I'm taking May 1st off just to join in the Occupy movement.
Well, I'm not working between midnight and 7 AM and then again from 7 PM until midnight.

considering the 1st is a common day for people to get pay checks, and its also the day most people pay rent/mortgages. Now if a large part of the population doesn't deposit their checks in the bank, nor pay they mortgages to the banks. that could really send the banks into a panic.
People have done similar protests on a smaller scale against gas stations to get the prices back down.
Who on earth still gets paid by cheque?

I came into work, less because I need to do actual work (it's the beginning of our monthly reporting period), but because I'm helping to plan an office tres de mayo taco bar party.

Standing up against the massive wealth inequality we have here in the States is a noble cause in my book, but to me their actions don't seem to match this goal.
With the system we have, the best way to ensure a more even wealth distribution would be to encourage more competition in the marketplace, and make it easier for small businesses to find a place within the market. Encouraging people to do things that interrupt business is actually harmful to "the cause," because small businesses are impacted more by interruptions than larger corporations.
So no, I will not be taking off May 1st.
they're protesting banks that are to big to fail, are not allowed to fail. the bankers bought our politicians so they can deregulate themselves, so no one was watching what they were doing. So to save these banks, they give them trillions of dollars, yet no one gets arrested, and no new regulations are put in place to keep it from happening again.
so the banks are still free to start a new housing bubble, wait for it to collapse, and get another huge bail out from the tax payers.
These banks that got bail outs need to get broken up into many smaller banks that can fail, or succeed based on their business practices.
Quite a few banks have failed. The Euro banks are on life support. If you want fun filled Great Depression antics, let them all fail. It will be fun. Of course, this time the US keeps what it kills. Lets do it right though. The President changes his title to Praetor, and has to wear purple robes and golden oak leaves. It will be a gas!

boycotting the banks are not going to cause another great depression, letting the banks continue to go unregulated so they can keep doing the same stuff they have been doing will. I'm not sure what england has done, but in the US, nothing has been done to prevent this same scenario from happening again. And now the banks know, they can take greater risks for bigger profits for themselves, and if they cause another recession the taxpayers have their backs.

The National Marxist Workers Party Union something or other tries to do this at least once a year. General strike! Workers of the world unite, you have nothing to lose but your non-unionised jobs, lifestyles, houses, and ability to support yourself!
Needless to say, the proposed days are always business as usual. What does this achieve but demonstrates that you are willing to lie to your employer to get behind some nebulous political vaguery, at best? You want change? Get into politics. Fight on the same battlefield.

Overall, this probably fizzled. Only about 30K in New York took to the streets that I have heard about so far. However, not sure what percentage/number of people that took the day off that were scheduled. We may never know.

Agincourt is a good example of this...
Though politically instead of militarily?
It could get very nasty for those in the light...
