit off. Apparently one of the original plans was to have as much of the original cast in it and have them killed off at the beginning instead of the initial team as it goes down in the actual film, but none of the original actors wanted their characters to die. I agree that the following films seem to use the same framework but lessened the covert aspects and upped the action sequences. I think 2 was probably the weakest becuase it was John Woo at the point where he had practically become a parody of his own directorial style.

To be fair, most people said the same of Heath Ledger.
Thats true. After living off Nicholson's proformance as the joker in the old movie i wasn't expecting Ledger to be good. That being said i still prefer the Nicholson version but because they are such different portrayals of the same role i do enjoy both. It shouldnt be hard for Hathaway to blow Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer performances out of the water.

I think that is the goal, like Avengers, but I imagine that we will still have to sit through another origin. Green Lantern was supposed to be the first movie to be in the DC film universe, but I'm not sure about the upcoming Superman movie, which is also an origin film. Yee-ha.

Spy movies lost all their panache for me after I saw the eye watering hilarity of "The Transporter"
Once Jason Statham has deflected an armor piercing anti tank weapon warhead with a fething dinner plate you cant just go out and watch a different one.
And I wont even mention this bit as words alone cannot do it justice.

Quite odd, considering it's called the Dark Knight Rises.
Nolan said he was only gonna do 3 films.
So nolan's version of batman ends with this film and warner bros will reboot the franchise and hopefully not fail at life with it.
This is silly! Buttons are not how one escapes dungeons! I would smash the button and rain beatings liberally down on the wizard for playing such a trick!

SO that would be kind of reboot what #4?
Batman Tv series/movie reboot one. BAM! WHUMP! OW!
Keaton Batman reboot two (I'm assuming all the other batmans don't count as a reboot)
Nolan Batman reboot three
Quest for more money Batman reboot four?
Seriously?

The trappings for the action scenes change, but the plot beats are remarkably similar.

I like all three movies, in their own rights. In fact, I think the third film is probably the strongest in the series. It's just that I got a feeling watching it that I was seeing the same plot beats hit, in largely the same order, for the third time.
I'm not sure that Woo had become a parody of himself by that, in as much as he kind of always had been. It's sometimes kind of hard to figure out what makes movies really great, and that counts doubly with really indulgent, crazy films like Hard Boiled and The Killer. All the ridiculous and excess was in those movies, just as it was in his American movies... but suddenly the vibrancy had gone out of it. Don't know why.

I think 2 is the weakest, and will probably remain so, but I enjoyed them all as well.

I agree. Each film seemed to try to recreate the Langley infiltration, but they were starting to be more action oriented than covert as it went on. I think III had the best opening, starrting right out of the gate with them in mid mission to rescue the captured IMF agent.
sebster wrote:I'm not sure that Woo had become a parody of himself by that, in as much as he kind of always had been.
I didn't state that was when he started to be like that, but that he was in full effect. I think he was at the nadir of his slow mo dove releasing days. When it isn't doing those kind of rehashed moments it is much stronger. Plus, ya know, Anthony Hopkins.

I think it has to do with the difference between "hey, I got an idea that would be cool" and "well this was cool last time so it will be cool again this time". Like telling the same joke twice, it isn't as good the first time.
