Now I know that this will not happen for a very long time, if ever.
What could be a new race/army for 40k? It can't be related to any army already released. I for one can't think of one.
Anyone got any ideas?

Short miner dudes with beards who have a bone to pick with green skins......oh wait

I would like to see a race that is not that technical sort of steampunk feel but relies on constructs to assist them.

So imagine a xenos champion leading a squad of brass steam punkish robots, they then could have a sort of mega armour meets crisis suit type elite and heavy robots for tanks and stuffs.

This belongs in 40k discussion, not in general discussion.

There are marines, so make them evil...
Chaos Marines! Oh wait.
hmm
Eldar...Chaos Eldar!
Oh wait..we already have dark eldar.
Tau..Chaos Tau!

I got it! Chaos Tau!

Broadside obliterators with railguns/plasmacannon/fusion

Dreadnoughts with move/shoot/move.

Firewarriors with pulse rifle, pulse pistol close combat weapons.

......
Ok, so it wasn't the greatest of ideas.

Chaos Sisters of Battle? Lash of slaanesh + AP 1 flamers!

Customers ask me what army I play in 40k. Wrong Question. The only army I've never played is orks.

Knowing is half the battle. But it is only half. Execution...application...performance...now that is the other half.

Years ago, towards the beginning of 3rd edition, I created a race called the Sorul. They had human torsos with snake tails, and were heavily influenced by my love of the naga race from Legend of the Five Rings. I envisioned them as sort of anti-orks, a semi-tribal, semi-technological race, but more of a "good" race who could actually get along with other races. Their leaders were the shamanic Dream Warriors, and their primary racial weapon was the spear.

Their stats were similar to a kroot carnivore (4 str, 3 t, the opposite of an ork). Their ranged weapons were pulse pistols and rifles. Their vehicles were non-fast, non-open-topped skimmers. The weird part: this was before Codex: Tau was released.

I'm not sure if you mean "race" or "army/faction".

Adeptus Mechanicus.

It's absurd that they haven't been given at least some models and unit stats already whereas Blue Marines, Unplayable-Cloaked Marines, Wolf Marines, Black Marines, Red Marines, Silver Supermarines have their own codecies.

I think a Cool army that is not one described that I know of.

Would be an army of Small People (Not Dwarfs) Pixie sized (Tinkerbell)
They would Control Vehicles that would be the Units and have short Weaponry and shielding example

Shockers (The Standard Soldiers, Fairy in Mech Suits Maybe Dwarf Sized Models but walker styled (Almost like playing Warhammer Epic)
WS: 3 BS: 3 S: 2 T: 2 I: 3 W: 1 A: 1 Ld: 7 SV: 5+/6+
Wargear: Reflectors, Stunner, CCW

Stunner: Range 16" S: 3 AP: - Rapidfire
Twinlinked, when rolling to wound any roll of a 6 that causes a wound forces a Leadership Check (-1 Modifier per wound from 6's) If failed the enemy unit goes to ground

Reflectors: Provides a 6+ Cover Save, any Unit attempting to charge a unit with Reflectors must move as if moving through Difficult Terrain, The Unit with Reflectors may move before the Charge is moved up to 3"

Adeptus Mechanicus. Leaving aside AdMech units in exsiting Codices (such as Enginseers) there are plenty of ideas for units they could use right there in the fluff. How about the many different types of Skitarii for a start?

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.

Ever read the book Old Man's War? There is a similar race, only a couple of inches tall, that goes to war with humanity. Thing is, they are so small that even their vehicle-mounted weapons don't do much to an armored human. While their foot soldiers are susceptible to stomping.

English Assassin only last week wrote:Warhammer 40,000 is not a very granular system; the real difficulty to introducing a new army would lie not in dreaming up fluff, but in designing something sufficiently distinct on the tabletop from what already exists.

Moreover, Games Workshop have always drawn their ideas from classic sci-fi tropes (or put classic fantasy tropes into space); I can't really think of anything which could easily be made to fit the setting that they haven't already used.

+1 for admech

Or take one of the armies that was shoved into a codex with another and split them up again( Catachans is a good example of this but not the only one).

What about making an "Old Ones" army?
I mean I know GW hates advancing plots, but it'd be pretty cool right?

No it wouldn't.

1. All the "real" old ones are dead

2. Technically, the Eldar already fit that niche as they are their closest creations.

3.

But for my own input:

+3 for Admech. Sooooo much promise.

Otherwise, 40k has all bases covered. I wouldnt mind seeing a race that has no ranged weapons what so ever but is an absolute beast in melee.

I always wanted them to add a zombie game mode too.
