Hey guys,
I can't decide between Imperial Fists and Dark Angels. Both have their Pro's and Cons in appearance, rules and background Buuuuut I just cannot settle on one, so I thought I'd put it to you !

Of these 2, which do you prefer and why ? Whatever your reason, i'm interested to see.

I like them both but with the DV set having DA you can pick up a fair amount cheaply.

If money and painting yellow is no issue then Imperial Fists all the way! You don't see a lot of them.

Imperial fists all the way. Big, yellow and they're too stubborn to quit. What's not to love?

They also had the walking tank before it was cool.

Imperial Fists are stubborn, loyal, hard as nails, never surrender marines.

Dark Angels have been sulking for 10k years.

‘Fists lend them selves more to TAC lists, while DAs tend to be more gimmicky. Which is the actual reason I voted for the boys in yellow.

Oddly enough, DA have stubborn but IF do not.

I'm almost done with an Imperial Fists army myself. I don't have any input as far as playing the game goes, never played a game with either army yet.

But yellow is really not that bad to paint… You just have to layer it and be a decent painter. If you're going to do a one coat job that looks IMO poor, dark angels green covers better.

If I were you, I might go with DA just from a cost standpoint because DV is such a great value for what you're getting.

Depends on what you're looking for i guess.

If your looking for a chapter who fights like zealots to redeem themselves in their eyes and the emperors, go dark angels. If your looking for a chapter who fight to the last, will never surrender, who value brotherhood above all else, go Imperial fists. I prefer Imperial Fists, just because I love all of their successor chapters.

When in doubt, throw more men at it!

Fists all the way, and if you can't paint yellow just pick a successor chapter and run with it

I like the Imperial fists for their chapter tactic and love of siege craft. The Dark Angels love bikes and terminators. I like terminators, not so much bikes. I also like the Black Templars who are best buddies with the Fists.
Pretty much the reasons I picked them over Templars and Dark Angels.

My buddy has a massive DA army that he occasionally runs as Imp. Fists. Successor Chapter "Invaders" happen to have a shockingly similar paint scheme to DA.
Best of both worlds.

I love my Imperial fists, just hate painting yellow, so many layers.., but I am getting better at it. I just started a ravenwing bike army. so why not both If you want a general army with lots of flexability, Imperial fists can do just about everything and every build. their chapter tactic is "always on" Also, Lysander is a beast in combat. Not learned much on how to play DA yet. but my vote is Imperial Fists

Imperial fists are easily converted into Angry Marines, and are thus automatically superior.

Except, they wouldn't fit with the IF rules, so not so "easily" converted.

My secret fortress at the base of the volcano!

I voted for Dark Angels, not because I like them (I don't) but because yellow is a screaming pain in the hoop to paint. I tried to paint an Imperial Fist model once. It did not go well. I would not wish that pain on another human being, so I urge you to play Dark Angels instead.

Fluff describes AM as dual wielding chainswords instead of the standard bolt pistol/chainsword combo, so he couldn't be an angry marine.

Thin your paints BTW.

Bright green..?

Collect Sons of Dorn, they're an IF successor that's black and bronze and they literally hate the Ultramarines so much it's hilarious. They are nemeses with the Word Bearers purely due to the fact the Ultramarines hate them too, and they're out to eradicate the WB to prove that the Fists are superior to the Ultras

Why not both.

There is the invaders route which is a bit off

or the Angels of Vigilance which are nearly the same yellow.

On moon miranda.

Dark Angels are a specialist force. If you want to run bikes and/or termi's and focus heavily on them, go with the Dark Angels.

If yo want to run a more generalist force, or especially if you want to run Tac/Dev heavy, go with the Imperial Fists.

Dark Angels.

I think they got better background. The fallen, Cypher, Luther, the Inner Circle... And they are the First Legion.

IF are cool too, but not that much.

Paint up your own chapter then you can always switch between the two as a sucessor.

I currently run my marines as an Imperial fists army but am building up bikes to also be able to run as a Scars successor.

Why anyone would copy a GW chapter exactly is beyond me.

Because they like the colour scheme, characters and pre-established background?
Because they like the legion?
Because they have a cool name?

Imperial Fists...almost as hard as IG, because they hold the ground Stubborn, hard, their yellow is cool.

Dark Angels are half-traitors, they ore obsessed with the fact they are half-traitors and have tendency to leave allien in the middle of battle just because there is some guy who can prove they are half-traitors

OK, one thing speaks for Dark Angels, those robes are IMO really nice.

I prefer Dark Angels, they feel more grimdark to me; they take things like interrogation and redemption seriously.
Also white robes over dark green armor just looks awesome.

But some of the successors of the Imperial Fists are great too.
Tough call.
