What do you think is the most powerful model in Warhammer 40k tabletop? Here are the rules:
- 1 model, not the whole squad.
- No super-heavy, gargantuan.
- No named character.
- 1 vs 1. Flying off the board means death.
Any pick? What I can think of are Daemon Prince with Murder Sword, Swarmlord and fully upgraded Dreadknight.

Uh...doesn't the Swarmlord count as a unique (and therefore effectively named) character? Personally I would have say either what Iron_Captain said or a Flyrant with Dual-Brainleech Devourers. The Tyrant has the mobility to evade and shoot the absolute bajeezus out of any opposing force and comes stock as a lvl2 psyker meaning he has psychic defense and offence depending on what he rolls for his powers. Not to mention his actual utility within his own list thanks to him providing a mobile synapse bubble. Honourable mention go to the Lucky Stikk MA Warboss given how great he is in soaking up wounds and dishing out damage for his cost as well as the SW Wolf Lord build.

Captain Smash-Whatever on Bike is top notch. Seriously, you get a one-shot S10 AP1 Large Blast that you can fire BEFORE YOU ASSAULT thanks to the bike.
So lulz to anything that can't survive orbital bombardment BEFORE you get into assault. Which you will. Oh, and a White Scars version in which you break off, shoot your gun, and then charge for a bonus attack on subsequent rounds.
Iron Hands / White Scars versions are both brutal for their own reasons.
Flying, Shooty MCs are arguably the most versatile since smash-face can't charge them, and they just fly in a circle shooting him until he dies, but that's about it.

Nurgle Daemon Prince with black mace, who rolled Iron Arm and Endurance, Enfeeble or Warp Speed.
With these, I've killed mobs of 45 orks with Ghazzy, 2 powerclaw nobs and 2 painboys (including the Independent character one), Dreadknights, Chapter Master Smash and even Horus once!
It does require that you roll Iron Arm, but when you do he's unbeatable (especially with Grimoire cast on him): tons of attacks at WS and S 9, I and T 8, with 5++/3++, FnP (4+).
He'll kill anything, and then refuse to die to most ennemies.

Jetseer can stalemate Smash until doomsday with the 36" turbo-boost move and 2+ jink but it'd take a long, long time to kill him (shoot with the Uldanorethi Long Rifle whenever you're at least 24" away). A Telepathy Daemon Prince can wear him down with Shriek (sixteen turns worth to actually drop him, but he'd need sixty turns to kill the Daemon Prince with the bolters so the Daemon Prince is coming out ahead), the Flyrant can actually drop Smash in the length of a normal game (about five turns) so in that matchup I think we know who wins.

the new Transcendent C'tan?
EW,fearless any unit charging at him is charging through difficult terrain, his shooting, while random, does have a sD weapon and all the others the lowest S is 6 with three of those being 7,8,and 9
His own stats are solid too being a MC ap2 on 4 attacks S8 with ws5 he is still hitting on 3's being t7 makes him more difficult to wound but only has a 4+/4++ but W5
(The T'Ctan is no longer unique or a gargant, or named)

Lord of Change w/Lv3 Divination + Staff of Change + 2x Greater Rewards.
If he rolls up Precognition and lands either (or god forbid both!) of Corpulescence and Daemonic Resiliance he's pretty much as close to 'unkillable' as you can get outside of the silly re-rolling 2++ saves...
With 3 rolls on Div, he still lands a really solid shot at landing Forewarning as well, allowing him to gain a 4++/re-roll 1's.
I once rolled up all 3 of those powers/Gifts against a friend's Ork army, and suffice to say, it was a pointless game... Between the additional wound coupled with IWnD [I[and[/I] FnP 4+, and Precog's 're-roll everything', my super chicken solo'ed nearly his entire army across 5 turns.
His kill total that game was something silly like 8 Biker Nobz plus Warboss & Painboy, 10 Flash Gits, 15 Lootas and a mob of 30 boyz.

Chapter Master Smashfether is the overall and consistently strongest individual combat model, per the OP's criterion.
But psykers can ultimately have a greater impact on the game. The Lord of Changed mentioned in the post above me is a good example - if you roll the right combination of powers and rewards, he can be much more monstrous than Smashfether. There are also many models who can trounce Smashfether using special rules and/or wargear (e.g., a Necron Overlord with MSS, or a flying MC who just kites him the entire game, or an Jetbike Autarch with a reaper launcher kiting him).

Its sad but mostly true.
That guy is insane, and whats even worse is that you can actually run 2 of him. You can also run multiple additional versions who don't have EW and just the normal TH/ SS combo.

A brand new Decurion Barge Lord.
Catacomb Command Barge + Voidreaper + Resurrection Orb + Phase Shifter + Phylactery + Mindshackle Scarabs + Tachyon Arrow
3+/4++/4+++ (re-roll 1s and single use complete re-roll)/5++++ IWND (the 3+ armour doesn't matter, since everything it fight in this context is going to be AP2 anyway)
Fear on 3d6
Single use S10 AP1 shot
Fleshbane, and Master Crafted
Shooting beforehand, plus HoW, and ignores Shaken and Stunned, and the barge gets to regain 1 hull point per turn on a 5+ and another hull point per turn on a 6+.
I bet the Lord would beat the Smashfether with contemptuous ease. Someone do a batrep for us!
Actually, a foot Overlord or Destroyer Lord might do better, because then the Barge can't get blown up and the Lord is much tougher.

Won't the Smashfether just kill the Barge and avoid all those nasty saves and make you go straight to RP?

It really depends on your target. For example, if you're facing off against anything with no Eternal Warrior, Draigo will wreck it. I don't believe any other single character can't approach a bunch of Str 9 Ap2 Force attacks. It's only against other Eternal Warriors that Abbadon and the Bike Chapter Master and a few others get a small edge.

Strongest CC model still has bad matchups; Smash is a Flyrant. Or a Vulture, it's dropping him in 3.4 turns and has Vector Dancer to keep him in front of it.

So is anyone able to calculate Be'lakor vs. Smashfether in a 1v1 fight?
Neither should have the charge, and Be'lakors average chance to go invisible should be included ( but if it's too much trouble I´m fine hearing the outcome with automatic invisibility. ) Initiative order should ofcourse count.
Would be interesting to know.

Be'lakor is definitely an overall better model (even when considering the points difference), but as per the OP's criterion, no named characters
RunicFIN wrote:So is anyone able to calculate Be'lakor vs. Smashfether in a 1v1 fight?
Not counting psychic powers or mastercrafted, Be'Lakor inflicts on average 1.11 wounds on the charge round, and 0.93 on subsequent rounds. The chapter master inflicts on average 1.04 wounds on the charge, and 0.83 on subsequent rounds. Both models have 4W, and Be'lakor will always go first on at least the first round (and on any subsequent turns where he avoided a wound from the thunder hammer), so Be'lakor has the advantage purely on the grounds of combat prowess.
Once you factor in Be'lakor's psychic powers, there really is no contest. If we assume a turn of shooting/psychic phase before close combat begins, Be'lakor has a decent chance knocking off a wound or two with Psychic Shriek. With invisibility, he is effectively 3 times as durable.
(Also worth pointing out: the CM out- DPS's equivalently costed Daemon Princes, due in large part to their inferior 5++).
