Infinity.
It seems interesting to me, I saw some pictures online and it piqued my interest.
So.
I've ordered the rule book and the sourcebook.
I'm interested in Aleph, mainly on the strength of one model, the Amazonian Warrioress on the bike.
What other stuff do I need?
I assume I'll need the starter box, which is out of stock at the Warstore (my go-to store)
Anything else I should be looking at?

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

Well welcome to Infinity (lots of new players these days)

See if maybe http://www.miniaturemarket.com/table-top-miniatures/infinity.html has them in stock and is of an acceptable price for you.

I would go for the Steel Phalanx starter and a box of Myrmidons to start off. If you want to stick to Vanilla Aleph then just use the standard starter and grab some Myrmidons when you can.

If you don't want to go with the Steel Phalanx, you could hold out for the starter box, but you could also just start with the models you like and going from there. If you like Penthes-Ican'tspellhername... Amazon Warrior Biker Chick, (Penny), then go pick her up first!

When you get started playing, you'll need someone to be a Lieutenant in your force, but other then limits on what units you can take, you have plenty of options.

Also, welcome to Infinity!

I believe you came up with the official name for her CC - Penthouse!

She is actually very effective on the tabletop as well as being a beautiful miniature - kicked my ass last time I went up against her anyway!

Someone else came up with Penny, and then immediately said nobody should try and call her that.

I shall stick to Penthouse!

I like Penny quite a bit actually. It just suits her so well as something everyone would call her but no one would dare call her to her face.

It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

I'll have a read of the books before I buy anything else, I'll probably get the starter box and the steel phalanx box when Neal gets them in stock.
I'm not using ebay at the moment, as anything I buy appears on my wife's iPad.
Until I can get my hands on it and get rid of the app, I'll be shopping elsewhere
I don't want the "why are you buying more stuff, you've not got the stuff you have painted yet" conversation again....

That's the model that got me into Infinity (and yet I still haven't bought it...) and ALEPH. I agree with the advice to just go with the models you like first. You can worry about what would be most effective later.

Welcome to the game! Keep a tight reign on your wallet or all the beautiful models will run off with it!

My plan, as far as painting goes, is to borrow heavily from Bubblegum Crisis.

Well I've had a read of the downloaded rules, and I've made a follow up order.

I've ordered the starter set, the steel phalanx, and the support pack.
Along with Penny the biker, I sould be able to make something usable out of that.

If you're wanting to play ALEPH "in general"--then the starter box works great.

If you're wanting Steel Phalanx, then ignore the ALEPH starter box. Nothing within it can be used by Steel Phalanx.

I have a bit of a compulsion to collect stuff when I get into a game.

I will probably get everything for the faction, then I can pick and choose what kind of force to play on a game by game basis.

Then I'll probably start another faction........

I can't remember who said it but it goes.. Get 10 models and have an army, get 20 models and have a 100 armies. or something like that.

So I am of the same logic, I like to collect them up and have options to play with.

Fair enough but it's important to realize that in regards to Infinity the various Sectorials might as well be entirely different factions.

They have different units available to them in different numbers and some actually have different options/points costs entirely.

I think that's what a lot of people I do. I've probably got a pool of 4-500pts (one with more) of the factions I collect. Let's you dip into each one and swap around forces between games.

There is some cross-over with the sectorial - issue I have is that I have painted my sectorials in a different scheme to the core force, so they absolutely wouldn't been seen dead on a tabletop together

Well the first shipment arrived today.
And another order went in.....

So far Penny is assembled and undercoated.
I have to say I'm impressed with the quality of the model.
It went together very well with minimal flash and mould slip.
I'll start painting tomorrow.
So far my plan is to follow the paint scheme of Priss from Bubblegum Crisis, Blue, with red accents and a red bike.

This is my attitude with any game I play. I start with an army I want and buy it. Then just constantly, randomly add models to the collection so every game I can change up what I bring.

The best thing about Infinity is it makes it so easy to do this. Models are cheap because most are bought individually or at worst in small boxes. Impulse buying every couple of weeks doesn't break the hobby budget. And on top of that, everything is viable in game and significantly changes how your army plays.

Well here is the first coat, airbrushed on.

Now I've seen the photo, it seems I've missed a mould line at her waist, so I'll fix that before I paint it.
Penny's armour will be blue with red trim, The sword, I'm thinking blue fading to grey.

It's a little darker in reality, the lamp on my painting desk washed out the colour a little, I didn't bother to set up my light booth to take the picture.
