Hi all
I started a dark eldar army a few months back, but, i didn't get started untill about a week ago
my army is based around a piece of background in the codex:
In 995.M41 the Kabal of the Wraithkind, along with the Cult of the Flayed Hand, saved the Craftworld of Iyanden when it was about to be overrun by Waaagh! Rekkfist. Iyanden, unable to stop the invasion before it reached the surface of their Craftworld, was forced to awaken even more Wraith-constructs in order to hold back the invasion. As events become desperate, a Webway portal at the rear of the Craftworld activated and members of the Kabal of the Wraithkind and the Cult of the Flayed Hand emerged to aid in slaying the Orks. After saving Iyanden, the Dark Eldar were questioned by Iyanden's Council of Seers as to why they intervened, and they replied simply that they gain extreme entertainment from watching Iyanden's angst-ridden use of necromancy.

my army is based around this alliance of the wraithkind and cult of the flayed hand

Tell me what you think C&C is welcome

Woah man, wicked! These are some seriously sinister looking Dark eldar! Love your choice of color placements, and that skin-like colour you used on the clothes. The symbol on the helm's look great too, I'm in love!

I'll be keeping an eye on this, there looking great, I want to see more! Keep it up man

Love everything but the Succubus. He looks a bit... well, boring.
If you want to make it out of plastic, a Wych body on Scourge legs is awesome.

That's not a bad idea I hadn't thought of that I will probs end up making a another version with different upgrades from spare bits later on...

About the scheme on the succubis, the wrathbone would make her stand out. I'm not familiar with the "roles" they play in dark eldar, but doing a lighter color would definatly add some "command" value to it. I'd suggest having a darker color under the bone, make it look tainted. Maybe work your way up from a dark purple or blue to the bone color. It'd also help tie them in with the rest, although secondary colors can do that easy.

From past experiances a purple/dark blue to bone might be hard to do, as even a little purple mixed into bone gives it a more pink hue. If you wanted to take this route, I'd suggest trying a purple/dark blue undercoat, a layer of the color mixed with bone, then try to cut out the purple/blue and use watered down/thin layers to build up to the main color, leaving the dark in the recesses and whatnot. Might sound difficult, but I think it'd be worth trying out. Nothing is impossible with a little patience and determination!

I like blap's conversion idea for a succubus, and as you said with the bitz, conversions only get better as it goes on! Your model has a dark/sinister look to it, maybe a bit boring to dark eldar standards, but it definatly still works. maybe angeling her arm with the pistol out a bit more would add a bit more dynamics to her? Not to sure.

Either way man, its your army, enjoy it, make it the way you see fit, add your personality to it. This will show through greater than any "trying" to do good, and you'll enjoy the process of it more! Also, sorry about this essay, just saying my thoughts, hope you don't mind.

Dude no probs about the essay all it does is help me
That's an interesting idea using a blue/dark purple basecoat for the wraithbone I shall investagate...
I am planning on doing the standard amour in Dheneb stone then a few washes of Gryphonne sepia than mixing in bleached bone until it looks good no idea on the rest of the suite though...

I think the yellow works really well with the blue and it makes your warriors pop, so you should find another place to use it on your models, since the archon is lacking something to contrast his dark colors. If you look around your models, all dark eldar have at least one little orb on their body armor (you've painted this yellow on your warriors), and a lot of them have runes on their armplates, these would be good places to paint yellow. Good luck with your real space raids fellow dark kin!

I did an experiment yesterday for the weapon on my archon i decided a gem stone would be good

so after trawling through pictures of gem stones I decided on an amethyst.

here is my first attempt on painting it i just used some spare plastic biyz stuck on a base wil put up later how i did it after i have high lighted it.

what do you think?

Ok so i have realised the major advantage of the hols is that i can get more hobby done

i have recently got distracted by some wyches originally I wanted to paint them white sort of a clinical colour but then as i started painting them the spawned in to something different...

non of this is finished yet but please tell me what you think. the raiders amour has been highlighted though it may need one more highlight.

also i don't know what colour to paint the wych suits i was thinking a dark green or purple what do you think?

Very nice work mate, where'd that spear come from that you have for your archon?

Why not use the colour you've done your warriors in as the body suit colour on the wyches? I noticed that you've painted the wyches armour in the colour as the loin cloths on your warriors, so why not follow that and tie them in together by reversing the dominant colours? Would represent the fact that the Kabal and Cult work closely together. Well, closesly for dark eldar that is!

Great idea kitch102 I hadn't thought of that

The spear is made form the impaler in the wych box set and the other end is a saurs warrior's I am planning on painting it with a black marble handle and amythest tips what do you think?

Difficult to pull of but will definitely be worth it!

I'd love to see that, along with a tutorial

As suggested by kitch102 (thank you btw) this is a test model of the wych suite (the same as the amour on the kabalites)

tell me what you think this is obviously a WIP i am planning on the weapons be in a simplified amethyst?
ironically i found this on the GW website
The Wraithkind
Once the rulers of the pleasure city Aur-Ilithain, the Wraithkind were extremely powerful until their Archon, the Daemon-courting monomaniac Lord Tliensic D'raque, attempted to close his dark paradise off from Commorragh. By destroying the single hyperspatial bridge that led from the heart of the Dark City to the Cyclops Gate of Aur-Ilithain, D'raque announced his intention to secede from Vect's rule. The very next night six secret portals suddenly opened across Aur-Ilithain, and thousands of shadow-creatures spiralled through, chanting in an eldritch tongue. Before the next dawn, Vect's ethereal allies had plunged the pleasure city and its denizens into a half-real state slightly out of phase with the rest of the webway. The Wraithkind were forever altered, changed into night-shrouded fiends that can only feed when they step out of the webway into the material dimension. When they do so, the venting of their frustrations upon the lesser races is shocking to behold.

basically the wraithkind were rich...

so i think those shiny weapons could have been the terms of the alliance

I'll refrain from saying I think the body suit and armour looks cool as feth - may come across as a bit biased

How'd you fancy adding some yellow to the hair and other spot areas and then reposting the picture? The yellow of the pistol kind of draws the eye away from the mini. Maybe the hair and the spikes on the left boot?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Maybe alter the flesh tones a little too, it's very similar to the armour, and the right glove could be done in the same colour as the body suit; doing so will keep the bone coloured armour on the right hand side, and add a little "weight" to the model, drawing the eye closer in that direction, where there's more to look at

biased me no....

like i said its a WIP but in any case it was a bit of a test with the yellow as it is quite similar to the amour
so i might put it as a purple as well as that will help with what i thought up up there ^
as for the skin it is off for highlighting as we speak

Really nice dude, my advice (whether or not you want to listen is up to you ) would be to paint the skin much paler on the wyches.. Atm it looks too similar to the armor. Maybe go for dheneb stone (or the new alternative) and a badab black wash?

Hey all! sorry i have been away for a while..
i have been doing work for my exams...

ok well recently I have been working on some scourges got to be said that they are great models
the main aim with these is that the bases are good as I have found that many people don't have as cooler bases as they deserve...

So far I have only done this one which is almost finished.
i have another two which are almost finished so i will put some pics of them up tomorrow

as ever tell me what you think

Really beautiful base, though my favourite part of the model is the work you put in to the vials on his back. Simply stunning.

while the one on the lamp post will have a shard carbine and feathers wings

Thoughts as ever.
