This is a photo of Arielle Lipsen (a good friend of mine) who was thrown to the ground and hit with the butt of a DEA agent’s rifle. She is now wrongfully being charged with assaulting a federal agent during a DEA raid of her sister’s smoke shop in Texas. Her sister gave the following statement to a local news site:

“She was having a conversation with a female agent, and trying to give the agents the lock code,” Ilana Lipsen claimed. “She was trying to tell them there was no key, but a code. There were too many officers and about half of them were doing nothing, then this one agent charged at her, threw her, kicked her legs out from under her, and when she was falling, her leg brushed up against his leg. That’s when he said ‘you’re trying to beat a federal agent’ and shoved the butt of his rifle into her neck.” (via BigBendNow)

Arielle reached out to me last night asking if I could help get eyes on her story because not only is she being wrongly accused, but her bond restrictions are insane. She said: "Part of the bond restrictions is that my sister retract all her statements from the press and say that I was never assaulted and that she lied."

She asked me if I could get people’s eyes on this story. This is a thing to scream about. There’s no reason for a federal agent to put his hands on an unarmed, unthreatening citizen. Not only was she assaulted (LOOK AT THAT PHOTO) but now they might actually send her to jail.

Not sure what to think of this. Certainly sounds awful, but not sure if I can believe it out right. Has anyone heard of bond restrictions like this before?

I've seen enough people fight and resist while yelling "I'm not doing anything" to take this with a heavy pinch of salt.

My guess is that both sides contributed to feth up this situation.

Yeah, something about this story just doesn't sound quite right.

There’s been more than enough cases of a police officer trying to press resisting arrest or assaulting an officer charges, only for video on a camera phone (or even officer’s lapel cameras) to show the officer beating hell out of a person who did nothing but take the beating. So on that hand you’d think there’s some measure of believability to her story.

On the other hand, there’s no shortage of stories of police brutality that really are nothing more than total bs. And the story as given sounds pretty unbelievable. But it’s pretty common for a person to make embellish a story to the point where it’s unbelievable, even though the actual facts of the matter were enough for them to make their case.

My guess is that we’ll never know what actually happened, and either all claims against everyone will be dropped, or the lady will plea down to something pretty minor.

I truly think that the first person to bring up anti-semitism either loses the argument immediately or never had a valid point of view . It seems like in the last few years anytime some one disagrees with a Jew it is an anti-semite OT, but it really grinds my gears.

yea I think "everyone's lying" is probably appropriate here. That still means the fedserales need to be disciplined. You don't butt stroke a woman with a rifle. Frankly the word "rifle" should not be in any other part of the previous sentence.

We'll never know if the feds beat up on her, but it's clear beyond the shadow of a doubt that those bond conditions are ludicrous and I suspect constitutionally dubious under the 8th amendment.

This seems to me clearly unconstitutional: It’s an order compelling speech, on threat of imprisonment, which would itself normally be a First Amendment violation; but on top of that, it was issued without a trial, and thus without any final factual findings supporting its validity.

The agent F'ed up good there.

Will advise news paper that a warrant was not executed at her business because she was Jewish, owned Arabian horses, is of Turkish descent or because she visited Chinese websites.

Given that one of the first thing she did was claim it was anti-Semitic, I don't really care that this was part of the terms.
