Which means everyone is forming these alliances in order to stop the Tyranid's mega-hive fleet that will have showed up in the fluff this edition.

What do you think? Any chance this theory is correct?

Possibly, or GW could just hate nids. It is probably something related to the fact that nobody would want to work with tyranids.

Its interesting to say the least, and would be cool to see.

But I still think its just because Nids have no possible allies because of the whole cross the universe and destroy all the biomass they find story.

Its possible Nids can ally with themselves thus allowing Nids to fully utilize their full array of Elite choices. Maybe..

Perhaps IG as a sort of weak throwback to stealer cults. But that'd be up there with the Squats or something.

Umm yea that is not quite a diplomat. More of a scout.

Though I guess if you are going to count aggressive negotiations, then Hive Tyrants are Diplomats as well...

All diplomacy is a continuation of war by other means.

I could see them gaining allies by subverting/hive-minding their commanders.

If a general off in X sector issues an order for Y Regiment of guard to assist Z xeno force in the elimination of another force, in the emperor's name etc, they aren't likely to say no

Their ability to subvery members of other species and use them against enemies of the hive mind sounds tailor-made for IG + Nids vs (insert other army here), to me

Subvert a company or two of guard, a tau enclave, an ork tribe... you get the picture

They would be better off eating the potential allies and gaining their knowledge and spawning new nids out of that consumed biomass.

subverting/hive-minding commanders is an all too lengthy process where distinct identification is needed, then once the deed is done they would have to make them act fairly "Normal" and I just do not see that happening.

*shrug*

Probably.

Doesn't stop them doing both, though, if they are feeling sneaky. They are quite capable of long-term sneaky infiltration/planning that provides them with non-nid armies at their disposal.

Stealer cults are still in the fluff, if no longer playable in the dexes, and take several generations to seed, grow and prepare themselves before over-running a world's defenses.

Sometimes just eating everyone in tooth's reach isn't the best solution.

I miss my old ork-nid hybrid rules :(

Actually i miss a lot of the old ork rules, period

Mind you, some of the ork+other race combos could be fun.

I have an urge to grab a Hammerhead, a tau crisis suit and a unot of fire warriors, and orkify them. Nob head on the suit, grot heads on the FW, as well as grot boots.. Ork Kaptin on the turret gun..

I think it was the purple pimp-mobiles and the gang associations ('drive by shooting' rules, for example) that they were trying to distance themsleves from.

A lot of the small, cool niche armies went away. You could still run them (Cult limos as Chimera, perhaps? ) but it would be as a counts-as. Not as satisfying.

I may have to revisit the old Cults and make a small force.

Probably the same reason they seem to want to forget Necromunda then.

No reason they couldn't come back, the limos that is, would kind of hope for renegade guard to be led by a corrupt governor in one.

You can ally with tyranids the same way you can ally with an aggressive yeast infection. I.e., you can't.

The thing is I can get the snubb at the moment, as if you just open Imperial Guard and Tyranids as allies, you probably won't see as many Cult armies as Hive Tyrants stomping around with Guard.

However I'd like to think a special character or rule could be added in the next update of the Tyranid codex, allowing Guard armies to take A Genestealer Patriarch and normal stealers in a Guard force.

I am guessing now the Allies rule is in place, the potential for Special Characters opening up additional unique alliance pathways may occur.

Its hard to say, from the brief text it sounds like they have armies that work well together, armies that will work together if they have to, and some armies just won't work together. Depending on the catagory your allies falls into probably determines how many ally units and what type of units you can bring (my 2c)

I don't know that much about all the "fluff" yet, but it seems like maybe Tyranids would ignore Necrons since they wouldn't have biomass and maybe Necrons would let Tyranids just do their thing since it involves killing the other organic life (at least untill they get rid of whoever else is on the planet they happen to be fighting on). It might be a bit of a stretch, but that's all I could come up with for a semi feasable Tyranid alliance.

Why would they?

Tyranids are, quite frankly, the ONLY race in 40k which does not "ally" itself with anyone.

People keep pointing and shouting "But they should have done Genestealer Cults! Then Tyranids could have allies!".

No they could not have. Genestealer Cults are made up of random civilians and mutants; none of which currently exist in a rules format. They would not have the same stats as Guardsmen (they don't have the training for it), and would have even worse stats than the Conscripts/Penal Legionnaires.

Being under the psychic thrall of a xenos creature does not make you a competent soldier. It makes you cannon fodder.

Necrons go out of their way to kill Tyranids, but Tyranids try to avoid them.

The "kill all organics" bit of Necrons no longer exists, thankfully.
