hi guys.
i was wondering what the infinity communities opinion is on converting miniatures?
i could easily see doing head weapon swaps for variation or some limb rearranging simply because i find some poses odd.

how does the average player feel about things like this?

id love to see some conversions if anyone has any.

From what I gather nobody is overly opposed to them. Personally I'm not much good at conversions with pewter so I haven't tried to at all. But check out the Infinity forums on their site in the minitures subforum. I think there are a ton there.

I don't think anyone would object really. I wouldn't.

Here is a bunch of conversions: http://www.infinitythegame.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=11131

I agree. I think the main reason that you don't see so many is that the models are rather smaller (in proportion), delicate and more detailed than a lot of other 28mm miniatures. While something like swapping an Imperial Guardsman's weapon is very straightforward, it takes a bit more skill to do it with an Infinity model. Speaking personally, I managed to ruin 1 model (and have a friend who accidentally cut the hand off of a Yu-Jing Karakuri robot) from making a mistake when removing the metal tabs off the model!

But of course no-one has a problem with it. Even the official game creators are very open about allowing the use of proxy models, converted models and everything else. My only advice would be to plan carefully what you are doing, and don't go blindly in straight away with the clippers like I did!

That said, I do think the assessment of the Infinity community's attitude to conversion there was off. I've not exactly seen anything I would call hostility - reluctance perhaps, as they are tricky models to convert, but I've yet to see anyone actually taking issue with people converting their models.

I've done some head-swap conversions to differentiate my 9 fusiliers (4 are just clones of others) - they got helmeted heads - the plus is that I can use them as "Auxilia" as well - as the major difference really is the helmet on the auxillia (and their auxbots - but they can be sourced in several ways).

I converted a spare Multi-rifle ORC trooper to an Aquila Guard (with the addition of a GS'd surcoat and a spare sword.

That's him on the left.
I reposed the Squalo (Armoured Cavalry) TAG. It has ball-jointed arms, which makes it easier, but the model's left hand is moulded onto the top rail of his gun. So I had to make a new top rail, and hand.

Standard model.
Converted model. Not happy with the head - it's currently headless. Looking through my bits for an old 1/144 scale veritech battloid head to replace it.

As for difficult in converting - after having to deal with GW's metals post the "lead free" days (when they were quite hard and brittle), I learned how to pin metals, and I can pin a spear shaft with the tools I have, so Infinity models are not difficult for me.

That first Fusilier looks great Chromedog. Can I ask where you got the helmet for him from?

I think we can all agree that kids coming into modelling these days have it easy.. "Oh no, I have to use superglue..." and "oh no it's a little bit difficult to cut!" Jeez man, grow up and get a pair! I think the prospect of some of the old metal dragons (not being able to hold the wing straight, because of the tears of frustration ), landspeeders and whatnot would make a lot of modellers these days have an aneurysm!

If you are very much about WYSIWYG then you almost need to convert. There's still a lot of figs without certain weapon options. So you either convert or proxy.

The Fusilier helmet came from a GZG 25mm Stargrunt figure.
A New Anglian Confederation (NAC) marine.

I used to use the 25mm figures as "true scale" v GWs marines as powered armour troops in SGII. Made the SM look like the giants they are supposed to be.

I did this little conversion last night, my first for Infinity but I think he works well.

(You'll have to forgive the poor picture quality and dodgy angle. I haven't uploaded for so long I've forgotten all the settings! )

Pretty simple one really, I used the Eldar Prince Whatshisname, a Dire Avenger arm, a Haqqislam combi rifle and a little gs. (Thank fully only a little gs as I'm terrible at using that stuff! )

And so I present Sun Tze v.2 w/ Multi Rifle!

I'll get him painted this weekend (hopefully) and post much better pics!

Man those pics are bad! Even worse than I expected! Shame on me!

So i'm not sure my other pics (the really bad ones in the above post) no longer work but it's probably for the best.

Here's a better one of the 99% finished model.

(I'm going to run this guy as v.1 first to see how the extra ARM & W work out!)

Have to say that is an awesomely done model, with a wonderful paint job as well! Can't tell that it is anything other than a bought model, which I think is the real clincher when it comes to conversions..

Personally I adore converting Infinity minis, some are designed to be converted like Gwailos who are made to be arm swapped, or the Teutons/ Magisters who are quite similar and arm swaps can be done with minimal hassle.

But bigger conversions are more fun, the realistic proportions mean you rarely have to hack impossibly big chunks of metal to do what you want.

And a few pics of some conversions I made.

All you need is a space marine scope, and a small cylinder (used the frame of a scout sentinel)
The extremity of the canon is just a cutted down sprue thingy =)

He looks more "DMR" than sniper.
Sniper conversions are one of the easier ones, though.

Barrel extensions are easy. Mine usually involve drilling, and pinning some tube in place (pin is mainly to line up new barrel end).

Agreed for the barrel extension degree of difficulty.
But for the DMR comment, this gun is longer than the official sniper rifles =P

My thinking would be some sort of war band. So Monks, Morlocs, or Khawarij maybe. Kawarij at least have super-jump but they only have AVA1.

I'm wondering about the Tohaa now.

Hmm . . . Morlocs could work, and they do look quite Nomadie I suppose . . . you've got me thinking now!

I thought of PanO or Nomads for Eldar. I want to keep some of my eldar but don't want to play 40k.

Some really nice conversion in this thread I hav only done some simple arm swaps for infinity so far.

Received the wrong left arm for this veteran kazak so I attached a flame thrower from the old veteran kazak figure.

I used swapped the missile launcher for a hmg on this kazak.

As you can see, I took the shoulder-mounted HRMC and put in his arms instead. Makes more sense that way. And I also made the ammo feed obey to the laws of gravity.
