To celebrate Retributions 5 year anniversary relic (10th of March) is releasing the Necron Overlord as a DLC for Last Stand. He will be free for the first 5 days for download, if you download him during this period you have him forever. I quite enjoyed last stand, it was a little repetitive but it did require co-ordination and team synergy, so I welcome any life they can breath back into this game. Just though it worthy of some news.

Oh feth yes. Let's see if he's as powerful as he was in Dark Crusade. I hope he's durable though. I don't know too many Last Stand builds that allow for tank characters.
Thanks for the heads up!

We need DoWIII! Make this a thing.

Also we picked DoWII up late. So we never really get much in the way of people to play last stand with.

I want to play last stand though, so if somebody wants to, PM me

Going by the trailer, he can raise friendly heroes from the dead.
Which is unfluffy as feth, but anyway.

Also, he can turn / summon into a nightbringer.
Which is also dumb, but they did it in Dark Crusade so I guess its fine.

Yeah, oddly enough my favorite tank build is for my Farseer. I'd like to see the Overlord be tanky, but being tanky and being able to rez multiple downed allies at once will make him a nightmare in Bloodied Colosseum.

Haha I feel ya...same age...and Dawn of War II was released in 2009 so SEVEN years ago! I still remember the first magazines showcasing some Dow II screenshots and remember thinking to myself oh wow those graphics holy hell...in the end the graphics were a disappointment (kinda) but still a step up (especially the environment) from the graphics of Dow 1.

Age of Empires II was resurrected from the dead when The Forgotten Empires and now the African Kingdoms were released as expansion packs for the HD edition on steam, so I think it isnt "weird" for new content to be brought to Dow II. And I very much want Tau and Necrons to be made available as payable DLC hell I would buy it.

I really want to play the original Age of Empires but i cant find any updated versions (i.e. steam). Whilst I loved aoe 2, its the original that I started with and have the most nostalgia for.

I want my roman cave men damnit.

My question is who the hell is making this Dow 2 content? I thought relic was shut down.

Relic was bought by Sega when THQ went under.

THQ was shut down. Relic was one of the studios owned by them and sold off to Sega as part of the bankruptcy process. Relic, for the moment at least, is still alive and kicking.

So, I got to play a couple rounds with the new Overlord - he's interesting. Plays similar to the Chaos Sorceror but can be pretty beat-sticky if given the proper loadout.

Won't have much time to day (or awhile for that matter) to level him out and see what kind of silly things he can do, but for a free update for my 5 year old game? I'm pretty happy.

He's ridiculously powerful. I've been playing Last Stand off and on for 5 years and have never beaten Bloodied Colosseum. I just beat it tonight with the Overlord on lvl 6, with a friend of mine playing another Overlord at lvl 5, and a random Tau player.

I have to agree with Orblivion, he is way above the other heroes when it comes to level parity since he only needs a few key gear to hold his own to even the later levels of last stand, versus other heroes who only really come into their own past the level 10sh stage. He is also true to the Necron tabletop for tankiness and damage output. All his weapons have armour piercing, even the ranged ones, and if you use his abilities right, can tank practically anything and come out on top. Only issue I've come into is having to deal with hordes and how slow he is, there's a few wargear that can help manage it but they aren't really worth it compared to the other tanky/health items so your teammates need to help cover that area for you.

Well his initial weapons suck.... the stock staff of light takes almost a whole minute to kill a small group of termagants....the high powered staff sucks against hordes and is only OK against MCs and ICs...the area of effect staff is the only decent ranged weapon so far, but I have seen the ball of lightning get blocked by terrain getting in the way which is a major source of frustration, so the cc-warscythe seems to be the only reasonable choice and that 4th weapon is locked behind an achievement wall.

I have noticed some bugs in that often the Necron does nothing and just stands there.

mindshackle scarabs suck since you only have control over the enemy unit for like 10 seconds...

Haven't played as him yet (I waned to add some variety to the team in case everyone else wanted to take the Overlord), but I did play on a server with a level 6 Overlord.
Insane defenses and health, which I have to admit, I was kind of expecting when it was announced. He's also relatively slow, but he can sort of make his way across the battlefield relatively easy. He's also more or less a melee character (at least the one I was playing with), with some decent offensive power.

With the Warscythe his dmg output is incredible. I can't say for certain because there was a group of hormagaunts attacking me at the same time so I had to retreat, but I think he can solo the Swarmlord. I know he can solo the Chaos Lord and the Warboss.

Just unlocked the void reaper.....ho-lee-emprah that thing is powerful. Right now we're getting owned on level 15 where we fight against ourselves. till then its gravy.

Also love the nanoscarabs that repair your armor. And the tesseract labyrinth is great to stall a horde from surrounding you.

That's the ability that made our run so easy, moreso than his toughness or his dmg output. Tesseract Tomb made the clone wave a cakewalk, as it not only prevents enemies from moving but from attacking as well. If you know which gate the clones are coming out of you can get them with Tesseract Tomb immediately and its game over.

Wait until you unlock the Glypth of the Reclaimer. AoE damage (large AoE!), while granting MASSIVE HP regen for each enemy affected by the AoE. same initial cost as the nanos, slightly faster drain, but way stronger.

I've had Retribution for awhile, but I never really fiddled with Last Stand until now. I like the Lord General, but the Necron is just so powerful. With my noobish behavior, two other necrons easily completed Bloody Colloseum with time to spare.

2 void reapers holding off a swarm is fun to watch... and then a Tau commander kills everything by jumping into it. I almost feel sorry for the guys.

You're healing based on number of enemies around you AND dealing damage at the same time. So the "not attacking" thing only matters if you're taking on a large single target enemy (i.e. wraith lord, swarm lord, etc) in which case you should be clearing the adds around the big guy before focusing on it, as a void reaper necron can pretty much go toe to toe with just about anything except MAYBE the swarmlord I think, but I've never gotten a chance to 1v1 him without all the termagaunts/hormagaunts running around.
