Thousand Sons- Implacable in their advance, while silent and disciplined in their enacting of controlled bursts of fire.

When I hear this song I imagine a sorcerer reading and meditating before a raid.

1:10 into the video sounds like concentrated bursts of bolter fire launching towards the enemy as the sorcerer and his brethren translate from the Warp and into the midst of their targets. I suspect this is what a Rubricae advance would sound like.

Krieg! What a hole...

Pretty models are pretty.

In the fluff the Death Korps's near unbreakable and their troops are generally a step above the run of the mill guardsmen, but they're still human.

And the way I see them, they're not really suicidal, more like pragmatic to the extreme.

The fact that the Inquisition is composed of ready-made RPG heroes, I think. Plus all the different pieces of music to set a Valkyrie-borne assault to (Wagner, Suicide Mission, Klendathu Drop, Valkyrie Run, and more).

But he reasons for my liking Sisters, Orks, and Imperial Guard, are there.

Imperial Guard.

Average humans fighting the horrors of the galaxy with nothing but lazor pointers, cardboard armour, and Balls of Steel. And...tons of heavy metal!

The best heroes imo come from the Imperial guard, where they are made, not by science, technology, or dark gifts, but by luck and strength of will.

Orks are my favorite because they just don't give a . In a galaxy with super armour and super weapons, they carry around axes and pistols. Some of them love the sound of their guns rather than its accuracy. They strap metal, wood, and whatever they find to stuff. And Ork quotes in their language is hilarious. and converting models and using other parts and sprues to make unique units. Looted tanks are the funnest things to build.

Space Marines because being the ultimate defender of mankind, dose not come without great cost. And the potetinale for falling so far you are lost to all.

Imperial Guard because allow the ine to falther is not an option, nor is allowing the enemy to win just becuase they posses better equipment. They do not have something you have, you have sheer wegtih of numbers and the eternal blessing of the Emperor!

On Nimbosa, cramming as many guardsmen into troop carriers as possible.

Tau, because they seem to be the most morally correct race to me, plus I love the fact that they are still developing, unlike other races that ares either at a standstill or dying.

Space marines because they are humanities guardian angels. they have so much on their shoulders and yet they still fight on.

Imperial guard because they are the average soldiers of the imperium. They are the backbone of humanity. The only way they succeed is through sacrifice. They are just ordinary people who are put in a bad place and decide that their survival is less important than humanities survival.

I love my Imperial Guard because true courage is being afraid but fighting anyway. There's a nobility in going forth to face the ravening hordes clad in substandard armor, wielding mediocres small arms, led by inept political appointees.

I love my Wolves because they share the same fatalism and dedication. Rather than having mastered their fears, they sacrifice their humanity to be the defenders of humanity. While I don't believe for a second that the Astartes are the primary fighting force in the galaxy, they are both a symbol that inspires the countless billions of guardsmen and the force multiplier that saves millions of guardsmen.

Blood angels for me. What I take from thier lore is yes they are deffenders of humanity and all that. But they just do it with style and carry a big stick,

Tau- They are so unique and different. All they want is peace and always work together to get there. Thats why in the end i think they will be a powerhouse race, always evolving and never taking steps back.

Salamanders Chapter of the Space Marines? Why?

Of all the chapters, it is one of the few that doesn't merely fight for the Emperor. That is loyalty, but it is one of those chapters that fights for every human, fights its own brothers (in the case of the 3rd War for Armageddon, where Chapter Master Tu-Shan came to blows with a captain of the Marines Malevolent for shelling a civilian enclave.) Space Marines are the angels of death, but the Salamanders are the angels of salvation. True nobility.

The Promethean Cult governs the beliefs of the Salamanders, placing great emphasis on self-reliance, loyalty, and self-sacrifice. These values stem from their training as smiths. The Promethean Cult calls on its followers to emulate the deeds and be true to the teachings of the Nocturnean Primarch Vulkan as well as providing service to and worship of his father, the Emperor of Mankind. Prometheans believe deeply in the virtues of self-reliance and self-sacrifice for others, long defining cultural values of the Nocturnean people, who have struggled to survive the harsh environment of their volcanic and earthquake-wracked homeworld. They hold a firm belief in isolationism, the tenet that only through spiritual meditation and exploration performed alone and in isolation from others can a person gain a true understanding of both themselves and how they can best honour the legacy of Vulkan and serve the will of the Emperor.

They also just look awesome, especially with... flames. Oh, the flames.

By bolter and honour, by blood and fire, we shall cleanse this galaxy. By Vulkan, and by the Emperor, CHARGE!

Yo Dawgs, I heard you like grimdark, so I put grimdark in yo grimdark in yo grimdark in yo universe that is obviously grimdark.

Space Wolves - nobody cares more about common man and the IG then "Sons of Russ" (respect to Salamaders also),and they are the meanest, toughest bastards in IoM...and they like to drink...
+ they are still ultra - loyal to the Emperor and not the corrupt system which stomps hu-mans every day...

@Melissia - nice list, cheers...

ADB: I showed the Wolves revealing the key weakness at the heart of the World Eaters; showing Angron that his Legion was broken and worthless compared to the others; that he was the one primarch who couldn't trust his own warriors, and that they didn't care if he lived or died; showing that loyalty to brothers and sons is the heart of success for the Legiones Astartes, to the point even Lorgar makes a big deal out of saying the World Eaters and their primarch were massively outclassed by Russ, and Angron was too stupid to see the lesson Russ had sacrificed time, sweat, and blood, to teach. We're talking about a battle the Wolves won, by isolating the enemy general through pack tactics, and threatening to kill him, without a hope of defending himself. It was a balance, 50/50 - Angron overpowered Russ, and the Wolves were losing ground to the World Eaters; but Russ and his warriors had Angron by the balls, and barely broke a sweat. They won, no question. Lorgar even says: "The Wolves won, meathead."

Dorn won’t help you either. He’s too busy being the Emperor’s groundskeeper, hiding behind the palace walls. The Wolf is too busy cutting off heads as our father’s executioner, while the Lion holds on to his secrets, and has no special fondness for you. Who else will come? Not Ferrus, certainly. Nor Corax either. Even as we speak, I suspect he flees for Deliverance. Sanguinius?’ Curze laughed cruelly. ‘The angel is more cursed than I. The Khan? He does not wish to be found. So who is left? No one, Vulkan. None of them will come. You are simply not that important. You are alone.’ Konrad Curze to Vulkan

Imperial Guard are my favorite, by far. So much character to them if done right. Really silly if done wrong, but hey, the potential for awesome is so high, and the potential for customization is endless if you're creative and willing to spend the dough.

After that, the Orks. Their fluff and character is stupid, and I actually hate the "sentient, never-ending Space Fungus" change that happened at some point, but the fact that pretty much anything and everything is fair game as far as modeling, and the more ridiculous the better (Looted Monolith or Carnifex anybody?), how can you not like Orks? Snotling infested Orcs were my favorite Fantasy army when I still played, and I've always regretted never playing anything but Gorkamorka with Orks in 40K.

I mean, it sounds kinda weird for a guy with an extensive blog of heavily re-posed 31mm "Tall Scale" Space Marines, but if the Imperial Guard had plastics back in the day, I'd probably have chosen them for my new project when I came back to the hobby.

No one seems to remember something about the Orks that I think makes them awesome. The orks aren't a natural occurrence. They're a self-sustaining, ancient bioweapon that was accidentally unleashed on the galaxy by a dying civilization.

The snotlings are a devolved version of this civilization, aren't they? Brainboyz or whatever, which created the Orks as a warrior/slave caste, which just got major-league out of hand?

Also I started my World Eaters out of love of Angron/Kharn and I like the basic themes and ideas surrounding the World Eaters. Also Khorne is my favourite of the Chaos Gods as I'm quite an angry chap

That's the theory. Something went wrong, the creators of the orks and grots devolved into snotlings, and the orks (suddenly free of oversight) ran rampant.

Well, despite me collecting Chaos Space Marines, I think Eldar are the best.

They're ancient warriors, some thousands of years old, floating on huge spaceships and being in general awesome. There's so few of them as well. The fact that they're dying is also very, very appealing.

on the forum. Obviously

I like Orks because they are pure, 100% fun. They are pretty much the most self-aware race in the entire setting; they know they will die, they know that they live in a crap sack universe, so why not have a bit of anarchic fun?

I got into necrons because I liked the whole pseudo ancient- Egypt (yes, they were Egyptians in 3rd ed as well!) machine aesthetic, and I liked the psychological horror elements (which, sadly, are not that emphasized in their newer incarnation. It does give a bit more freedom than its predecessor, but still).

I have to go with the Space Wolves. The Sons of Russ are the way to go when it comes to armies of the 40k universe. I love the viking influence and uniqueness of each individual character. Plus what's cooler than a bunch of badasses riding around on giant wolves? Besides that my mates and I like to play out some fluff games with my currently small batch of Wolves against another mate's Thousand Sons or the occasional duel of one of my Wolves against of my mates Dark Angels to represent the ritual duel that takes place. Needless to say it's an awesome army with a lot of great fluff and a lot of power in it's units.

Renegade guard are just much fun because it's death and doom for everyone all the time! There's always an excuse to find more rabble for the meat grinder, and even more interesting plot twists like stealing a deathstrike missile launcher equipped with a stolen cyclonic warhead that if it's not disabled the whole planet dies for the glory of Chaos! Muwahahaa!
