I know that the songs don't do it for a lot of people in the general audience. My wife wasn't psyched by it.
But they sure do it for me. I love the songs, so this sent my metaphorical nerd chubby straight from six to twelve.

One of those nerds is me.
Im psyched about this. Gonna have to read all of the books again. Now lets see... theres a year till its realeased and theres 4 books plus all of 500 thousand appencies to read. That should be roughly enough time to read them all dont cha think?
If all my friends are giddy over this even the girl who is a friend of mine throws away all decency its pretty obvious we are all going to watch it... when it comes out. Thank god its going to be my senior year in high school haha.
Loved the trailer. And my brother lucky son of a gak was actually in new zealand when they filmed it and he applied for a job instead they gave him a tour and a free tour of weta and everything so we have some interesting pictures of the hobbit preproduction which I can't release until after the movie comes off. So thats 365 more days....

Well, I think I just had a nerdgasm. I loved the Hobbit so much more than the Lord of the Rings growing up. I watched that animated movie dozens of times when I was younger, and I've got the entire soundtrack on my iPod now.
Agh. If only it wasn't a full year away.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with this first look. A bit too much greenscreen work for my liking, but this is balanced out by the return of Gandalf the Grey, the look of the dwarf band and Martin Freeman looking more than comfortable in the part (I did worry he was miscast).
I will wait until part two then watch a double bill.
Its ok to split a trilogy, but splitting a single book leaves a gap that needs filling. I will wait until the gap can be bridged.
n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.
Although I think that building that Gandalf is walking through could easily be in Mirkwood.
Want to see, but I can wait.
You know the Necromancer is only vaguely mentioned in the book and it doesn't go into a lot of depth of what happened there other than he's powerful and dangerous.

I love the songs, too, but I'm not sure they do well with the same aesthetic as LotR. Tolkien wrote the books very differently. I hope that, and so far cannot judge whether, Jackson takes this into account with his movies.
