Gathering the Informations.

Today, EA revealed EA Access, an Xbox One-exclusive subscription service that grants players access to EA's so-called Vault.

Subscribing to EA Access will cost $4.99 a month (or $29.99 a year), and since the program is technically in beta, only four games will initially be available: FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Peggle 2, and Battlefield 4, "with more titles being added soon."

Additionally, EA Access will also net subscribers 10 percent discounts on all EA digital content, which includes full games and DLC, as well as access to trials of new EA games nearly a week before they come out (with saves that copy over to the final game, should you choose to purchase it later). Games that will be eligible for early access and save copy-over are Madden NFL 15, NHL 15, FIFA 15, NBA Live 15, and Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Memberships can be purchased on Xbox Live, and will also be available at retail stores like GameStop and online destinations like Amazon. The subscription service will launch "soon," according to EA, and will be available in North America and Europe.

We'll have more on EA Access as soon as it launches.

So pay a monthly sub to EA, on top of Gold, to get discounts on EA games?

Oh feth off EA...

The main selling point seems to be subscription-based access to the games in their "Vault", with the discount being a bonus.

Not that it'd convince me - but I can see how some people would be tempted by such an offer. I suppose it depends on what other games they add to this "Vault".

Pay $30 for a year, in addition to Gold, and get access to games with a discount on DLCs.

The caveat is that it is up to Microsoft what content you'll have access to in terms of the game. Some will be "trial versions" while others will be the full game with nothing restricted/locked out.

Another reason to not buy an xbone.

So this is like Playstation Plus... only for EA games... on the Xbone.

Playstation Plus is already awkward to justify on top of paying your ISP. No wonder this this isn't available on the Playstation. Sony would have none of it.

Sony doesn't like double dipping their customers. Microsoft didn't care up until recently (for things like Netflixx). I guess they don't care again. In either case, the XBOne remains a lying failure machine, so who cares?

To be fair, it's not that PS4 is superior in this regard. It's the system that is not getting this "service". It's just that it's nice that Sony doesn't want to put up with EA's triple-dipping superfluous "service".

And then all start flaming on those infidels buying an XBone, yeah.

I see no problem with this at all. $5 per month to acces several top quality games? Sounds like a good deal to me.

The article I saw about it was titled "New EA subscription service lets you pay for games forever instead of just once".

How long before this becomes mandatory to play EA games?

Like their stupid sign up thing that you needed to do a few years ago.

PlayStation 4 is looking better all the time.

That's not a reason. How this should of been phrased is "Another reason to hate EA"

I don't see what's wrong with this to be honest. It's not mandatory to use the service, it's optional. 5$ is a very low amount of money. The games aren't worth writing home about (yet?), though.

You know that it is an option on the Xbone, not mandatory, nor was it developed or marketed by MS.

For now.

Subscription services in order to access more content are not my idea of a fun time. Especially given that we're talking about Microsoft, a company that would love to turn every single feature in to an add-on to their subscription services.

Yeah, but it's for X1. It's compulsorary for all the cool kids on Dakka to hate on it because of that.

As my full quote says, I'm just wondering how long it will take before it becomes mandatory? EA might even decide that they want to hold content back from regular customers if they don't want to sign up for this service.

If I don't like the direction that a console appears to be going in why wouldn't the other option look better?

Actually we are talking about both. Microsoft has allowed this to happen on their console.

It's a no-problem. Vote with your wallet. Period. EA is already fully committing to cutting out parts of games and charging extra for it and people like it. Not EA's fault, it's the fault of people buying it.

If it were purely MS then it would be on 360 and Xbone, but the system at this point is more incidental to the fact that EA created and marketed this feature. Blaming MS is missing the forest for the trees.

And this is why Sony doesn't want EA filth on their console:

Let's not pretend that they are doing it for the benefit of their customers though.

They're doing it to protect their nascent Playstation Now service.
