The idea here is to have a basic what you need to know to face another army for all the armies in one, searchable, thread. For anyone who does not have all the codices handy.
So what do you have to explain to your opponent in every game?
Could we PLEASE keep this a "here's how this thing in my codex works" rather than a "this or that is/is not OP" thread.
We have all heard about how broken all the broken things are ad nausem, I would like to know how things (like marker lights) work please

Farsight Enclaves can take their own signature systems and Tau Empire signature systems now.
Yes, you can put more than one signature system on one commander.
No, I don't think crisis bodyguards are worth their points.

Very few daemons have an armour save (some of the big things with wings have 3+) ALL daemons have a 5++.
Daemons come in four flavours that play differently. Khorne is aggressive and cc orientated (all have furious charge), but mostly comes in the from Khorne daemonkin (an entirely different codex). Nurgle is slow and hard to kill (shrouded and slow and purposeful). Tzeentch has more random and is big on magic (always gets to reroll 1's to save and have Ld10 if testing for a perils). Slaanesh is fragile, but fast and hits hard (fleet, rending and runs extra)
Daemons have A LOT of random stuff.
Starting with rewards; daemons can't get wargear for points, we get rewards (lesser, greater or exalted) that have a random effect or can be swapped out for a weapon (much like you roll for psychic powers and can swap for the primaris). Most often we take greater rewards, they cost 20pts and mostly make daemons harder to kill or swap for a decent weapon.
The other major random thing is the warpstorm table. At the start of the daemon shooting phase we roll 2D6 and something random happens. On average, there will be one turn were the daemon player has a good thing happen (extra daemons or +1 invul for a turn), one turn where a bad thing happens (daemons go away or -1 invul for a turn) and the rest of the time nothing or a few random models die (unengaged enemies or daemons of a particular flavour take a shooting attack on a 6).
We have ways to manipulate our invul saves and the warpstrom table result. This and worrying about when our FMC's should be in the sky is what we worry about most of the time.
Summoning is not entirely free, to do it effectively one needs to dedicate a significant amount of psychic resources and it is unreliable. Also daemons would not be very competitive without it.

Black Templars are not OP.
Not everyone plays for power, some of us like Lore and painting more than playing
Sisters of Battle are pretty potent and not a bottom tier army just because they do not have a physical Codex anymore.
Just my thoughts for the game.

Harlequin units all have 5++ saves, Harlequin bikes and vehicles have a once per game 4++ vs shooting that works just like Jink. This means pretty much no matter what, if you fire something at a Harlequin it has a base 50% chance or worse of not doing anything.
I play so many games where people fight Harlequins just like trukk orks or Dark Eldar. For both of those, you spread your fire. Against de the idea is to force jinks and reduce their shooting, vs orks you want to cripple or explode as many trucks as you can turn 1.
Against harlequins any fire that doesn't go towards killing starweavers turn 1 will be making you very sad turn 2.
|
"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

Corsairs have their own perils table.
Yes, Fearless psykers essentially ignore 90% of the repercussions.
Dark Eldar
Grotesques are tougher than you think they are.
Freakshows
Your leadership is, at any given point, probably lower than you think.
Daemons of Chaos, conscripts with a priest, and Tyranid models not within synapse range do not actually have the Fearless rule, and are still susceptible to Soulfright wounds.
Out of the four disciplines used by Freakshow psykers, ATSKNF protects you from one power.
Stubborn only applies to Morale and Pinning tests. It has no bearing on Psychic Shriek, Dominate, Mind War, Purge Soul, Soulfright, Mirror of Minds, or Fear tests.

I think that guy earlier covered the weird thing about Sororitas rules pretty well, so I'm going to talk about a piece of extrapolated lore for the Sisters of Battle.
If you try to estimate how rare the conditions that make someone into a Sister of Battle are, you arrive at a figure of around 1 in 1,000,000. If you factor in the number of planets the Imperium has, and the average population per planet to arrive at a rough estimate of the Imperium's approximate total population, then try to figure out how many Sisters of Battle there are in the galaxy at any one time, you arrive at the conclusion that there are probably around 10 BILLION Sisters of Battle serving the Ecclesiarchy at all times.
Making Sisters of Battle, lore-wise, outnumber loyalist Space Marines 10,000 to 1.

Tau: Yes two markerlights get rid of cover. Yes they can be used for both removing cover and buffing bs. Yes the riptide can move 4d6 with a nova charge.
Yes the fireblade has a markerlight and can shoot other things. Yes we can shoot more than one weapon at other things with a target lock.

Tau:
I have to effectively Roll a "gets hot!" roll twice to fire one gun at base BS 3. often times i will fail my nova charge to only fail my gets hot aswell.
I can nova charge to more then one thing, not just a better blast template and no, i dont get all the modes at once.
I can take a unit of three riptides, the rules say that MC's cant group with non MC's not cant group at all.
Broadsides die easier then you think
Tau are a shooting based army with generally BS3 across the board on our heavier hitters, we lose our markerlight support we are playing at a pretty hefty disadvantage.
Broadside missiles are not AP3, you will die to wieght of fire before you die to high AP shooting(generally, i play against a lof of marine players).
My stormsurge is an assault unit, locking it down basically means its dies that turn to any assault unit worth its salt.
The Storm surge is T6 with a worse save then my riptide, to make it not die to AP3 shooting i need to spend the points on a 4++ invuln save. Also 90% of its shooting is STR5 AP5.
sure i can make D missiles but for that i need markerlights. Ironically i've had it die faster then one of my tides.

In that case due to the new GW FAQ the Riptide can no longer shoot both its nova charged ion accelerator weapon profile (the one that gains ordinance) and its secondary weapon after moving. Only one or the other. This was always the case but it was so forgotten it needed to be put in the faq.
Considering I never did this I was playing it right compared to many others I knew.
