For me it is the fact that God-hammer land raiders are back. I'll probably include one in every list I play - It will really bring back my enjoyment of the game. Fear the God-hammer!

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

The streamlining of the game into a playable state, awesome new DG models (40k nurgle marines in plastic were long overdue). The possibility of a plastic blight drone type thing. And of course the primus marines.

Meganobz actually getting saves v AP2 weapons, even if it's just a 5+. And, not necessarily getting instakilled by str 8.

Plus, power klaws going 1st in CC after a charge, even with a -1 hit modifier.

Also, deff dreads maybe not sucking?

This combined with maybe Deff Rollas not sucking. Battlewagon plows into unit of panzies, then the nobz jump out and krump 'em with power klawz before they get a chance to hit back! I'm not sure if that's how it will actually work, but it would be cool.

I'm really excited by the weapons getting 1d6 damages instead of doing 1 wound or instant death, as I was missing this from Fantasy Battle

What looks like - for a change - nerfs to the things that needed nerfing and buffs to the things that needed buffing. I doubt it's perfect, but it looks far and away better.

A more coherent ruleset in general, no Formations, some thought seemingly put into the rules (even if Im not thrilled with all of it), a living ruleset and a clean slate for all armies codex-wise.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!

-Everything being on the same damage system (S v T, Armour saves and wounds)
-Faction books that include more than 1 army's worth of units (all Space Marines, including Angels and Wolves, in the same book is exciting)
-an AP system that is not all or nothing, i.e. Heavy Bolters actually have an effect on Marines/Terminators

There is just so much to be excited about!

From today's Q&A; Defender gets to choose wound allocation.

I'm so happy I might cry!

Sure, it could lead to silliness that you could NEVER seem to hit a character or a special weapon, but it worked so well for keeping everything quick and simple. Plus, with Sniper weapons still being able to pick characters out, I have a feeling that this change will be super amazing special awesome!

Honestly - pretty much everything. The few things that I'm not over the moon about, aren't a huge black-eye and I can see in some way or form, that it will make for a better game, even if I don't particularly care for the rule. Right now I would say that there's not a single rule that I've seen that I hate. Battleshock, random charge distance and mortal wounds are mechanics that I don't particularly care for, but that's a small percentage compared to essentially the entire rest of the known ruleset that I do like. Bring on 8th edition I say! BRING IT!

Sometimes, the only truth people understand, comes from the barrel of a gun.

Wow that is nice! Having been through several wound allocation types over the years, it is just easier to allocate to whoever you want. it also makes Assault armies better as they won't have to lose any models from the front from Overwatch.
Hopefully though, you have to allocate onto already wounded models to prevent shenanigans.

No, 5th was close but not quite; you had to arm everyone differently for that to work. This is more like 3rd. Also, considering the other changes, I'm not too worried about Mr. Draigo doing those same mean things as before.

Streamlined and cheaper rules. It was my main two complaints about 40k.

Playing: Droids (Legion), Starks (ASOIAF), BB2

changing of AP values. This makes a lot of small guns viable when before they were only ever used as a desperation weapon (which shouldn't be).

Another one is the Movement stat. Means that stuff like the Trygon won't have to be bound by the measly 6" movement due to just being a Monstrous Creature.

They aren't leaks.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

The best thing is probably the fact that we'll see a lot more variety of units being used. It looks like Termies may actually be playable, as well as their Land Raider transports. Time for me to dust off my Deathwing and get them painted!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

I'm most excited that 8th is not a tweaked version of 7th.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

If this is like AoS you have to put all the wounds in the first wounded model until he dies. So if a unit of 10 terminators with 2 wounds receive 10 wounds of damage, you can't put 1 wound to every terminator, you'll lose 5 terminators.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

A tactical squad can take a plasma gun and a heavy bolter and have the whole squad fire their weapons at appropriate targets *at the same time*. Even in 2nd edition there were further restrictions such as closest infantry/vehicle. 6 editions later and it looks like progress has been made!
