My question is just as typed in the subject. Seems like a bargain to get a Str 9, AP 3 large template shooting attack for only 20 points, but I don't see them added to any of the AM lists. Is there something that I'm missing that makes him sucktastic?

Mostly, just a lack of points; most IG lists can easily find something, or multiple somethings, worth 20 points. That's 4 flamers, or two meltas, or a Lascannon. These things are generally more generally useful than a MOO.
That said, the MOO is good on his own merits, it is a dirt cheap if inaccurate Large Blast, so there's no reason not to take one if you want to.

I take him with mine all the time. For 20 pts, over the course of a game he easily makes his points back. Just make sure you don't get ur CCS assassinated early on xD

He's an auto include in my Command Squads and also the bane of my friends existence. It's unbelievable the amount of damage he puts out for only 20 points. Especially against an army like tau, or imperial guard your pretty much always going to hit at least something

I think he is a great addition to an immobile CCS. The problem being that Yarrick is in general better at the entire gunline thing than a CCS is.
Still pretty good.

Tonight my MOO took out a whole squad of wraithguard plus a few jetbikes and put a wound on a wraithknight.
That was worth 20 points for me.

He was auto take for me in 6th, since it was relatively easy to hit and penetrate vehicles (especially since my MOO had a good habit of rolling 6 on the pen table).
He's just hard to hit with, but is a good buy in larger games where he's likely to always hit something.

I think in the past, when Area Cover was still a thing, MOO had less of a presence. I'd be surprised if I didn't see him more, now that it's harder to get cover. AP3 is just nasty.

Its not that there isn't any love for the MoO, its that there is no love for the CCS. Why would I take that when I can have a Paskisher? Everyone has found their own Paskisher in AM, if you havn't and you want to go oldschool with the CCS then the MoO is unofficially mandatory. I don't know about the representation-of-CCS-in-forums ratio to actual use, but its more fun to talk about the Paskishers of AM rather than the CCS of IG.

Resin Printer (minaitures) is a 4K printer with one of the largest build volumes available for a resin printer (192mm x 120mm x 245mm) with an amazing .01mm resolution! This professional printer is one of the best resin printers on the market!
FDM Printer (terrain) also has one of the largest build volumes available for an FDM printer (400mm x 400mm x 450mm) and has an amazing ,05mm build accuracy.

I started running him in a sniper CCS recently and the psychological effect of an incoming s9 ap3 large blast that is potentially ignores cover has made him worth it for the board control alone.
Basically you're forcing the enemy to shoot at a 20 pt t3 model with a 3+ cover save (cloaks, ruins) instead of what matters, or hes shooting at what matters while constantly keeping his forces spread (read: vulnerable to your shooting) in order to avoid the aforementioned blast.

I only ever field CCS. Paskisher is too pricey and has no range, Lord Commisar costs more than a CCS and doesn't even have orders! Two orders per turn to my dug in vet units for 60 points, yes please!

Barrage ignores intervening cover between the MoO and the target. Only cover between the centre hole and the model matters.

Also, "fire on my target" confers ignore cover to MOO if you order the CCS.

I love my MoO, I put him in a lot of lists I run but I've found he really shines if you have other barrages in your army already.
Had a pretty nasty artillery list I ran with earthshakers, wyverns, and a defense oriented CCS with a MoO. It's a gimick-y list but it's hella fun.

There is just no need when it will be ignoring cover most of the time anyway. Waste of a senior order.

Does anyone know if the old trick of putting a mortar team in the CCS+MoO still works? looked through the rules, and it seems to me that you would still roll the scatter of the Mortar first, with the -4" due to their ballistic skill, and then follow the rules for multiple barrages with the MoO's shot, thus eliminating most scatter.
|
Universal rule 1:
The dice WILL roll ones on the critical rolls.
Universal rule 2:
If no one is rolled on the critical rolls, the dice are storing them for an even more critical roll.
Universal Rule 3:
NEVER Feel safe. The ones are watching and waiting. Always. |

How's that even possible? I'm pretty sure you roll for scatter differently still.

Ignore my Previous, just re-read the AM codex entry, and it specifically states that the MoO is fired seperately from other Barrage weapons

MoOs, were decent, but a little flakey before. Now, even at their reduced cost, they're pretty crummy.
Before, you could take that super-inaccurate shot and give it twin-linking with orders, which meant it actually had a pretty decent chance to hit a vehicle. But that order's gone. And then they made the vehicle damage table worse for the MoO, so now it does less damage against what was its best target type.
Now, it's more like you spend a few points for the chance that a basilisk shell lands on something circa once per game. Ho hum. Given the fact that it immobilizes the CCS, and isn't going work well with mech lists, and it boils down to what it really is: a somewhat cheap upgrade that might do something if you're lucky, but only if you're running a foot gunline, and haven't already maxed lascannons.
When you get to that point, I'm sure there's a lot of love for the MoO, but you're already talking about a pretty narrow set of circumstances where you're going to want to go out of your way to field one.

I sometimes wish we had something more accurate for IG CCS staff, like an Air Liaison Officer that does precision airstrikes similar to the MoO bombardment.

I know we don't have very decent control of the psyker phase but with cheap astropaths and primaris psykers it is still possible to twin link the CCS and still save that previously used senior order.

Played my MOO in two games yesterday, each player had 750 points.
IG/IG vs 'Nids/Chaos
- he killed about 5 hormagaunts,
IG/Sisters vs Tau/Tau
- killed two allied Sisters of Battle and wrecked my ally's immolator.
Lesson learned, he's not real great in danger-close situations.
