Subject: How "new" are the new Kill Team rules?
|
 |
Longtime Dakkanaut

I'm asking this question as I'm interested in building a Kill Team from what I already have to finally jump into a LGS to play something, but want to know if there are any major differences between the new rules, and the ones presented in 6th that I can't simply remember, so that I don't have to buy a rulebook for it. Is this the case?
Thanks in advance for your response

I started a thread last week asking basically the same thing, and apparently the rules don't even come out until this weekend!

Rules should be out today, iirc.
Not going to be able to get my grubby mitts on them for a while, however. Would be very glad to know if they have finally banned the D.
Eldar can take KT's that include D weapons...

Seems like just a repackaging of the old kill team Rules EXCEPT that the special rules have all been re-named to be different from the BRB. (This just ends up being annoying and hard for newer players)
Five examples --
Instant Death is now Deathblow
Fleshbane is now Killer Instinct (Armourbane is now called Bane of Vehicles :/)
Haywire is now Machine Saboteur
Hatred is now Murderous Blows
Split-Fire is now Reaping Volley
Not impressed.

So no changes to team construction or model interactions?
Grenade clarifications?

Kill team FOC is the same. Restrictions are the same.
No amendments to BRB rules and how they interact in KT - so basically no grenade clarifications.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
If anything, the only difference is example Kill Teams and that's to promote Marine and Breacher model kits imo.

If you bought it from Black Library -- you can download the new rules for free. Otherwise, if you have the old rules - don't bother.

I realised my mistake when I came home to check when it was coming out - naturally nobody would have known. Doh!
You've saved me from spending £15 on a rulebook Otto, and for that I thank you kindly. Big shame that they didn't expand past the missions, but at least Kill Team will probably garner a larger community and allow me to play with my models again thanks to the release.

Something hilarious about the new kill team rules. The example kill teams contain a few illegal ones: http://www.spikeybits.com/2016/09/new-40k-kill-team-datsheets-revealed.html Orks have 2 Elites Skitarii picked vehicles as specialists. It seems like 0 effort was put into this from a rules perspective. The pictures are nice even if they based a Taurox for some reason. ETA: Also annoying that they are tripling down on the "Space Marines are a Hoard Army" thing they've been doing this edition. The space Marine example kill team is highest model count (except for Skitarii).

The website also suggests taking Pink Horrors as part of a Kill Team, but the rules say that Brotherhood of Sorcerers has no effect, which surely makes them hilariously bad?

Hmm, this smells as fishy as a Tau. I got the new rules free due to having bought 6th Ed so will check them out. If they work on my despised by GW Android format.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you. |

I loved the 6E Kill Team rules and picked up the 7E Kill Team box set mostly just to get them in print.
Besides, I pre-ordered them payed, and only payed $50, a box. Traded my Tactical Squad for my friends Fire Warrior Squad. I'm pretty sure I could sell the mini rulebook for $10-$15 and bring my investment down to $35-$40, which would be like getting the Kill Team book and a Squad of Fire Warriors for FREE!!

Yes. And in the new white dwarf, they showcase a tyranid KT with a zoanthrope… even mentioning that it has +1BS from a specialist trait to make it more accurate with warp blast.

This is what I'm hoping, since at least Kill Team isn't as broken and un-fun to play as the regular format. Plus it's much easier to organise tournaments for, which is always a bonus

It's also the only way to play 40K without spending half a day on a game.
If I could play in about an hour, it would be much easier for me to have games during the week, instead of having to spend the better part of my Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

Think I'm going to try and start Heralds of Ruin by the sounds of it. Seems like a real missed opportunity to me. I've been really enthused by the return of Kill Team don't get me wrong. I'll probably buy a shed load of models, but this could have been a real winner for GW if they had set their mind to it. A small skirmish Boxset could have been their answer to X-Wing with everything you need to play the game in the box. Sure it wouldn't have been painted and ready like X-Wing, but it would have been a start wouldn't it. And a nice gateway drug to the bigger 40k game.

Brotherhood of Sorcerers/Brotherhood of Psykers has no effect(because of "Every Man for Himself" where each model is considered a separate unit), but the only limitation on Psyker powers is that Conjuration powers cannot work per the "You're on Your Own" rule.

How would you adjudicate it, Kan? If Brotherhood of Psykers has no effect, is your interpretation that each pink horror can cast psychic powers?
My interpretation is that no model with the Brotherhood of Psykers can cast a psychic power.

My interpretation is that the only thing which effectively changes the way a Psyker works via Brotherhood of Psykers/Sorcerers (the bit about using any model in the unit to work the spell or various other sundries where like Zoanthropes manifest the number of models in the brood as the number of shots fired for Warp Blast) is what they intend to not have an effect. Additionally it's worth mentioning that if you look at the profiles for Zoanthropes and Pink Horrors, they both actually have the "Psyker" listing under their profiles.

The difference is Zoanthropes are full Psykers. You can take one and it can cast on it's own.
Pink Horrors are brotherhood pyskers, and as a group can only cast collectively a single power per turn.
Pink Horrors and Grey Knights get neutered in Kill Team, and they have to, since the alternative of making them cast individually, is broken good.

Zoanthropes have the "Brotherhood of Psykers" rule not the "Psyker" rule, am I missing something here? I haven't seen anything to say Brotherhood of Psykers cant be a brotherhood of 1. The rule in the special rules section of the BRB (Dont have page number only the digital version) says "a unit containing at least 1..." so shouldn't be a problem. It is surely an oversight from GW to allow 10 horrors to suddenly add 10 WC to an army in Kill Team that isn't right.

From the 6th Edition Rulebook, and it should be the same in the 7th.
Psychic Solitude: The Brotherhood of Psykers/Sorcerers special rule has no effect in games of Kill Team.
Without Brotherhood of Sorcerers, Pink Horrors can't use Psychic powers.

Ah I see, it's an extra rule present in Kill Team.
So that would also mean Zoanthropes will not be useful in Kill Team I guess.

Zoanthropes are unique because they are also solitary psykers in the Tyranid codex. There are no other brotherhood psykers that can be bought solo and still cast. RAI they should be fine, but someone could make a RAW argument to the contrary.
Personally, I've never felt that Tryanids were particularly well suited to Kill Team, so I wouldn't object to them. Tyranids could use all the help they can get.
