The basic idea is to bombard the enemy to death while the Vets sit on objectives behind said wall of tanks. Not sure what to do with the extra points (about 65 or so left over). Since alot of players are abandoning transports I decided it would be a perfect time to bring out the big guns. My only worries are flyer lists as I don't really have an answer for them.

First they raised prices on the Eldar, and I did not speak out because I did not play Eldar.

Then, they raised prices on the Orks, and I did not speak out because I did not play Orks.

Then, they raised prices on the Nids, and I did not speak out because I did not play Nids.

Then, they raised prices on the Marines, and there was nobody to speak out for me.

I know the point of the list is heavy tank spamming but you're running quite the risk by only using 1 type and investing 2/3 of your points into those models.

Since the few Chimera and the lone Vendetta give your opponent great targets to use their S6-S8 weapons on, what about dropping the transports entirely for more bodies and switching up the tanks a bit. At a minium, I would consider turning one of your squadrons into a Demolisher squadron to get some AP2 and increase your heavy anti tank firepower. Swapping the plasma to melta in at least one of your foot squads would be a good way to boost AT again and save points.

Cut the plasma's down to 2 from 9, not sure if that a good trade off for 3 demolishers.

Since I now have the models for this I decided to revisit the list to see if anyone had any advice.

It still seems very... bloated. I'd consider dropping 1 tank from each of the 3 squadrons to fit in some more mechanized veterans, if for nothing else than more scoring bodies. The list seems like it would have trouble pulling off objective-based missions.

Granted I might have trouble with objectives, the the main point is to bring enough fire power to table an enemy. I would like to keep nine tanks if I can help it.

the main problem you will have is if your opponent deploys at the back of the table and you end up playing night firing because you wont be able to see the enemy ...... apart from that, having so many tanks gives you the advantage of the imperial guard but also the dis advantage of 6th ed rules and the matter of number.

i have played against a list similar to this using my tau and broad sides are my saviour against these kinds of lists. another problem you may have is necrons massing troops in transports since they always glance on a 6, a full troops list can and will more than likely glance 1 squadron to death per turn

Tau 4500
Dark Eldar 2500
Space Wolves 4000
Grey Knights 3500
Tyranids 1500
Space Marines 2000
Blood Angels 2000
Black Templars 2500
Dark Angels Dark Vengeance x3
Chaos Space Marines Dark Vengeance x3

Not to mention flyers - you have literally nothing that will reliably kill them. A necron doom scythe or two would have a field day against this!

My concern about this list is that it won't be able to snap fire if you suffer pens, as all your big guns are blast weapons (don't know if lumbering behemoth addresses this or not)

I would exchange one set of LRBT for Exterminators. That would give you some options against flyers.

You mentioned having 65 spare points?
Why not upgrading your Aegis Defence Line with a lascannon or quad-gun? That would provide some AA support.

I thought about that, but the aegis defense line actually has to be maned by a unit, the vets will be busy holding objectives, maybe I can have the command squad parked behind there using it.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Another option would be to try to free enough points to put a Vendetta in there.

HHB on the Chims, AC's on the Vets and CCS?
That'll give a solution to the flier problem.

Has anyone done the math hammer to see how many autocannon hits it takes on average to glance a flyer.

With double force org at 2000pts, have you considered spreading out your 9 tanks across the extra 3 HS slots?

Made in us
Crazed Spirit of the Defiler

Don't have the points, double force org requires a minimum of 2HQs and 4 Troop choices at 2000 points. Can't have 9 tanks and 4 troops and 2 hqs, requires to many points to stay at just 2000.

This is for units snap firing at the flier.

Hmm at strength 7 the auto cannons aren't too bad, still they need 6'sto hit.

I will say this, 9 russ' are not fun to face. Anything other than lance, las cannon or rail should have difficulty taking them out at range, and the amount of templates you can lay down is rather punishing. Demolishers alongside your bog standard russ' are good, str 10 ap 2 is brilliant for termies and high armour value targets.
I just don't see the value in the veteran teams. There really is a lack of infantry to cover the tanks, which can be catastrophic if something nasty gets close enough to combat you. But with that many tanks, I suppose more infantry isn't really possible.
But overall, I think this could work...if you get the first turn and don't get night fight.

Not taken into account rending, melta's and any special rules regarding extra AP yet. May do in the future to see how far I can get this mathshammer refined.

Considered that, but without transports the veterans have no way to reliably stay or get to objectives, as much as I want not every game is kill points.

YES MARBOOOO! Seriously, Marbo will scare the crap out of any unsuspecting army

Black Templars are the best Space Marine Chapter out of all the Space Marines. They are the most fanatical marines out there. They are on an endless, eternal crusade for the god emperor. AND they get in the face of the enemy. Thats the way to get things done.

At a very basic level, scoring troop units.2 vet squads will not go far in most missions.Yes,you are at an advantage in the big guns never tire mission,in most of the others ( that feature multiple objectives ) you will find it very hard to compete,if not impossible.

5 of 6 missions are objectives, of which you will probably lose if only using 2 troops choices, 10 vets are easy to kill, remember chimeras have S10, and vendetta's / cronflyers / stormflyers will cause havoc as your quad gun is BS2 unless you jump out of a chimera., and a quad gun is easy for a vendetta to kill
