so dakka what themed army ideas you have floating around in your head or been wanting to do but haven't gotten around to it yet?

mine are:

either an empire,dark elf, or dwarf crossbow line( we all heard of gunlines but i never seen a crossbowline)

all skink lizardman army( many blowpipes and stegs!)

tomb king archer army( double casket, double screaming skull, lots of skel archers)

throgg army of trolls( halfway started but had to abandon because of $$)

a traitor empire army gone to chaos( themed regiments for each god)

a beastman themed wookie army.( useing star wars miniatures game figures and some conversion work)

an undead empire army but still loyal( based on the lost province of solland)



thats all i got floating around in my head for the moment. here are some themed armies i have already done;

carnivale of chaos( carnivale based nurgle army for warriors of chaos useing horror click figures that were converted and repainted.)

hannibal elephant army for beastman( used elephants for chariots and made scratchbuild howdas with gors and beastigors riding them)

spider rider army for OnG( as the name suggest but used mini spiders for squigs and bigger ones for the mangler squigs, turned giant wolfs into wolf spiders )

Tzeentch traitor elf army for WoC( swordmasters as marauders with conversion work on the warriors to have high elf heads.)

drycha forest spirit wood elf army( used mage knight figures, elementals figures that resembeld treekin and the large dnd tree ents)

Highlander Ogres (Kilts, blue face paint etc etc)
Orogres(Ogres converted to Orcs-green skin, tusks etc)
Undead Brets (Basically VC, but counts a Bretonnians)

The forest tribe (forest goblins and savage orks, throw in a few gigantic spider hearoes and a couple of araknarok and its set).
The stampede (lizardmen with 3+ stegs and a carnosaur) (DE with a dragon and/or manticores supported by cold one knights and chariots) (Ogres with a couple of thundertusks/stonehorns and some mournfang, maybe a hunter on a beast too).

I always wanted to do this, but it's not too much fun to use all the skirmishing skinks, or to play against it... the mass stegs I love, though!

I had briefly considered an "Avatar" lizardmen army. Basically, as many terradons as could legally fit . Would be a specatcle to behold, but probably not very practical.

I'm putting together an all cavalry vanguard list for chaos warriors. The idea being that they are the outriders of the main horde, racing ahead and hitting vulnerable targets before fading away.

Lord is a flying Daemon Prince, heroes are all mounted, core is all marauder horsemen and hounds, drogres and knights as special, shaggoth and spawn as rare.

I am actually thinking about doing a bret list from the territory that fell to the undead. It would have the same cav-infantry ratio as my other lists(read:99-1) but using VC models. It'll give me a chance to use either book depending on my mood.

An eastern based Empire Army with Samurai, Arquebusiers and Foo Dog Demigryph riders

A Fishmen based Lizardmen army (Troll Forged Miniatures helps here)

An Albion based Chaos Army with lots of Maurauders, Fenbeast Ogres and Giants

Skaven based Hamster army, just cuz

I have many themed armies I wish I could do, but if and when they redo Bretonnia, I would love to make a Mousilion army composed purely of Chaos Knight models. It would be expensive, but would look absolutely awesome to see Chaos Knights with their lances in the standard Bret formations.

Too many to list.

Gnoblar Empires. With lotsa gnobs. Prodding along sabertusks and gorgers. Stonehorn as a hoodah. Scraplaunchers. And a really big gnoblar for a leader.

Commando Ogres. Camoflage gear and face paint. Firebellies are ogres with flamethrowers. Lots of leadbelchers and ironguts. Cannons but without the stupid Rhinox.

All troll army. Sorta. I always liked trolls, even though they aren't the greatest. I hate WoC though. So greenskin army with Savage Orcs biguns' with AHW being baby trolls.

Relic priest Slann. Not Kroak, just another relic priest with rules as a regular Slann. Lizardmen have such good fluff.

All white/blue TZ Daemons army buth with multi-god. I'm sick of red bloodletters and bloodcrushers. And they're daemons. The lord of change and transmutation only has PINK horrors? Though they do look good pink.

Twilight-based VC. hahahaha.

Expand on that with a raised host, dino skeletons are a common toy but the skeleton saurus and skinks have me stumped though.

One I'd like to revist that I had back during the Storm of Chaos campaign. Of course will require me to return to fantasy first, but none the less.

Mordheim 'Black Feathers' Patrol, my own idea, based around the idea that even after Magnus' cleansing, the area around Mordheim would be a bloody dangerous place.

So I have a army themed with Black tunics and feathers, while still wearing the yellow/purple leggings of Ostermark. As my army grew, I introduced more units that where traditional Ostermark colours, so the Patrol became a sub faction with in the greater army, so it looked even cooler out on a flank.


Others I have dreamt about doing...

Chaos Goblins - A Tzeentch Sorceress, takes over a Goblin cavern and corrupts the goblins into her followers. The idea is to have the army themed so it can be used as either a Goblin army or a WoC army.

This is done by having two set of movement trays. One which is Goblin size, and then a bigger one, that has slots for the Goblin bases but spaces them as if they where on the larger Chaos Warrior bases. Use Goblin and Chaos parts to theme the figs.
This worked quite well, well using the older Goblins anways, mixing them with the older Chaos Warrior bits and some Marauders parts. Basically Goblin glegs, Marauder/Warrior chest, goblin arms and head with a mix of weapons.

I actually did some for Warhammer Quest, but only had a couple of units painted before I sold it all back in 2006-7.


All Khaine Dark Elf Cult army, with hundreds of Witch Elves. This may well happen if they ever get a 'good' plastics box.

Currently working on D&D Drow themed Dark Elves with Feyri (half daemon half drow) Harpies.
On the backburner: Japan themed Skaven.
Scottish themed dwarves with lots of Westwind and Gamezone scots plus Slayers.

Meh, why would you need zombie dinos? There's plenty of those guys who are live. Slann they ain't making any more. I just like the idea that the corpse of a Slann is still one of the most powerful mages on the planet and they tote it around. In fact the difference between a dead Slann (relic priest) and a live Slann isn't very different. Maybe the dead Slann moves a tiny bit less and smells a bit more. But maybe not. It's like, 2 skinks are talking, "So, how is Lord Glazixizliozlilzioolksoizlozloisjowisnjo doing?" "Oh, he's fine. I mean he died a few years ago. But he's fine."

Here are the Chaos Goblins I did though, thank goodness for old Photobucket accounts.

I could have bought 100 clowns a "Bag O Clowns" $12 at my fav storeand did a Killer Clown from Outer Space theme. My daughterwould kill me if I ever did such a thing as she is fearful of any kind of clown .

Beastmen models + Carefully applied Enchanted Blue.

I actually thought about a Robin Hood and his Merry men using Wood Elves glade guard either a highborn or wood elf lord for Robin...

Kislev Beastmen brayherd, lots and lots of Albino Bestigors and Gors. I used around two pots of skullwhite just painting fur and heads.

A carnival of the damned WoC themed army with Nurgle and Slaanesh (totally unviable in a competitive list currently, but would be a lot of fun). Get the jester collector model from the Bretonnians and mix up some flagellents and goblin models for marauders. Paint up the warriors in bright, clown-like colours, a great unclean one painted up like the clown from Spawn. A warshrine that looks like one of those old carnival wagons with rotting horses (lots of conversion work there). The Lord could be the Jester model with some conversions to make him look sickly and a converted palanquin of nurgle to look like a stage being carted around by a couple of clowns that are smiling with pustuales and buboes and blood all over them. It would be super creepy/awesome.

I like Trolls. Trolls are cool. I like sorta silly but not too silly. Like 40K orks with giant klaws. But giants, with their huge bellies, just don't do it for me.

So I was mathammering around this weekend and I came up with an O&G troll army. Instead of the mekboy you've got shaman who have figured out how to control/manipulate/grow Trolls.

Forgeworld trolls. Maybe 12?


A Troll with 2 modded wrecking balls, ala a really big fanatic. That would be a Mangler Squig rules. But a Mangler Troll. I can't see taking more than 1 just because if you attack it/suicide with some fast single unit, it dies.

Sadly, I also don't see much reason to get stone trolls or river trolls.

Except for my stand-in for Rock Lobbers. The misfire chart can easily be interpreted as Stupidity. Wanders away. Forgets to throw, etc.


And what's that? A super rock troll? Aka a Forgeworld rogue idol. AKA an araknarok spider. The Flinger would be him throwing a boulder. The gobo attacks are debris falling off him. The rest of the stats pretty much match. Poison is just a wussier (or sometimes better) form of KB. You could even stick a gobo shaman on top.



I'm not as sure what to do with Core. Mostly cuz I don't like normal orc models or units. Weaknesses: Fire. Regeneration. It loses it's ability to regen on fire and doesn't have much that can create flaming other than a ring of fire. Ethereals are similarly an issue. The core would have to have a flaming banner or somesuch. I thought of putting a warboss on a wyvern to expand his LD bubble, but that's an awful lot of points just kind of chilling in the middle. Orc shaman could be good because most of the army is Immune to Psychology, so all the spells will often be +1str. But gobo spells are likely more helpful.

Dark Elf pleasure cult with deamonettes as witch elves a lesbian harem as the cauldron of blood and just normal dark elves for the cult members (all painted in a suitably garish manner) with some fairly NSFW unit fillers.

An Araby Raiders force using skinks as raiders and Stegs as elephants

I am doing a Lahmian themed Vampire Counts army from Praag. I'm using blood swains in place of skeletons (empire troops) and all i need to do is find out the color scheme for Praag.

I like the idea of an Empire army in Khaki and Pith Helmets, like the old 40k Praetorians..."Orcs Sar, Faaarsands ov 'em..."

baxter there is such an army list that is centered around black orks. it is only legal at the texas grand tournaments but im sure in local friendlies people wouldnt mind. here is the link to the pdf
