Hey Guys,

So I've been inspired by US TV programme Falling Skies. I've bought and watched Season 1, and whilst it's so/so quality, i really enjoyed the mix of civilian and surviving military units scavenging for supplies.

As such please meet the first batch of Boonhaven Militia.

Camkierhi - What a load of rubbish... Amazing!
Rogue Wolves - Its rediculous how much character you pack into those guys
Skalk Bloodaxe: I know those will be awesome when finished, but right now they look like crackers.

And here's part of the main imperial "relief" force.

Background

The idea is that the planet Boonhaven is split between two continents. The southern most continent is by far the larger of the two, and the land is entirely given over to agriculture. This agriculture is almost singlehandedly feeding a huge imperial crusade in a neighbouring sector.

When a Waaagh is detected heading straight for Boonhaven, the crusade dispatches a force to hold the Southern continent with the aim to continue supplying the imperials with the much needed food.

Unfortunatley the northern continent (which houses Boonhaven's population, culture and industry) is deemed a necessary sacrifice to distract the horde whilst the Imperials entrench along the coasts of the southern continent.

Left with but the barest Garrison, the future looks bleak for Boonhaven's people.

Alright Guys, here's the paint job on the first civie (85% done).

I've also given my PDF vet's a touch up (they look better - in better photos).

I'm gonna get my mate with a decent camera and a good eye for this sorta thing over later in the week.

Hopefully have the majority of the first civie combat squad finished by then....

EDIT: Ohh, I'm thinking of a sand base, painted chaos black, dry brushed Grey, light dry brush white. Represents the ashes of their world - any other suggestions on bases that will be easy to do?

I'm unsure if I'm going to finish these guys or not, but given the agricultural nature of Boonhaven, Rough Riders seemed appropriate.

When I started these a couple of years a go I was going for a royal Canadian mounted police feel.

I've got five of these guys in total built, all at different stages of being painted.

This is looking great. That's why I love Imperial Guard you can come up with any story and make an army out of it. I like the kitbashing, and the paintjobs look great as well. I like the colors used.

I'm definatly subscribed to this one.

@ Scrazza - Thanks! Hope I won't disappoint you. I have a friend who is mildly interested in playing 40k so I might well introduce him to it via a Boonhaven Campaign.

@ KillyKaveKommando - Yeah, personal hygiene took a big drop in popularity after the Ork invasion

@ Alabamaheretic - Hopefully more will be going up on the weeked (I've already done some base coats of the unpainted guys in the background of the group shot)

Have you read Death or Glory its one of the Cain stories. It's just that Perlia's background and geography seem very similar to Boonhaven and it also consists of civilians fighting behind the lines against orks. These lads are very nicely done by the way and I'm especially liking the Maxim gunner.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

@ Llamahead: Yeah I read the Ciaphas Kane novels about 5 years ago. They partially filled the hole that George McDonald Fraser's Flashman books have permanently left me with.

I guess my subconscious may well have dredged it up.
