Hello, I've recently noticed the...lack....in blood angels blogs. Most every army has a general hub or website. And personally, the search system on dakkadakka is ridiculous ( still best war gaming forum tho).

So anyways, I thought us followers of sanguinius could have our own litte hub.

So drop a post, tell us about that battle you just had, fighting off the hordes of orks. Or maybe you found a trick for quick and easy death company. That army list you just made, post it and get feedback.

This way, all the blood angels can go into battle with powerful lists, the inside trick to beating that special army, and last of all, with a nice coat of paint on it!

I guess I can start:

Here is my list that I normally play and does pretty well too! (2000 pts)

-Hq: Astorath

-El: Sang Priest, Jump pack
-El: Sang Priest, Jump pack

-Tr: DC x10, 2 IP, Jump Packs. ( Goes with Astorath & 1 SP)
-Tr: DC x10, 2 IP, Jump Packs. ( Goes with 1 SP)
-Tr: DC Dread, Heavy Flamer ( Goes in SR)
-Tr: DC Dread, Heavy Flamer ( Goes in SR)
-Tr: Assult Squad, Melta (Goes in SR)
-Tr: Assult Squad, Melta (Goes in SR)

-HS: Stormraven, TL MM, TL LC
-HS: Stormraven, TL MM, TL LC

I'm probably a few points off, doing this from memory. Alot needs to be improved. I also got a lementes, the stormravens are magnetized so can change... Also Jump packs (on / off) on assult squads, and 1 DC squad.

Hello there!

I see you've a nice and focused DC army, with jump packs!

Well, I like the idea for your post, and while I have little battle experience to contribute, I do my research.

How do you find your DC heavy army works in 2000 points? Care to share your strategy seeing as you said yourself, you do fairly well?

Eager to hear about it

Also, as a thought.

What is everyone's favourite/most useful unit purchase?

Would be really helpful to use noobs looking to build an army.

So far my favorite purchase is my DC and Lemartes, however I cannot vouch for their usefulness because while they do, in the right circumstances, rip up massive hordes of boyz and the like, they have a high point cost (which is very limiting at lower points) and die just as easily as regular marines.

To address the problem with scoring units:

Well, half the DC lists I come across have 0 so 2 is quite unreal. Most objective games consist of you holding one, and your opponent holding one. So the 2 scoring units are for:

One: holding your own. Who would mess with a DC dread in a flying land raider??

2: second squad Is for capping 1 more objective, be it the only other one. The list is flexible. If you take out the priests, you have 150 pts for another squad wih packs. So you can have 3/5 objectives, be it a larger objective game.

The main idea of this list is to hold 1 or 2 objectives, and table them with my overpowered army ( which is done quite easily) or to contest the other objectives so you are 2/1 : 0

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And my favorite unit...hmmm... I'm going to say in general dreadnauguts. For new players, a dread with 2 blood talons is a force NOT to be reckoned with.

He blood talons are power weapons, that reroll to hit or wound ( suggest hit b/c dreads have insane str). AND when an unsaved wound is caused: you get an extra attack!

So mech lists for BA is one of if not he best kinda lists, our tanks are ALL fast, our dreadnauguts are unbeatable, and our land raiders fly! (Reffering to Stormravens)

Very expensive...

If you want SS take termies.

It's 305 points for an honour guard with PW and SS, and all in all it's just 5 marines, even if their 3+ is inv.

Chaos Space Marines, The Skull Guard: 4500pts

I've done the math on it, I'm a big fan of honour guard. They are basically point for point, a controllable DC with a few different abilities. I'm actually planning a list where I field both squads and see which ends up getting the more attention from the opposition.

and yes, the dreads are beautiful. One of the main reasons for picking the army.

Plus honour guard get a free s. Priest. And that can assist other units. I think they are underappreciated.

I don't have the codex on me at the moment but I thought DC get feel no pain and furious charge built into their special rules? Seems a bit wasted having Sanguinary Priests in the DC units. I'd put them in the assault squads or drop them both for a JP Librarian, chaplain, reclusiarch or lemartes, so both units of DC get reroll hit and wound.

DC Dread is nasty if you can get them in there, fleet really helps.

I like this list! Very cool, very fluffy and looks like it would be a blast to play. Makes me want to buy some DC to play around with.

I've been playing Blood Angels for a while now and thoroughly love the army. When I first started collecting, I just bought a whole bunch of stuff. And I mean a whole bunch.

I'm not so much of a power list gamer I just enjoy taking stuff I dig. Tomorrow I'll be playing a game with the "6th ed" rules and I'll be using a librarian dread for the first time.

Good to see we have some other fans of Death Company here as well. Regardless of viability, they are an iconic unit, and one I really enjoy having on the table.

I started Blood Angels because I wanted to play a fast-moving assault-focused army with an interesting vector of arrival. I also like to vary my lists with infantry and vehicles - I get bored of nothing but soldiers. I'm mostly a casual player, but my idea of fun includes "winning games" and "being good at what I do," so while I don't always go for the most optimal list, I want to create an effective list.

All in all, here's the list I play at 1500 points:

HQ

Librarian w/Jump Pack (Might of Heroes, Shield of Sanguinius)

Elites

5 Sanguinary Guard, 1 w/Power Fist, 1 w/Chapter Banner

1 Furioso Dreadnought w/Blood Fists (Heavy Flamer, Meltagun)

2 Sanguinary Priests w/Jump Packs

Troops

10 Assault Marines, 2 Meltaguns, Sergeant w/Power Fist

10 Assault Marines, 2 Meltaguns, Sergeant w/Power Fist

Fast Attack

1 Land Speeder w/Heavy Bolter, Typhoon Missile Launcher

1 Land Speeder w/Heavy Bolter, Typhoon Missile Launcher

Heavy Support

Stormraven w/Assault Cannons, Multi-Melta

As you can see, the idea is to air-drop everything into hiding, then charge out and assault ASAP. At higher point levels I am likely to add some combination of Mephiston or the Sanguinor, or a Death Company and Lemartes.

Pretty solid by the looks of it, I'm a big fan of having a small scoring unit of scouts to sit on those far off points and take pot shots at the enemy, so many time have a had a unit of assault marines sit on a point and be out of range for the entire game that I would rather free up some points and be able to shoot with the possibility of pinning (no matter how small) also camo cloaks and going to ground in cover is awesome.

If I get my hands on land speeders and a furioso, I will defiantly try this out, though, trying to add 1 more furioso might help...I'm just thinking...if I took out the land speeders, add 1 more furioso, I could put them in drop pods...ideas?

I see no point in the Stormraven, it seems like just an oddball thrown in the army, maybe switching that for 1 more sang guard, also with the extra points from these changes, you could have Dante instead of a Libby. This would make the list alot more in sync here is what I mean:

By adding drop pods, and sang guard, you now have : Dante, 2 Sang guard, 2 furioso in drop pods, 2 assult squads, and 2 sanguinary priests. This allows for a KILLER doa army. All units have doa, and all have jump packs, you have 4 scoring units, and all squads are strong, the furiosos are plain monsters, all BA dreads are, the sang guard are flying termies, and your assult marines have Anti tank, and feel no pain.

I think I know my next list...

The problem with drop pods is that damned "Drop Pod Assault" rule. The main weakness of DoA armies is that, should the dice decide to be cruel, your army will arrive piecemeal, letting a canny foe pick it apart as each element shows up unsupported. Drop Pod Assault makes that even worse, ensuring that half your drop pods will show up before anything else. The only way I've heard of to deal with that is to put a furioso librarian in one of the pods. That way you can drop it way the heck out of the way, then have it fly (with Wings of Sanguinius) into the battle whenever the rest of your army arrives.

Other than that... I just don't think drop pods are viable in DoA.

I'll be reading this one, as the IG parking lot is the one build that gives me the most fits. Thanks for this!

On a side note, I recently used a libby furioso for the first time and rather enjoyed it. With wings and might of heroes, he ended up shredding a land raider and holding a squad of marines in close combat until I could bring in reinforcements. Does anyone else have any stories on this unit?

I've used a drop pod in a couple of specific instances. One is for an alpha-strike melta unit, be it honour guard or sternguard. If scatter is generous, it's possible to hinder the enemy's flexibility early on. If not, its great as a distraction. I haven't used it in a while though, so someone else may have a better review of the tactic.

Another option is a frag cannon/heavy flamer furioso in a drop pod. This works wonders against armies that rely on cover. One of my friends that plays codex marines tends to run scouts as objective holders and I can usually wreak havoc on his ability to control objectives with this method and/or an outflanking/scouting naked flamestorm baal.

I have a couple of Blood Angels related questions.

Can they take scouts and if they can are they viable?

And can anyone point me to a good guide, or just some general pointers, on painting Blood Angels Marines, Death Company, The old Chaplain Lemartes model, and captain Tycho. And be really basic here, I have been away from Warhammer for around 10 years and I don't even know what paints I need to buy... lol

They can take scouts and honestly they are only good for objective holding. In a standard mech list I don't really see a need for them. Maybe in a Jump Pack list...maybe. I'd rather spend the points elsewhere to be honest.

Honestly your best bet on how to paint marines is following youtube guides. They really helped me out in painting my Assault Marines. I can't really help you with the special characters. I have no idea how I would even paint them myself.

DC have Furious charge and Feel No Pain.

However they also have rage, so they are not quite worth the per model cost.

They can be effective, but they are led away if you are not careful with them.
