I'm cautious about 9th. Im hoping it is something I can really get behind but if it means portions of my Empire and Night Goblin armies become obsolete it's gonna be hard.

As long as 9th is fun, I think the change will be for the best.

Not as such, a lot of companies and authors go to events (shows/tournaments) though and ask people about the hobby.

Don't forgeworld events and games-day (warhammer day?) also have similar parts? I don't know I've never been to one.

I don't like the idea of random stuff occurring in the skirmish game because a wider battle is raging on all sides.

Hopefully there will be modes of play that omit those random events.

I'm looking forward to the skirmish game! Im hoping my Empire become even more wacky and grim dark too

New unit which will basically be good warriors if chaos. sigmars super troops. expect them to be pretty good infantry

I'm not really looking forward to the fantasy space marines all that much. I am more anticipating what the regular humans will become. Hopefully something weird and wacky. Flying renaissance windmills or something :p

I am a fan of how every unit in WHFB played differently because of all the special rules. If the game is downsizing and switching to skirmish then it doesn't need to be streamlined in my opinion.

1500 points army is a "skirmish" game ? Riiiiiight ....
I thought skirmish was about a dozen miniatures like mordheim/Necromunda.

I hope this " 1500pts skirmish" is not what was supposed to be the "warhammer skirmish" release we heard about.

Haha yes, I was thinking this. We play 1250pts at my local GW and it definitely feels like a 'battle' with the numerous regiments and characters.

I think 600 points and under would be a good size for a skimirsh level. I'm not looking for 10 a side Mordheim, but instead 20-30 men including cavalry and a warmachine in the mix.

We were having this conversation in my local GW recently. If everything was going to round bases, would cavalry be on bike bases or 40mm.

Cavalry on the oval bases looks sooooooooooooooo good! I can't wait!

Maybe War Of The Ring style movement trays (inserts) or maybe we won't need movement trays at all? :-)

That's me. I can't wait for GW to release packs of the oval bases so I can buy them and rebase all my cavalry!

Haha, no deadly serious.

Those oval bases look great so I really hope they become part of 9th. I've been eyeing up my cavalry on my one Skitarii oval base all day.

Do you mean these bases? http://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Citadel-70x25mm-Oval-Bases
Because they have been around ever since the new scout biker models two Space Marine Codexes ago.

No, they are just bike bases. I mean the 70mm oval bases as shown in the picture before, used by the Skitarii snipers and the Broodlord from the Tyranid vs blood angel starter. I don't think they are sold seperately, but even if they are I'll wait for official confirmation of thier use in 9th before I rebase everything, as enthusiastic as I am.

Why not just cut any form you want from thick plastic sheet, lasercut 3mm MDF, make silicon moulds and cast your own bases in epoxy, PU or god-damn candlewax...?

I feel our GW overlords would disapprove of this deviancy.

Don't know why people are taking cheap shots at someone for saying they prefer WHFB to other systems. Whatever

I didn't see anyone taking cheap shots at WHFB fans, I think it was the remark "But there are ways around that, IF you know how," which is equivalent to "L2P noob," that doesn't help that argument for why WHFB would be better than KoW.

He made it pretty clear it was just his opinion. It's not really a "L2P" line as he was just stating that hordes don't bother him. Still seems to me like a number of other users couldn't resist to roll more dirt of WHFB.

Anyway, I don't want to derail the thread. I'm getting very excited for 9th now. I hope it's going to be really fun! I'm looking forward to embracing all the changes :-)

In my local GW some of the regulars seemed mostly bummed out by the 9th rumors. Shame because I am all excited for them! The only thing that's crucial to me is IF they are introducing circle bases for skirmish I hope circle bases are also compatible for mass battles (i.e. Movement trays with slots)

Arch Magos w/ 4 Meg of RAM

You guys must have sucky local GWs. In ours they talk about the rumors with the regulars, drop hints with things like when "red days" are.

The managers all get to go to some summer conference soon where they'll get to see the entire summer release early.

So, full scale game uses square and skirmish uses round??

Can Skirmish use square though? Having two games that use the same models but on different bases seems like the stupidest idea ever.... Say im new and decide to start playing Warhammer, I start out small skirmish and base everything on round, but then as my army grows I want to play large scale.... am I screwed or am I re-basing? Im 100% fine on going all round and re-basing what I currently have but my OCD is not going to allow for a mix of round and square.

I'm hoping the mass battle will use circle bases like this:

But who knows yet for sure?

Alot of MDF companies already make movement trays like that. Sarissa Precision and Litko off the top of my head.

Exactly. I already bought slotted MDF trays for my skirmishers in 8th.

Plus if you don't like the slotted trays, you can just make a flat base of the same size and have all the miniatures on top "loose". I have seen lots of War Of The Ring armies take that approach too.

The six factions thing is odd because it goes against what GW has done with 40k which has been to make more and more factions (and to break existing factions into multiple books).

Now, obviously they could be trying a totally different approach to WHFB. But if we were to speculate from 40k it seems likely that the "six factions" may just be a way of making allies much more an integral part of Fantasy, and we can still expect a multitude of different books for each race, but under a wider banner (such as Warhammer Armies: Order - Army Book Empire).

6 factions doesn't necessarily mean 6 books. How many Imperial books are there for 40K? They might just provide a 'Man' army book with expansions for 14 Dwarf clans, and so on.

Yes. That's what I was saying.

Yeah, I'm hoping the skirmish game will be around 20-40 models a side, rather than the 10 of mordhiem.

Also hoping for all races to be represented and for some monsters, war machines and cavalry to be useable.

I'm really excited for 9th, but the only thing that worries me is: right now I'm on hold with all my Warhammer painting, modelling and army building because everything is so up in the air.

I'm worried that after this new "Age of Sigmar" drops everything will STILL be just as up in the air as GW won't say if this is 9th, or a new mini-skirmish game (perhaps even with limited support).

For example, I'm not going to embrace circle bases (even though I am a big fan of them) if it's just for this one game and later on a square base fantasy will be released.

Problem is you know GW are going to be silent on the whole issue... Oh well, time to collect AdMech while I wait for the dust to settle.

Maybe we're getting more fantasy superheavies, factions broken into to multiple army books and allies gone made.

Oh and a fantasy version of formations and dataslates.

Was browsing the throne of skulls guide and noticed 5 "factions" they have listed. I wonder if it could have anything to do with the Age of Sigmar rumoured 6:

The Dark Gods

Defenders of the Old World

The Ravening Hordes

The Undead Legions

The Last of the Ancients

And then the 6th being the Sigmarines?

All of the current range could fall into these factions, but we'll slowly see them phased out as the more wacky and weird are brought in.

What do you think?
Made in gb
Arch Magos w/ 4 Meg of RAM

Yeah I just used the name "Sigmarines" because I find it funny.

I'm expecting orders of towering elite badass Knights probably all on 40mm round bases :-D
