One thing I am somewhat suprised about is just how few finished Tervigons/Tyrannofexs I have seen on the different forums around the web so I figured I would throw my hat into the ring. So here she is!

And for people wondering just how big this thing is I also took a pic of my converted Tervigon (built based on a Carnifex kit but still on the large oval base) standing beside GWs Tervigon:

No, that is the base the Trygon comes on. I only used it because all 6 wound MCs should be on the large base

That's rather nice, and strangely in the same scheme I used painting the Bournemouth store army. It works very effectively on the jungle bases we used, and these look nice as well.

Wow she's a beauty! I love your texture work. Excellent color combo too. I picked up one of these kits and I made the tyrannofex. After looking at this beast I'm kicking myself now!

I imagine getting that textured look is quite a chore.

I really like what you've done with the bases. Great work! The models also look really nice, with the streaked carapaces and such.

The only thing that jumped out at me (and this is just a personal taste thing) is there's no slimy look, no horrible ichor, no dripping ooze. As I said, it's probably just a personal preference thing - your models look fantastic!

Fantastic. I love the effect on the carapace, especially around the spine cysts on its back. I also like the shade of green on the birthing sacks.

TheCyben: Seriously though, I'm not advocating GW to model any Boosh characters. If they have to pick one, it would have to be Tony Harrisson... but that would be an outrage.

I was going to finish the turtorial by now but this guy got in the way lol. Now that she is done my next order of business is finishing my Ymgarls and finishing the tutorial. Only crappy thing is now that GW has completely redone their paint range all the paints i used to paint this army (around 4500pts worth) are now no longer being made, so I will have to figure out the conversions for the new paint range. Second time this has happened to me with a Tyranid army lol.

Did you base with the new texture paints? If not, what did you use? Doesn't look like normal sand...

Great mini by the way

I love how all three of your main sections all have great depth. Sometimes you see a lot depth on the carapace but less on the limbs or vice versa.

Actually, for the sand on the base its actually a coarse Pumice. The original sand I used for the majority of the bases was discontinued by GW so I have been trying to find a substitute for it. Not 100% happy with it yet as it looks too un-even (not in a good way) for my liking. And if I am to be honest the base on the Tervigon is just a place holder till I can get something I am really happy with on him (I threw that together in under 5 mins).

i understand this is an old thread, but I would really like to know the paint recipe for the purple and flesh. Or if anyone can take a shot at figuring it out. The best I can think of is to use Xerxes purple and layer it up to a bone white before washing it with the new leviathan ink, as for the flesh it looks like a brown base layered up with a mix of bleached bone, a red and a grey.

Crazy, I almost never check Dakka Dakka anymore and the one time in the last month I do someone Necros one of my old Tyranid Threads lol.

Anyways, the painting of the flesh and carapace is much easier then you are making it out to be (sort of). My style of painting for this army is all about starting with very dark colours and working your way up to the highest high light. I didnt use any inks at all for this army other then a small amount of green wash in the neon green sections just to help add a bit of depth and to smooth out the green high lighting on the birth sack. Anyways, these are the colours I used to paint this army (everything done in a "streaking" or "feathering" technique):

Purple
- Black undercoat
- Streak on leviathan purple painting about 90% coverage starting at where the chintin meets and working your way outwards (use Naggaroth Night if you go from the current range)
- Streak on leviathan purple/pure white in an 70/30 ratio painting about 75% coverage
- Streak on leviathan purple/pure white in an 50/50 ratio painting about a 50% coverage
- Streak on leviathan purple/pure white in a 30/70 ratio painting about a 25% coverage

Flesh
- Black undercoat
- Full dry brush of scorched brown (Rhinox Hide for current range)
- Full dry brush of beastial brown (Skrag Brown for current range)
- Streak on tallarn flesh (maybe Deathclaw Brown? or Ratskin Flesh)

You can check out more of my army here:

Here is a painting guide on how to paint my army (stealers):

Hope that helps!
