Given the lifespan is at a historic low and they don't hold their value once updated I can't fathom shelling out for one.

Notice that the price of a regular Codex has gone up? $10 in the case of Canadians, so it'll be 5 quid. Think the rest are gonna go up like that, or is this because the Marine one is usually bigger? I think I've decided for sure to drop my Crimson Fists...

10 dollars is enough to make you drop an entire army? God damn.

No, it's just the final nail in the coffin. I'd already been considering it due to:

-Not having the financial freedom to spend as much on GW stuff (new car, insurance, etc have me with less disposable income)
-I already have Space Wolves, Imperial Guard, Chaos and Orks on the go as well with Dark Angels in the back of my mind.
-Marines were my first army, but they're no longer the one I enjoy the most.
-I paid $60 for the current Codex about a year ago and I have yet to play a game with it.

So yeah, basically at this point I'm probably going to convert whatever I can to fit into my SW/ CSM and maybe sell off the rest.

Wouldn't say it's the $10 but the mark up for what some people feel is nothing. Gas goes up. You pay it because you have to. Price of codex goes up. You don't have to pay for it and some just choose not to.

Same old tired complaining. If you don't want the limited edition book why do you care if it's $ 100 or $1000 dollars? I've never bought a GW Limited Edition book but I hope the people who have have enjoyed their purchase.

if it was just a slipcover I probably wouldn't have bought this editions(7th) special edition. But the special card backs, the objective markers, and the book filled with successor chapters seems intriguing enough to buy it this time around.

Same old tired complaining about complaining. If you don't want to read people's opinions about the limited edition books why do you care if others talk about it? I've bought a GW Limited Edition book and feel slighted. I hope the people who want to talk about this enjoy their conversation.

I don't see why getting upset about the special release codexes is a thing to even bother doing. Yes, they're expensive. K. So what? It's not like it has different rules in it. It doesn't add the EMPRAH or something to it. If you don't want it, get a normal codex. That's what I'm doing.

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.

Codex was the same price I thought? $70 isnt that what the last one was?

I got a discount on mine anyways.

I don't really want to buy a new codex though... I like the one I have.

I would consider getting one, but knowing it'll be invalid with the next release in about 8-14 months has put me off.

Pay triple the codex price for some tokens, cards, and an extra book?

Sounds like great value to me./s

I love the idea, but like AAA games "mega-special-ultra-editions", you don't get enough bang for your buck imo.

If they did variant covers, for no extra cost (because seriously, I'm sick of seeing Ultramarines) I'd be all over those. While codices are obscenely expensive, I can't decry the quality of the books.

The issue is, what can you include in special editions for codexes? Exclusive formations?
Maybe some exclusive formation based on the variant cover? So White Scars get their own little biker club, Iron Hands get more HS slots at the cost of FA, nothing game-breaking, but something to add a little more flavour to your chapter (tactics) of choice?

Blood Angels, Space Wolves and Dark Angels are Codex: Astartes; and they technically have exclusive rules and formations based on their chapter, why can't I get that for Iron Hands or Salamanders beyond just Chapter Tactics USR?

Blood Angels have that Assault Marine Formation (iirc) to reflect their chapter doctrine, why do I have to pay GW more money for a short-ass supplement that could just be included in an Iron Hands Codex variant?

Edit: And I'm pretty sure Black Templars players are lamenting the loss of their Exclusive Rules and Flavour.

Exclusive rules available to people who spend 'x' amount above and beyond the normal product is what I'm referring to.

Oh, I don't mean add a cost on. Emperor no.

Same price as standard codex, different formations to reflect the variant cover.
There's a pretty damn good chance if your buying a Iron Hands/Salamanders/White Scars/whatever, cover variant, you play (or at least use the chapter tactics of) that Chapter. It would be nice to have formations based on the chapter (tactics) I play rather then based on the Codex Astartes (read: Ultramarines) doctrine. Oh, and more fluff on the chosen chapter as opposed to the 2-3 token pages compared to Ultramarines 7-8 would be awesome.

I hate supplements with a passion for being GW's version of DLC. Give us those in codex variants, develop their fluff more and imo, you have a great product that rewards players who love their chapters and don't feel shoe-horned into being Ultramarines with a different paint job.

All codices made for a certain faction, limited or otherwise, should have identical rules. No exclusives based on which chapter limited edition you buy.

That would be fine for something that isn't a limited edition. Although would be awkward for players to keep track of . I'd still prefer a return to something like 4th edition's Trait system instead .

And for those of us that have multiple Marine armies? Now you're forcing those players to buy the same 90% of the codex multiple times. If you're buying Astartes codex, you should be able to run Iron Hands AND White Scars out of the same book. Anything short of that is silly. We already have to put up with it for Blood and Dark Angels.

Considering that all of their Limited Editions sell out, and even the scalper-rate ones on eBay sell out too, GW is still going to make these LE 'dexes because they can make money off of them.
