A "ground stop" has been issued for planes scheduled to arrive at Los Angeles International Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration said Friday. A ground stop means flights destined for the affected airport are held at their departure point, according to the FAA.

(CNN) -- Parts of Los Angeles International Airport were being evacuated Friday morning after reports of shots being fired there, police said.
Airport officials said a police incident began about 9:30 a.m. at Terminal 3 at LAX, airport spokeswoman Nancy Suey Castles said.

Passenger Robert Perez, who was getting ready to fly Virgin Air, was taking a nap in the terminal when panic erupted, he told CNN affiliate KCAL/KCBS.

"I heard a popping sound, and everybody was diving for cover," Perez told the station. "The TSA said there was a shooting in the terminal and evacuate the building."
At least 100 people came down a staircase. "Everybody started to panic," Perez said.

Fox Sports national columnist Bill Reiter was also at the airport during the gunfire. "After the initial burst of gunfire and hiding, people started jumping over one another, jumping off chairs, pushing each other. Chaos & fear," he said on his Twitter account.

The passengers were directed to board a bus and were taken to a smaller terminal, Perez told the affiliate.

The Los Angeles Fire Department is assisting with a "multi-patient" incident at Los Angeles International Airport, the department said Friday on Twitter.

Firefighters were laying down tarps on the street at the airport, which appeared to be triage tarps. Several ambulances were at the airport, and at least one person was loaded into an ambulance.

The area around the airport was jammed with cars as police shut down access to the airport Friday morning.

Of course we will have to wait to find out the details of lone crazy guy, lone wolf, terrorist test run, Alex Jones False Flag Operation, whatever.

Personally I am not really surprised though. I've told people that the eventual result of all our security theater will be that we have a large group of people, packed tightly together in an area where they cannot readily escape from, without shoes and hanging on to their pants, and that that will eventually be the next target.

Rifle case? You can carry those around at an airport. Failing that, a big bag? Honestly, an airport would be one of the easier places to get a rifle because of the nature of the beast.

Grant Imahara(of the Mythbusters) has been stuck in LAX along with Tory Belleci(they are at different terminals/areas apparently) and they both have been posting photos.

Grant just posted this, which seems to show a LAPD officer standing over the weapon used.

Longer than a handgun, so probably an AR-15 until proven otherwise...you know the drill.

Don't know.
All the photo shows is a black barrel and what looks like a bit of a black handgrip underneath the barrel.

Looks like a rifle(potentially an AR15 body as it has that kind of M16/AR15 look to it) if I had to absolutely try to identify it.

I've been watching CNN so far and they've actually not identified it.

They have talked to people on the scene where a few have said "assault rifles"(one even said an AR15), but from 12ish to now I've not heard them say "CNN has identified the weapon as an assault rifle". They've so far just used "firearm" or "weapon".

I could have missed them saying something of course as I'm taking down Halloween decorations.

And? Like I said, I've been watching CNN. As in on TV.

The phone interviews that they've been doing have been primarily saying "assault rifles". That they post "assault rifle" on the web is very different to what we're seeing on TV.

LA Times is reporting the gunman was a TSA worker, and he's dead. The person he shot is being reported as dead as well.

Sorry if you thought I was being abrasive. I was just trying to clarify.

So far the TV reporting has been very careful to use the terms "eyewitnesses" when talking about what kind of weapon was used. I guess the web is not being as careful.

It's an AR. Also, ex TSA agent shot and killed another agent and wounded 2-3 other TSA agents.

Someone apparently had a work related grievance. Maybe he got the gun in by going through an employee entrance? Do they search employee's in the TSA?
