Hi Guys,

Everybody keep telling me that SM is the number 1 played army, how ever, with my experience and from what I can see on Dakka Dakka Forums, Necrons and Eldars seems to be more popular.

For statistic purpose, what do you field?

Space Marines are by far the most popular army. But in competitive play people tend towards the armies that give an advantage. Right now that's Necron and Eldar, apparently.

space marines are very popular because when you first walk into a GW store they pretty much say collect marines and paint them blue.

they are easy to play and there learning curve isn't steep like other factions.

I collect elder, but I have since 5th ed.

my gaming group seems pretty equal faction wise but I never in all my life of 40k played Necrons ! (I really want to)

(Are you trying to decide what to play? If so, my advice, find an army where you like the models of the common solder, you will spend a lot of time painting them, if you find them boring it will be hard.)

For the record, I have:

Large Black Templar Army. I can field a 10k points, fullly painted Apocalypse army with it.
1850 Horus Heresy Imperial Fists Army, fully painted.
1850 Chaos Space Marines army, fully painted. Another 500 or so unpainted.
~2000 Ork army 25% painted.
~2000 Crimson Fists army 50% painted.
