40k is a horrible place/time to be, and it's chock-full of nasty ways to go.

There are a bunch; surprise-braincrashed by daemons, kidnapped by DE, roflstomped by orks, or nommed on by nids, but over all, my nightmare 40k death would be via Great Unclean One. I remember, in one of the DoW games, the GUO has a special kill animation where he picks up your dude and just barfs all over him. It was completely nasty, and I think that'd probably be one of the harshest ways to go; massive septic shock.

At the hands of the Dark Eldar. They'd drag it out; they have to. Imagine tiny, monomolecular tipped white hot syringes being inserted into central nerves in your eyes. Imagine machinery slowly pulling at your bones, slowly contorting your form for days until your joints were left twisted masses of dead flesh, swollen with lymph fluid and blood. Imagine your throat being fit neatly with tiny razor blades, so that whenever it contracted to breath you'd be scrapping away flesh and inadvertently gulping down your own blood.

By your own hand, there is no honor in that death when the enemy stands, begging for that shot.

Getting Mindshacled and killing yourself with your own whip.

Dying would suck no matter how it happens.

My vote goes for being tortured to death by the DE, double for the fact that they will bring you back from the dead and start freshly all over again.

My second choice goes to being supper for a swarm of Tyranids.

For me, it would be anything that has to do with DE, or anything that has to do with Chaos.

The worst way would be to be cast into the pit of carkoon and digested over a thousand years by the mighty sarlacc.

Baring that, being trapped after an earthquake in a building that has no exits would be quite horrifying, slowly wasting away over a few days or do until you die of dehydration would be horrific.

To be just barely save from the grasps of a Necron Flayed One (who had successfully partially flayed you) only to discover that your rescuers belong to a Dark Eldar Haemonculi coven. There you are tortured and mutilated and raped and tortured and mutilated and... did i mention raped? for decades until by chance you find your way out of Comorragh and the Webway... and into a Plague world where you writhe in agony as warp spawned pestilence torment your flesh to an unfathomable degree. Then, right before death takes you, a band of orks land on the planet for a good fight and you are able to hijack one of their looted crafts and take off. You end up back home as a half dead, half mutated, thoroughly mutilated pestilent shell of your former self. Expecting to be welcomed back by your family after so long, your mother-in-law - a retired puritanical inquisitor (HA! who am I kidding, those jerks never retire), who you have never been on good terms with after she caught you jerking off so many years ago, apprehends you claiming that you have finally revealed what you had been for so long, a willing servant of chaos aka a heretic. Spiriting you to some forlorn part of the galaxy, you are tortured for years as you proclaim and plea your innocence to being a heretic and your mother-in-law takes out her sadistic pleasure out on you, never granting you the death you desire. However, a gene stealer cult launches a surprise attack upon the facility wiping out all the forces of the Imperium (including your mother-in-law) and they take you along with them, in the process infecting you. Lo and behold, in mid-flight to a hive world that the cult intended to infect, the cult is ambushed by a warband of completely looney Emperor's Children who think that ground up genestealer cults might be the secret ingredient to a new "ultimate" high. However, for some reason they take special interest in you and "play' with you for years before getting slaughtered by a warband of Sons of Malice. Who then eat you.

I'm going to go with being turned into a flesh sculpture by a DE 'artist' like that fat, house sycophant in Nightbringer.

I believe he was hanging there, suspended over his own skeletal ruin, in a nightmarish parody of a child's crib ornament for days before Uriel found him.

That would probably suck quite a bit.

I'm going to add to the choir of DE, as it's the only way to go where you curse the fact that your body can heal itself...

My dark horse here is going to be dying to be fuel for the astronomicon. Being tortured by DE or getting dissolved by tyranid goop only lasts as long as your body does. Having your SOUL slowly ripped apart and used as fuel in a massive emotionless machine, that exists to process your existence into a psychic scream so loud that it can be heard from the other side of the galaxy...

... seems a pretty terrible way to go.

Worst way to go? At the hands of a Mad Dok. Have fun with your squig-brain transplants, and your exploding legs wear your arms should be...

Falling into a pit full of Tyranid rippers would be a bad way to go. Hell, any way to die that involves Tyranids would be a bad way to go.

Anything involving Dark Eldar would also be a horrifying way to die.

And lets not forget being used as slave labor by Orks. constantly beaten and malnourished untill you collapse, at wich point they feed you to a pack of facebiter squigs.

Sacrificed to the dark gods. Though if it came to that id pledge myself to them and if fortune favors me ill be reborn to take my revenge

Sure, being dropped into it might be quick. Being dragged towards it while seeing other life forms dropped in and being broken down into a thick gruel? It's all part of the experience, not just the part where you melt.

Definetely Dark Eldar, the closer to a haemonoculus the worse - unless you're Craftworld Eldar in which case dying without your soul stone is the worst way to go.

Dying to a grot is just humiliating, so look on it from the bright side, you won't be alive to suffer from it. The various human tortures are quick and clumsy (read: there's a high chance you'll die quick) when compared to the Dark Eldar. Tyranids usually don't have any reason to keep you alive prefering to get at that juicy biomass asap. Orks, mad docs included, are brutal rather than efficient at dealing pain. That more or less leaves Chaos as the only possible usurper to the horrifying throne that Dark Eldar has sat their collective perfectly shaped asses on.
