Yes, id Software is part of Bethesda Publishing since 2009.
The "trailer" is more than dissapointing, wouldn't even call it a trailer. Well, ahve to wait till E3.

I suppose you don't understand what a Teaser is? It's a trailer for a trailer.
If you are into old-school inspired modern shooters, I cannot recommend Shadow Warrior enough. I have been having tons of fun with it lately.
For some (Lo) Wang action: http://store.steampowered.com/app/233130/ .
Actually deserve a thread of its own, I should create one soon.
Yes, it is as good as it looks on the trailer.

I'm playing through RAGE again now that it finally runs properly on my PC. It's also awfully generic...
Hello player, you must join the [RESISTANCE] and help fight the [AUTHORITY] for a better tomorrow. Here's a boring briefing from your [RESISTANCE] leader [STEVE BLUM], who will be replacing the equally bland character voiced by [JOHN GOODMAN] who we decided to put on the bus once you were done with the tutorial section.
Shadow Warrior though, I had way too much fun with that. The game wasn't aiming high, wasn't even trying to take itself serious, something the protagonist more than once acknowledged. It's a delightful reminder of the games they did back then, complete with stupid, over the top one-liners.
RAGE certainly has its moments, but nothing so far that really jumps out at me. It's a run of the mill shooter really, it could do with some beefier weapons and better level design, especially if they expect us to run through each level at least twice!
My main issue with RAGE is that it tried to be, like, 4 games in one, and all of those games suffered for it.
If they wanted to make it a Mad Max driving game, where you ran races, fought bandits and raiders, and spent copious bucks/time on upgrading/replacing your car... then do that.
If they wanted a Wastelands-esque shooter in a post-apocalyptic future? Then do that.
If they wanted a Fallout-esque FPS-RPG? Then do that.
A FEAR-esque sci-fi/supernatural FPS? Then do that.
Instead, they tried all of these things and had to sacrifice (IMO) so much Dev-time to make all these things work that they simply couldn't devote the resources to making all of these things truly stand out, so they played it safe and just scratched the surface of each part.
It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.
There were some real funny ones in the cookies too.

Well.. I think Doom 2 was really regarded as the seminal game in the series, took everything from the original and made it better.
I remember there being massive fuss when Quake was released as well; the multiplayer was certainly incredible when it first appeared, although it didn't strike me as much as some of the other games that were coming around at that time and seemed a lot more creative (Mario 64, KNiGHTS etc.)
I highly recommend reading Masters of DOOM, which goes into the founding of id and follows the company and the two John's right up until a decade or so ago. It nicely goes into the Quake thing and the awesomeness surrounding it.

Same. I had a lot of fun with Doom 3, more than I did with Half Life 2 at that time. It could have stood to lose, say, the entire Alpha Labs section, which was IIRC 6-7 levels that added nothing at all, and still had an impressive run time, but overall I thought it was a fantastic shooter.
The complaints at the time seemed to boil down to id changing what Doom was, rather than the game itself being bad.
It didn't have the soul of a Doom game because it was in Full 3D and you didn't sprint at Mach 2. I don't think you can do that justice in a modern shooter.

I actually just saw this last week and started playing Doom 3 again . I loved Doom 3 and can't wait until 4 comes out. On a side note I think I too will have to try Brutal Doom...
"Success is not final, failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts."
GFX look great but I have a feeling 20 or 30 levels of various gore kills might get tedious quick.....
I hope theres bit more to it with a few decent puzzles, dynamic boss fights and level design.
Othewise....hmmm.
