Hello Dakka! This will be my first blog...ever. I am an old school Warhammer 40k player, and a "trying to be good" painter.

I am now 32 yrs old. I started playing 40k when I was 15. My first force was Necron. I never really cared about the painting back then. Playing was so much more fun. I only had one friend back then who even tried to paint.

SO...back in the day my Necron essentially looked like legos. I bought a can of chrome paint and dipped them all in after a massacre of glue and terrible flocking. They looked like the T-100 from terminator diddled a melted Lego-Person and had a baby. Since I never painted the flock separately it blended into the base. Looked SUPA-BAD. Even back then I was considered one of the better painters in my group because I actually took about 2 minutes per unit to slap on some paint.

I quit playing 40k when I went to college. I was walking past a store almost a year and a half ago. I saw the new Necron and said what the heck. I took some GW painting lessons and bought a box of warriors and Immortals.

I work full time as a Paramedic and have a new son so I am not able to crank out models like some. I did invest in an Airbrush and the full range of supplies though.

A bit about my set up. I just made a ghetto light box out of a pop up hamper using a guide. I live in the boonies though and was not able to find the white poster board they asked for so I bought black. Maybe when I crawl out from under my rock of "WTF is Photoshop" I can edit the pictures a bit.

I am totally open to full constructive criticism. I am really trying now to push myself to a level like Orki. I know I have a LONG way to go. (I think thats his user name, did the Cerci Lanister and wicked Farseer on this site)

I was doing a string of posts in the Painted gallery but wanted to perhaps get advice as I went on models so here we go!

Here are some of the pictures I have Taken. (Same models as my other long post but with a ghetto lightbox now)

They look pretty fantastic dude!

Love how you've given crons a colourful scheme, they seem to often be painted mostly a single colour. My first army was necron. I sprayed them black then dry brushed them silver. Done.

And your lords all look like they have character, which is another problem with necrons. Good job

Hey Two Spartan. Its really awesome you posted because I've been following your Fallout 3 themed force since I joined forums. Its pretty freakin bad@ss! My idea with these necron was to make them stand out a bit. With the new codex adding personality into the fluff I figured each lord would want his own wardrobe. All the Necron players at the local store all have the basic metal look. While as a force it looks uniformed, I found it quite boring. Also with the painting classes I took I wanted to really get a shot at painting multiple colors.

Thats when the idea hit me for Crypteks painted in a scheme different for their type. It gave me the chance to practice.

My idea as a whole force is to have Anrakyr, his Immortals, and the Lord that cruises with his Immortals to all be black, bone, and red and gold. I am currently putting together a command barge. It is magnetized to allow for either. I am torn on whether to paint it in the black and bone or red and metal scheme. If I am to use it more as a command barge than an annihilation barge I think having a vehicle that matches his scheme would be more suitable.

The rest of the force will be red, boltgun, and gold.

Thanks again for the kind comments Spartan! Good luck with your project as well.

Those colours work nicely together, quite like how the metal sort of took a back seat. As you said so many silvercrons everywhere.

I really like the Overlord and the retinue. Nice color combos there. I'll be watching this blog.

VERY nice to see some character in a Necron force. Keep up the good work!

Here is a WIP of my wraith color test. C&C welcome. Its about 80% finished. Have to touch up face plate, add some green to the tubing on the claw limbs and finish whipcoils and base.

I'm definitely following you, and hoping to pick up some tips!

Thanks thekieferkapeg! Appreciate the words of encouragement.

I'll be finishing it today hopefully. Next up is a Command Barge. I will post a couple before paint pics and ask a few questions about which direction to go paint wise. to give me soem ideas.

This wraith is the largest model I've painted and at times it was a little overwhelming to think about how much I still had to pain to finish it. Once I got to the final stretch though the passion took over or something because all I could think about was finishing it

The command barge is magnetized. I unfortunaly fully assembled the main body of it instead of looking ahead on here and following all the comments about painting the sections seperatly. I am worried about how its going to turn out but I'll give it my best go.

Finished my frist wraith. I think its a little sloppy. I got really bored painting it and I think I let go of some discipline at that point. Hope it still turned out well!

C&C welcome.

Nice work on the wraith! Have you seen the preview pictures for the real Anrakyr model yet? It's Finecast, but you should at least take a look.

Hi there, about 3 weeks ago my neighbor, the one who got me back into the hoby, gave me all of his Dark Eldar. When I was learning to paint, I helped him on about 80% of these guys. (the painted ones) He said he couldnt win with them so he was getting rid of them.

Since then I've held onto them in case he realizes his fit of rage was pretty silly and he decides he wants them back. At that point I would have lectured him a little bit on not being spontanious when angry (hes only 20, I feel like a geezer at 32 in compairison).

Well I went over to his house yesterday and his mother tells me hes joined the Canadian Navy. I guess he sold off ALL of his collection. He had a ton of stuff. Mostly Marines and Tau. I owe him a lot in the way of the hobby. He taught me to paint (mostly), gave me a buncha stuff, rulebook, rulers, etc. Hope hes doing well.

I know this isnt exactly Necron, but it is a blog. Wanted to share my buddies stuff and show you the roots of my painting style. They are a hybrid painting between me and him. I practised techniques in all the base coating (primer w/ airbrush), primary color coat, basing, and some of the edge highliting.

I painted the scourge in the pictures 100% Took me forever. So for refrence purposes, I guess that would be my FIRST model fully painted with all I have learned.

On a side note, I do not like the colors he chose. I personally would have done them in an aged bone and turquoise'ish cloth. We debated a lot about it but he said Bone was to much of a #$%^ to paint.

ANYWAYS...

I will post some pictures up that i took of his force. I dont know if I will keep them. I'm more keen on starting Tau or Space Wolves.

On a wierd note, it keeps switching my country from Canada to America.

Any reason why?

Man, there's "Rage Quit" and then there's "I joined the Navy Quit". Hope your friend does well in his career choice!

I love the work you're doing with the various 'green glowy bits'. They really look etherial, as if there's an inner light. Great job!

@DrTemujin Yes I think I can. I will be updating often as I go :-)

Also thank you for DE comment. I only painted 1 fully solo. I actually sold the whole lot of them minus a few for $200. No interest in playing them though I kept a few to paint!

Here is some quick pictures of what I started on.
