Just the ones that would think promoting May Day* would be helpful to their cause. Apparently this is coming out of Occupy L.A., which is a bit surprising because usually one wouldn't associate such lefty things with California.
*I'm guessing this is the Communist holiday version of May Day and not the Pagan one, not that either has much traction here.

That's a Tuesday. Who fake calls in sick on a Tuesday?
Monday makes sense; you need to take the day to recover from the weekend.
Friday also makes sense. Who doesn't want to start the partying early.
Wednesday makes sense. You sometimes need a break right in the middle of the week.

I think the occupy movement could be onto something here, If they can get the numbers to accomplish a mass protest like this.
considering the 1st is a common day for people to get pay checks, and its also the day most people pay rent/mortgages. Now if a large part of the population doesn't deposit their checks in the bank, nor pay they mortgages to the banks. that could really send the banks into a panic.
People have done similar protests on a smaller scale against gas stations to get the prices back down.
I still don't understand what the occupy movement is protesting against. The 99% slogan was poignant, but most of the other rhetoric seems to be anti-police, anti-government, and anti-corporate. Standing up against the massive wealth inequality we have here in the States is a noble cause in my book, but to me their actions don't seem to match this goal.
With the system we have, the best way to ensure a more even wealth distribution would be to encourage more competition in the marketplace, and make it easier for small businesses to find a place within the market. Encouraging people to do things that interrupt business is actually harmful to "the cause," because small businesses are impacted more by interruptions than larger corporations.

So no, I will not be taking off May 1st.
they're protesting banks that are to big to fail, are not allowed to fail. the bankers bought our politicians so they can deregulate themselves, so no one was watching what they were doing. So to save these banks, they give them trillions of dollars, yet no one gets arrested, and no new regulations are put in place to keep it from happening again.
so the banks are still free to start a new housing bubble, wait for it to collapse, and get another huge bail out from the tax payers.
These banks that got bail outs need to get broken up into many smaller banks that can fail, or succeed based on their business practices.
Hey I got an Idea, lets all be lemmings and not think for ourselves and take May 1 off...........

Ah, nevermind then. In France it's the first of May.

I agree. I also agree we need to start the first annual "Cossack Day." We're just going to ride horses forward and swing these metal things. If you get in the way, well thats your fault...

Quite a few banks have failed. The Euro banks are on life support. If you want fun filled Great Depression antics, let them all fail. It will be fun. Of course, this time the US keeps what it kills. Lets do it right though. The President changes his title to Praetor, and has to wear purple robes and golden oak leaves. It will be a gas!

But, Tuesday and Thursday makes no sense at all.
Tue and thur make sense if you can make it into a 4 day weekend.
