Hi,

I have messed around with a few armies since the release of sixth edition.......I have had games my chaos marines, orks and Elysian fw guard. I have also just managed to field 1500 points of salamanders from the marine codex. However, I still haven't managed to find my groove yet....my lists still feel like fifth edition lists and haven't performed that well tbh. I have had a few good games but my lists need more tinkering.

Can I just ask what is people's perception on where the meta is at the moment.........what's consistently delivering results on the tournament scene in this edition, and from what codex. My perception is fateweaver demons are filthy at the moment along with necron Air Force.

This is just for discussion, I normally like to stick my head above water and get some feedback from the community to understand what's working in this edition.......

Thanks,

Pug

I'm still enjoying my All-Battlewagon force in 6th and my Meganobz love their 2+ saves.

However, I've also done an all-foot Ork force (vs. Space Marines with a 500 pt advantage that were tailored for anti-horde) and have come out far ahead.

i think fliers are the new thing, a new very broken thing... soon games will be flooded with them and the only positive will be getting to play "Danger Zone" to annoy the masses

Yeah fliers seem to be the new frontier, especially the necron flyer. I've seen just 3 of them wreck entire armies at the 2000 point level because the opponent didn't have an adequate answer.

Games Workshop: Ruining Chaos Space Marines since 2007

First they raised prices on the Eldar, and I did not speak out because I did not play Eldar.

Then, they raised prices on the Orks, and I did not speak out because I did not play Orks.

Then, they raised prices on the Nids, and I did not speak out because I did not play Nids.

Then, they raised prices on the Marines, and there was nobody to speak out for me.

I have a number of fliers and don't find them too bad, the light armour ones are fine......the av 12 fliers are a lot harder to deal with.......I have stopped shooting at storm ravens tbh.......they are tough to bring down without a quad gun.....and being honest I hate the fortification thing and so don't take it.

The orks are still competitive....however kans got nerfed a bit and I find them too easy to glance to death.....the hull point system was harsh on vehicles and I know a few mech heavy players have grumbled about it.

Agreed......you need to bring anti flyer.....which is either a quad guns or b more flyers.......be interesting if dark angels get access to sky fire missiles

yeah though its strange they'd nerf tanks in favour of fliers when not all armies have fliers
but I quit 40k in favour of fantasy when I saw 6th ed...

Agreed......I have had some luck with "man hammer" lists.....but it's not as fun as masses of tanks or walkers.....as I said in the op I haven't fully found my groove with this edition .......close combat seems less important and shooting now seems to be best

At a Place, Making Dolls Great Again

and when you have a close combat army... I don't feel like messing around with shooting
some armies I enjoyed being all mounted, like orks or dark edar
heck i'd heavily consider armoured company if it made a return
but fliers being so overpowered and the new thing... it works only if your opponent has the same sort of army
otherwise he's usually dead before he hits the table

not really all that strange when you seperate the game from the business...yes all armies have tanks...which you've already purchased...fliers on the other hand you dont have...if fliers are awesome then you will need to have them...which means buying new models. All armies will get a flier whenever gw gets around to it

People overreact heavily to the flier thing, its kind of ridiculous really. I also don't see a huge amount of fliers in my local meta game either. Guard is the largest and they always ran 3 -4 vendettas and they have become a little harder for you to shoot down if you don't prepare for them properly however you army does that. Power gaming lists and power gaming in general has taken a huge hit that's why you cant seem to get a handle on the meta game, play stuff outside the box and out play your opponent and don't make your list do all the work.

Fliers are good, not great. 'Crons are a little unbalanced, but they're already not top in tourneys.

When not facing Crons, IG tank squads are still kingmakers. There's definitely been an overreaction to the new vehicle rules. I've found that with glances not hindering the ability to fire and the kinder tables, most of my tanks fire more shots a game than in 5th. The new squadron rules also help.

Assaults are the same. Short sighted people think assaults are worse in 6e, but with weapon AP and challenges, I've found them working just as well.

Drop pods are better than ever. Kinder reserve rolls, tougher for opponents to do protective reserves, and awesome disembarking just make DP marines better than ever.

For my area, lots of people are losing transports and go full foot list, metal boxes are easy to kill and giving away first blood often costs the game, and flyers are the new hotness.

I feel really bad for the up and coming warhammer player, fielding his freshly painted nids, only to encounter a necron flying circus.

They don't even get aegis support. Sheesh.

I find flyers a pain to use, I don't enjoy taking my elysians anywhere to be honest.......five kr boxes is not fun to transport, also they are a pain to use on the board, lining up shots in vendetta squadrons etc

Tanks were a bit more storage and transport friendly...

I've found vehicles came out ahead in general, they are easier to kill now, certainly, but a lot harder to stop. Armies i face are going more towards having more boots on the ground, and i've noticed an increase in the number of mid strength multi shot weapons for dealing with fliers in the absence of any real anti-flier equipment. I've also noticed a general decrease in the number of dedicated assault units, that isn't to say assault is gone, it is still important, but the assault units i face have a bit more in the way of firepower, less in the way of in your face killiness.

From a more specific POV, marine armies seem to be trending towards tactical terminators rather than Hammernators, i'm seeing fewer transports. Plasma weapons seem to be becoming more prevalent and with the exception of rifleman dreads, i'm seeing no dreads at all. and the focus seems to be shifting towards having more sternguard in a marine force than before. the armies i face also have a lot more in the way of psykers of late.

I don't really think the game has settled into any particular meta yet, its still quite exciting

On moon miranda.

Lots of flyers and lots of Aegis lines with lots of allies and fewer tanks is what I'm seeing.

Tanks in general aren't really shooting all that much more, it's only against glancing hits that that really comes into play and many/most attacks penetrate more often than they glance, and any sort of assault sees a tank almost certainly dead with much of a chance.

Responses to flyers are lacking for many/most armies, and a single quad gun is generally not an adequate defense. Additionally, many flyers are over-armored thus making the situation even worse.

I think at my last League night there was an Aegis line with quad gun on all 12 tables, 7 of them having one on both sides

In terms of army meta, it's hard to say specifically, Allies has muddied a lot of that, but in general I'm seeing a lot of IG on tables, largely as allies another core force like Space Wolves or the like.

In my local area, I'm seeing;
- The power gamers pulling out as many fliers as they can get their hands on. Anyone who can ally in Necrons as 'allies of convenience' is trying to work in at least a pair of Nightscythes. Everyone else is going for IG and their Vendettas w/plasma vets.

- Anyone who doesn't want to play balls-to-the-wall 110% of the time are being slowly 'encouraged' to either 'get with the programe' or 'just get out'.

- If opponents know you're bringing Daemons, wether as your primary detachment or as allies, you can be assured of facing at least 10 Strike Knights because according to the power gamers, "Daemons are the most broken thing in 40k right now".

So for me, my local meta is a bloody nightmare and not much fun.

That could be said about many units in the game. If the opponent doesn't have an adequate answer to something you've brought, they're probably going to lose. It doesn't matter if that thing is flyers or AV14 vehicles when your opponent brought no weapons over S:6.

This is similar to my local area........lots of walls, allies and some fliers.

It could just be me, but I don't enjoy 40k as much as I used to.......I am hoping its because I haven't found my fave lists yet. We will see

Sounds more like the players you play with are dicks. Hopefully, you're in a big enough area that you can find some other folks to play with.

I'm noting a definite increase of hybrid style lists, and an increase in lascannons, plasma, and anti-infantry at the cost of missile launchers and meltaguns. My local meta actually overreacted here and no one has been bringing lists capable of handling double Land Raider rock lists. Light transports are vanishing, though I still find them perfectly useful for driving up fast and getting into position for a doubletap.

It depends on where you are. As you're in the Uk I'd probably recommend checking out the 40kuk podcast, they have a really good insight into the meta. Where I am there are quite a few Space Wolf players with guard allies, including me, although I'm the only one running it without a blob.
