The medal ceremony at a Kuwaiti shooting event provoked bemusement and red faces when the wrong anthem was played to Kazakh gold medallist Maria Dmitrienko.
Following a mix up with an internet download, the winner had to listen to a spoof anthem written for the film Borat.
Video courtesy Kuwait Sport 2
Automatically Appended Next Post: For those of you that cant watch the video, the lyrics to the anthem they played whilst the athlete stood with her hand on her heart are as follows.
Kazakhstan greatest country in the world.
All other countries are run by little girls.
Kazakhstan number one exporter of potassium.
Other countries have inferior potassium.
Kazakhstan home of Tinshein swimming pool.
It’s length thirty meter and width six meter.
Filtration system a marvel to behold.
It remove 80 percent of human solid waste.
Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan you very nice place.
From Plains of Tarashek to Northern fence of Jewtown.
Kazakhstan friend of all except Uzbekistan.
They very nosey people with bone in their brain.
Kazakhstan industry best in world.
We invented toffee and trouser belt.
Kazakhstan’s prostitutes cleanest in the region.
Except of course for Turkmenistan’s.
Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan you very nice place.
From Plains of Tarashek to Norther fence of Jewtown.
Come grasp the mighty penis of our leader.
From junction with the testes to tip of its face!

We are arming Syrian rebels who support ISIS, who is fighting Iran, who is fighting Iraq who we also support against ISIS, while fighting Kurds who we support while they are fighting Syrian rebels.

I imagine she figured it out pretty quickly while standing on the podium, but I wonder if she was able to keep a straight face becuase of some of the lyrics or if she was to angry to notice. We need video!

I think I found a thread where I agree with GeneralGrog. Hearing about the story was funny. Watching the video was really sad.

Hitting someone in the face with a monkey wrench in real life isn't all that funny either, but the Three Stooges made a living off making people laugh at it. A great amount of humour is based in sadness, sorrow, or tragedy. I feel empathy for her, in that it was a tough spot to be and and she handled it well, but it is also still really funny at the same time.

I've read that (and largely agree with) all humor is essentially based on pain or discomfort. IIRC the first place I read that was in Stranger in a Strange Land, and there's a lot of validity to that.
Someone getting hit in the face with a wrench in the Three Stooges is a bit different than someone getting hit in the face with a wrench IRL.

I can't tell if you are just reiterating my point because it was so nice it should be said twice or becuase you think that someone how I said they were the same thing. Of course they aren't the same thing, just as seeing a person on stage having the wrong national anthem played is different then being the person onstage that is having the wrong national anthem played for them. Youtube has made its livelihood based on it being funny that other people get hit in the groin, not you getting hit in the groin. The difference between tragedy and humor is quite often distance.

"Tragedy is when I stub my toe. Comedy is when you fall down a manhole and die."
No, I get that. To some extent my first post was also based on the same idea. In the abstract, I found it funny. Seeing her face, it wasn't really funny to me anymore.
I didn't get that exact same idea from your Three Stooges reference. In The Three Stooges everyone involved is a consenting participant in staged humor, so I can't really equate that to this or other "slice of real life suffering" humor clips. Maybe it's just another level of distance, but for me the difference feels more qualitative.

See, Im bemused by these comments, and mediums as well.
Its only a national anthem and a mistake. If I was getting a medal and instead of playing the British national anthem they played a wrong version of it, say the Sex Pistols version of God Save the Queen, I would laugh my ass off.
Kick off?! Surely not.. I'm pretty sure that if I was in her shoes I would find it most amusing and laugh my tits off on the podium, I agree that not everyone has the same sense of humour, but I reckon you are in a large minority if you would take great offence to what happened.

Interesting. How would you feel if we replaced God Save The Queen with, say, Feth You Uncle Fether from the Southpark movie?

I personally wouldn't kick off, however I am not a competitive athlete. I would have thought somebody who had worked hard to get to that position would be slightly more inclined to after having their 'moment' diminished.
For example, if they play Benny Hill for the British National Anthem at the upcoming Olympics I won't be offended. Although they won't do that because of all the money that has went into it. Clearly it will be the pinnacle of all sporting events. This is another story however.

If the Sex Pistols version was played instead I think I would be singing even harder as well as dancing.
Bruins fan till the end.
Never assume anything, it will only make an ass of you and me.
