Iron Hands woot woot
I am totally obsessed with heresy, and I was big time SoH but even they didn’t feel quite right for me, then I found Iron Hands and I must say I like what I have found so far. I play mostly IH and SoH, so in anticipation of some heresy stuff getting in (hopefully not too too too much longer) I wanted to start getting some grunt marines done. with that in mind I made the Iron Angels, and then I just completed the first squad of Iron Hands, I found 7 of the adaptis mechanics shoulder pad, and a few chests, and away I went. I LOVE this squad it started out as a 5 man witch I liked more because I had enough everyone got the symbol shoulder pads

So awesome I was really feeling it

This is the sergeant, I used a grey Knight terminator Halberd a buddy of mind gave me, this was truly what made this squad a worthwhile endeavor, and he started out fairly plain,

Then I thought to pin the flag, and then I pined a helmet to his back side. It’s done some times but I thought it would be cool, plus I love that half skull head and I really wanted to show off some bionics (I am major picky with bionics)

I also decided I wanted to really only use a very small amount of white throughout the squad, so he got his leg plate(scripted, something I found out I like thanks to the Iron Angels, and then the top of his helm (inspired by GW stern guard for IH.)
this was also my first real attempt at a flag design, I had been imagining what it would look like and I got the boarder but free hand is NOT my selling point so once I got the boarder I spent hours just thinking of different designs and trying to map it out in my mind, then it dawned on me, KISS keep it simple stupid, and Bam X for the tenth legion was born.

I wanted to really minimize the use of color in these guys to bring out that bleak cold steel feeling, hence only a few heads and every head has some extra metal on it. But I also wanted to use blue as my "accent color" so I opted to try and glow their eyes blue, blue PW, and some light blue wires washed to darken them a little.


But of course I didn’t do 30+ faces for space wolves not to use those skills whenever possible lol


My only real disappointment was I didn’t have more shoulder pads, and I don’t have enough transfers to put a black X on each knee cap. But other than that I am pretty happy..

Bizarre use of Necron heads and torsos...I like what you did with the legs, but the other pieces just kinda look out of place.

i just noticed, i put the sargent in front of the wrong squad, lol. well as i plan to use these guys for 30k the 20 in front are all one squad(hopefully) and the seconed apoc goes with the back guys.

when I painted the old tech marine model, I had a lot of concern about it, I had painted it before and was never happy with it, and for a little while it was a Warp smith of chaos, but I finally found him a home with the IH's and I couldn’t be happier with how he came out. Nothing flashy I know but I really like it.

I painted up the tester model and it was black with the white trim and copper rim. I was done and he looked fine...then "IT" happened the thing that happens when you have been doing this for over a decade, where you look at a model with lots of flat space and think...there has to be more just waiting for me but what.
Me and Blue have a long term relationship I have more blues than any other color and if you were too look thru my whole history you would see a lot of blue work ever where.
and I looked at what others did with their hands, and a lot was very good I came on here and looks at my fellow hands work, and my own IH work and it just needed something new something that I had never seen done and then it hit me, " I am going to paint MF blue flames on this thing....it’s going to be bad ass!" after I explained why I was cussing at my toys to my wife I sat down and started, the gauntlet was first and it was solid then I ran into another problem, with the bolter in both arm guys it’s hard to see...crap now its lost some of its "pop"...well to hell with it if you going to go, go big, so I added it to the leg section and there it was it was something I had never seen before something I could justify being there, and something I was able to do well. then I got to the guy with the communicator(who is my Villa guy that re rolls failed leadership, I know it’s not the right equipment for it but that’s who he is to me lol) and I wanted something more sense he was my only no helm guy, so I added them to his chest(he had a nice wide open spot on center chest so it fit. then my wife challenged me, what are you going to do for your sergeant...crap well I remembered seeing Angrons armor and the WE bronze thing before and thinking that looked all right and I need something different for Artificer Armor anyways so bronze and silver it is, but I need something to tie in the flames, well I am going to give him a PF anyways I might as well put big flames on it, then came the bolter...well I was going to do it white but decided that in keeping with the same but different approach I decided to make it black to match the squad and add red flames cause he's a boss, you can’t see it but the other side of the bolter has them as well and better in my opinion ( I need a back side sarg pic anyways)

OK, so I haven’t updated in a while it’s been hectic and I haven’t gotten as much as I hoped to get done. I do how ever have some more stuff to post soon, a 5 man of red scorpions, the new "Ronin" bikers, and I have Abaddon just about finished. And some here and there’s that I will try to get posted.

after working on the base of Manus i "for the hell of it" painted the face plate white, and it was so striking stood out so much that i tryed a tester and did and half white half black face plate on one of my troopers here, then i did the whole face white and i knew it would be the way to go for this armor. they remind me of Casy Jones from TMNT or like a jester from medevil times.

Great work so far mate - particularly like the primarchs, with Vulkan being top job - the flames are amazing, i've been used to see high contrast between the reds and yellows, but your is pleasantly desaturated.

also the brass looks good on that one, is it the standard way of painting with GW paints, or something difficult?

i've been working on my death guard and there's a lot of brass, been using the way described in Forgeworld's painting guide and quite happy with the results, but i've seen other amazing ones online and would be nice to know what other options are out there - most probably i won't change it for the DG, but if other army will need it ... it'll be on my radar

Thank you so much for the kind words. the brass was Gw's paint thinned down with a few sades of black, and standerad highlights, i used gold to highlight alot of the brass(bright yellow gold)

Vulkin was a...challage i would say, not because the models hard, but because i chose to use very little painting and ALOT of washing to give a muted color. i do not like the bright vibratent colored vulkins.

i have more negitive comments then positive but i like the muted look better. THANKS FOR VEIWS.
