Subject: The Contamination Corner - A Blog for the Dark gods! [Apr11: Progress on scratchbuilt dread]
Hello, and welcome to my blog! Here you will find all things chaos as I work on them, from daemons to traitor guard to space marines of the chaotic type! Almost everything you see here is going to have some sort of conversion on it, and I strive to be a good painter, so I hope you enjoy what you see!
First some of my background for those who interested...
Spoiler:
I've been playing 40k since the end of 3rd edition, when i started collecting Tau (now in my bitz box). After 4th came out I started painting up an "old school" ultramarine army and played those for awhile (been repainted n sitting in my bitz boxes since). Then I discovered Kroot mercinaries and went to town with them, but the army has since been sold. I built a tyranid big bug army using alot of oop models, but they've been re primered and sitting patiently for my return. I built a necron army converted from tomb kings (and a hell of alot of green rods!) but have sold those off too.
Then, in the depths of 4th edition, I met papa nurgle. He took me into his loving arms like a lost abandoned child and I spent the next year trying out greenstuff and scratch building and eventually massed up over 3000 points of nurgle devoted marines, and a plague tower. I started falling out of the hobby after this, and a year and a half later, me and a friend who used to play have been throwing it down and getting me back into the hobby.
Now, I've always been into the modelling/hobby side of this hobby than the playing, and since getting back into the game I've decided I'm bored of the Nurgle play style, so to change things up I started a nurgle daemon army converted from fantasy ogres. Bad idea, as I slowly burned out from all the greenstuffing I needed to do, but happened across around $600 of Chaos marines for $100. This brings us to now.
I've been getting back into the hobby over the last few months, and as I've had stedy progress I decided to throw together this log. I've built the bezerkers and started on the thousand sons, so you will surely be seeing them shortly.

Chaos Space Marines Fabious Bile - WIP / Completed Bezerkers - WIP12 / Completed Thousand Sons - WIP1 / Completed Bile Marines - WIP / Completed Obliterators - WIP / Completed Dreadnought - WIP12345 / Completed
I'm going to be starting this blog with making a "Fabius Bile & friends" army, using my old space marine army (test subjects!) and some chaos marines I got for a bargin. I'll also be working on my nurgle daemons but not with as much dedication; the Csm are going to be the main focus (for now... ).
I'm always open to criticism n comments, so please leave your thoughts behind, and if you don't, well, I'm sure I can work something out with the mighty Gods of chaos....

So to kick things off, charging out of the gates with bloodbound fury, the Khorne Bezerkers! I'd ask you to cheer for 'em, but you'd probably need your head to do that. Whoops.
Anyways, these are the first I've worked on for my new army. I got a bunch of catachan models in the Chaos box I bought so I let the blood god have his way and next thing I knew they were all armless! What a joy! I proceded to chopping up the bezerkers I had found in the box and giving them their newly earned arms. I wanted a more savage/feral look to these guys, and also thought the fantasy Ogre gut plates I have lying around from my nurgle daemon project would make cool shields for them once they were painted up. Here's the pics:

Skull Champ
Bezerkers
I'm happy with how they're turning out, I still have to give some of them holstered bolt pistols and some skulls scattered around, but otherwise I think they're done. However, they are not primed yet, so throw in your thoughts, I'm always looking for ways to improve!
From here I'm working on my thousand sons, got the nine built already, just have to add some more details and decide what I'm going to do for the guns. Expect pictures soon (*after some hopefull feedback on the Zerks) and I'll also try to get a test Zerker painted up, probably the guy with his weapons 'laxed and enjoying life as a zerker.
Glad to see another player starting Chaos, it is a fun army to play, I recently added up all my points and found i have undershot my 3k estimate, closer 3.5k. Currently your zerker with the sheild is my favorite of the squad where did you get the shield from?
Charlies well spent Paycheck
I apologize in advance for sounding rude, I don't mean to sound that way

Hey thanks for the comment! I'm not exactly "starting chaos" persay, as I've played since the "3.5" codex and in Lost and the Damned, Although this is going to be my first time making anything chaos that's not nurgle!
The "shield" is from the fantasy Ogre kingdom bulls, the gut plates they have. All the bezerkers have them except the plasma guys, I guess they just try to blind the enemies with the superglow comming from them???
Managed to get a test guy painted today too, just gotta snap a pic and finish up my post. Stay tuned!

Howdy! So I woke up today to the smell of primer, and discovered that the bezerkers must have gotten into the drawer I keep my primer in!
After some disciplining, I decided to take advantage of such an oppertunity, and spent the day painting up a test model. Im really happy with how he turned out, however if you have any ideas how to improve him, or if you happen to like it too, please let me know! There's a reply button for a reason!
Anywho, I took some pics of him. Sun's gone down and I had some trouble with the white balance of the pics, but they get the point across. I'll try taking some more tomorrow in daylight and if they're better I'll replace these ones. Here they are:
Front
Back
The shield
Now I'm going to work on painting up the rest of the squad and continue building my thousand son's squad. I ordered in a Fabius Bile backpack and will start building him once that comes in, and I also have some plasticard on the way, which will help build my dreadnought and most likely the Obliterators. I'll keep you guy's updated so stay tuned!
I've been building some marines that will be my "thousand sons" over the last few weeks, and thought it's time to give you guys a progress shot.
I'm liking these guys so far, but really open to suggestions at this point. They're made from CSM and tomb king parts mainly. There were 5 or so thousand son models in the box I bought so used those bodies too. Here's some pics:
Group shot
The Sorcerer
A Csm body, with a terminator leg for some extra pizaz! The head piece is a part from a tomb king chariot cut up and glued to the torso, the weapon is a bloodletter sword. I plan on adding some ropes to his robe, and his free hand is going to be casting some spell or whatnot, but he's near completion!
"Detail" added to the back
Two Tsons, these guys are 'changing' the dead into living animations! muhahaha. Should come together good when painted, the skeletons should look like their raising out of the ground
And this is the gun I'm thinking of using, using the bit from the tank sprue. Not sure if I'm going to use it, as I don't have enough bitz and having trouble trying to... duplicate it. I'm open to ideas on what to do for the guns, I'm looking for something different!
Gunna keep on working on these guys, and start my Fabius Bile conversion this week, while trying to get my bezerkers completed. Stay tuned, they'll be updates!!
Hey guys, just a quick update today, as I managed to get some better pics of that test bezerker. Still pretty happy with how he turned out, I think I'm going to tone down the grey on the fur... stuff? hanging from his chainsword. Not sure if I just want to gloss the eyes black, but can't really think of a good color that'd fit nicely. Thoughts?
I also ordered in some plasticard, and it arrived today. First time using this stuff, I'm going to be building a dreadnought with it and I'm thinking a spawn model, going to start messing around with it soon.
Now just waiting for the Bile backpack from Gw. I cant wait to get started on him. Going to be painting up the bezerkers this week and start messing around with the dreadnought. Take it easy!
By the way, If anyone is interested in my nurgle daemons (converted from fantasy ogres) I have a couple pics up in my gallery. They won't be here for awhile, as I want to get this Csm army out of the way first. Peace!
@ Tinfoil - Thanks man, appreciate it! I really like how the shield turned out, a simple, but effective touch! I love your work (been a lurker here for long time) and think your going to like this next project!
Onto said project, my dreadnought. This is for a Fabius Bile army and I wanted some crazy, patched up, half-"man"-half-machine sorta nut-job. I got some plasticard in the other day and this is going to be my first time using it, seams very simular to thin cardboard I've used before.
So here is the rough mockup from last nights brainstorming. This legs are going to be skin with heavy almost bionics built into them near the feet. Going to work on the arms after I have him standing up. Like I said very rough stage, there will be lots of greenstuff and detail added this next week, stay tuned!
If ya got any suggestions/tips/whatever nows the time to let 'em fly!
Hey everyone, another update on the dreadnought. Got some work done last night and wanted to let you guys see the steps that go into making him.
I decided to face him the other way, liked how he was stepping on the marine more. The legs started off as pieces of sprue and guitar wire, and covered in greenstuff. I tried to make the skin look "stitched" to fit into the bile theme, and had the stitching come loose at parts to show the mechanical innards. The red wires by the legs are going to end up looking like pistons built into his legs, and all the wireing are going to get "caps" wherever they enter.
In the gap on his back I thought I was going to make it all skin, but now I'm thinking of putting some kind of power generator there. Going to start throwing that together, finish the legs and start some body work, then move onto the arms. I'm pretty happy with how this is turning out so far, let me know what you think!
A hell of alot better than steppin' on a landmine if ya ask me.
And a scale shot
Remember he is still in his 'birthing' stage, I only had a vague idea of what I wanted when I started it! Lots more attention is going to be given to details. Hoping to get the lower half finished tonight, expect an update sometime tomorrow!
Ps: I know thats a loyalist marine, but fear not! He is one of fabius' test subjects. We're expecting to see results any day now....
Hey, just a quick update on the dread. Progress is slower than I wanted, but he's getting there. I've worked on the stitching for the front, and added greenstuff to help blend the wires into the skin. Next I'm going to build the power pack in the empty space on his back, and start working on the skin back there. Started a head but don't want to finish it untill I get his arms on, to help with posing. Anyways, here's the pics:
front
Closer...
And the back (hardly worked on)
So he's getting there, from the pics I see I have to go back and file down some of the greenstuff. Really happy with how he's turning out so far, let me know what you think!
Hey everybody, just a quick update today. I started thinking about what to do for the arms, wasn't sure if I wanted to a sorta 'typical' dreadnought arms or some kind of shoulderpads, so I test fitted some old dreadnought arms on him.
Test fit.
I liked how they scaled up so got to work on the close combat arm:
Still in its early stages, but I'm happy with how the armor piece came out. It's made from bitz of sprue cut up and plasticard for the armored shell. going to do the same thing to the fingers that I did to the feet, and greenstuff the plate to make it reach all the way around into a sort of glove. Here's it glued on to the dread just to see how it'll fit:
Blurry pics, I apologize, but not much to see yet. I'm happy with how it's looking, so I'm going to start the greenstuffing. The skin is going to have the whole mechanics with skin sewn ontop of it look I have going on, and the first will be sort of like a glove fitting into it. Lots of wires and fiddly work ahead!
Ahead... hmmm... A... head... yes! talking about heads, I have a rough mockup of the head I'm going to try first. Still very early, its got a space marine backpack vent for a mouth and some targeting bit for an eye. Still got to add lots of wire and whatnot, planning on finishing the arm before finalizing the position of the head and whatnot. Anyways, here it is so far:
So yeah, I'm really happy with how this projects comming along. I might paint up some bezerkers for a break, but every time I say that I end up working on this guy more, I'm just liking it too much! Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it! Till then, take care!
Got some more work done on the dread. Taking alot of time on him but he's finally comming together, and I'm liking it. I'll let the pics do the talking:
Overview
CCW arm
Work on head started
Wiring
Skeleton of Melta arm
Still to do on this guy
-Greenstuffing neck area & adding more wires to head
-More wires on CCW arm, add heavy flamer
-The Melta arm
-Make some sorta "power pack" for the back
-Fill out back with greenstuff
-Armor trims and rivits
-Finish up details like, stretched faces on shin guards, make feet wires look like pistons
So not quite there, but gettig closer. hoping to be done up to riviting and small details by end of the weekend/early next week. Let me know what ya think!
