Following on from another thread, what do you think is the best melee weapon in the game?

My personal favorite has to be the power fist, mainly because even with the power field off you can just punch people with it. IIRC this happened in Storm of Iron, one of the characters just turned off the power field, punched a sorcerer and said 'next time the power field will be on'. I've loved them ever since :3

I'll repost my melee based reply from the other thread.

I don't know about favorite melee weapon, but my least favorite is certainly the the Honor Blade...because it's equipped on Aun`Shi who is always sitting there in my special character section with a giant troll face whispering "come on, spend the points on me. You know you want to kill stuff in close combat with Tau. You can do it... just give me a devilfish and a squad of fire warriors...I can make them Stubborn..."

Never saw the point in Aun'Shi, he's just a more costly Ethereal

The common power weapon. More specifically, every one, magnetized. Swap around to as you will.

Now I think of it, what's to stop a player in a tournament from doing this and swapping out depending on the enemy he faces next? The rulebook just says 'look at the weapon' and the codex says 'weapon' not axe, sword or maul.

Also the thunder hammer cos it's stylish as hell

MURDER SWORD!!!!!

I can see it now....Nids are now a collection of autonomous hive fleets there are multiple Hive Minds and they all war with one another in addition to everyone else. They speak to humans using telepathy, and they can now ally with Space Wolves as battle brothers, because reasons.
Tyranids talking to humans would be like you talking to your mashed potatoes or the probiotic in your kiefer drink. It is neither possible nor productive.
Inside my mind I pinched my nipples and savored his bitter silence.

The Mace of Redemption. It can thrash around guys well enough while being affordable and being able to get another attack because of it's lack of specialist. Plus, It's a huge mace that doesn't suck and gets better against one army type while providing a chance to debuff the enemy through blind.

the runners up being the Mace's of absolution and the Corvus hammer. The other maces 1 shot super move makes it exciting and the corvus hammer's rend can make it a pretty good weapon.

if only independent characters could use these >>

Power fist because punching someone results in crippling them to a piece of gore splattered scrap metal.

The Power Klaw of course. Orks are behind the curve in the current meta but everyone still gets a little nervous if those Power Klaws manage to get into close combat.

Nurgle Chaos Daemon's Balesword. I know a lot of people don't run Nurgle Princes or GUOs, but I usually run both and end up slapping this thing on one of them, usually the DP due to lack of natural poison, but poison + Instant Death...on a high initiative FMC with Biomancy...there's so much I like about this.

For game rules? I'm partial to Chainfists. Gives you everything you want in a weapon apart from speed.

On pure style? The classic chainsword. It's a chainsaw! That's a sword! Totally awesome, totally stupid and totally 40k.

A set of Bonesabres. Seriously, AP 2 at initiative, always causes Instant Death and confers a 4+ invulnerable.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

Pretty much because he's the best close combat thing in Tau (well..there's farsight...but he's in a battlesuit while Aun`Shi doesn't even have a shirt on so that gets style points) and I always feel that creeping temptation to take him just so I can say I won in close combat with Tau.

Burning Blade: S+3 AP2 and Blind, and it strikes at Initiative! Sure, you have a minute chance to burn yourself, but that's for misusing the Emprah's Sword.
