Why are the Ultramarines so famous among the Imperium if they can be corrupted so easily?

Because they are supposedly the most Codex adherant chapter and their Gene-Seed is the most stable
|
in Inquisitor, a Space Marine can take a krak grenade, pull out the pin, eat the grenade, throw the pin, and the thrown pin will actually kill a normal man, whereas the Space Marine won't even have indigestion. This has actually happened in a game. Hell, a marine can throw his bolt shells and do more damage than by shooting his boltgun |

Not really. If you compare the Ultras to other major Chapters, you'll note that the others have some sort of geneseed deficiency, don't work so well with other parts of the Imperium, and/or have some terrible secret they're afraid of anyone finding out thus limiting their support.
There may be smaller Successor Chapters with an even better track record than the Ultras (percentagewise), but they lack the numbers and influence.

The main space marine force? How so? Because they have more artwork than other chapters?
They don't have their own codex (though I will be fair and say that C:SM basically is and was called codex Ultramarines previously) like multiple other chapters. They don't have any models or kits other than special characters. They have never been on the front of a rulebook either. All the 6 or so main chapters are pretty fairly distributed in therms of being "like the main chapter".
Also, where do you see that they are corrupted easily? That confuses me. Perhaps some sources so I get what you mean?

I can see that you play the Mighty Sons of Baal (good choice ) so you can understand why it would be bad if say 50% of all the chapters were from the Blood Angels, we have enough trouble with the Flesh Tearers and the Knights of Blood running around killing their allies, we wouldn't want anymore of them

Are they so easily corrupted?
What are the alternatives?
Grey Knights, sure, but their whole schtick is that they are secret, so no fame for them. Likewise, Dark Angels would rather prefer one doesn't talk about them.
Ultramarines certainly don't turn as frequent or quickly as Space Wolfes (see Huron's capture of the Wolf of Fenris) or IF descendants (see Soul Drinkers). They don't have a weird thirst for Human Blood or general disregard for human flesh in general. Etc., etc.., etc..
In a flawed setting, Ultramarines stand out as pretty reasonable given the alternatives.

Because Guilliman wrote the Codex and sat on the ruling council of Terra after the Heresy.
Because half of current Space Marine chapters are descended from the Ultramarines.
What makes you say Ultramarines are corrupted easily?

Go read the rulebook. Or the Space Marine codex. The actual representation of the Ultramarines within the universe before you cite a youtube movie as your ultimate source.

Well, Ultramarines can be corrupted. Noone doubts that. Everyone except Grey Knights can.. which is their trademark. And the corruption of one or more Ultramarines may feature in 40K stories, books or movies
But why do you think Ultramarines are especially easy to corrupt? I see no indication that this would be a particular weakness of them or that the can be corrupted with greater ease then anyone else (safe, once again, Grey Knights).

Space Marines tend to do some silly stuff in most movies and novels. Or anyone from 40k, for that matter. All that matters is that the end result is a good story.
Attempting to extrapolate on this is like trying to form an opinion on Ancient Sparta by watching "300".
It's not exactly "wrong", though. 40k has no canon, so everybody is free to go by the source he or she prefers. Just be aware that the various sources are not meant to deliver a consistent image of whatever you're looking at, but rather a number of different interpretations of the setting.

I think you need to give the rulebook an objective read through then. Because you clearly have missed a significant portion of the fluff if you believe they are easily corruptible and vanilla.

Yes I am serious. I don't mean to offend, I am just making an observation on your posts.
You said that the Ultramarines are the main force: which they really actually aren't. But I can see why you would think so.
You said they are so easily corruptible: But you cite a youtube movie as your primary source. Reading the rulebook and codex should tell you otherwise
You said they are vanilla: also if you go a little bit deeper into their fluff you will see this is not the case.

Then you have no real sources?
But you will learn that you are not necessarily "right". Just as no one else is. I have my own opinion on it, and I may be able to use a more understanding approach to determining my opinions but I can't bully you into something else just because I believe it to be right. We could start an arguement on why the thought of Ultramarines being "vanilla" is not their best desctiptor. I'm down for it? Are you? (not be sarcastic here)

All space marines are vanilla?
Some are monks who collect relics and might or might not actually worship chaos.
Some are obsessed with technology and go as far as removing their own limbs to replace them with machines.
Some are pyromaniacs with a thing for dragons.
Some are basically mongolian hordes in space.
And all of these example chapters FOLLOW THE CODEX. That's not even getting into chapters who are un-vanilla enough to even follow the rules that even these strange cases follow.

I certainly enjoyed it for what it was.
People criticizing it for a lack in "historical accuracy" apparently just didn't get that it was a movie-version of the legend rather than the actual thing.
Kind of like what various GW people said about 40k sources, too, now that I think about it.

The problem with 300 was not its lack of historical accuracy. If you're going to compare it with a 40k source, try C. S. Goto's Dawn of War series. A lot of "inaccuracy" can be forgiven or not even noticed if the story is actually any good to begin with ...

I dunno, I thought it captured the spirit of that myth perfectly. As if Herodotus himself had written the scrpt.
It's not exactly standard movie material, but we have to keep in mind that this stuff is from another era.
