The ap, wounding and S vs T mechanics mean a whole new look to the entire weapon system. I'm very excited about this.

I'm most excited that matched play will be actively maintained and balanced. Many armies never got codex updates and really suffered for it, now they can get points updates to keep them competitive. You won't need post hoc balance schemes like formations, and will instead be able to address the problem at it's root.

Constantly being negative doesn't make you seem erudite, it just makes you look like a curmudgeon.

Formations being gone.

While I did like the Emperor's Wrath Artillery Company, I think formations as a whole were rather unbalanced.

Also, multiple wounds.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

Going to attach mt excitement to a few of peoples posts here.

*The AP/cover + plus the wounding system seems to be done well - no more useless weapons. This should mean more troops on the table.
*No more AV - excellent - now I can use vehicles without getting them for free.
*Rules are cheap and easy!
*New magic phase is MUCH improved.

Some things I'm not particularly attached to
*Primarus marines (mostly because what does this mean for my main army? Greyknights?)
*Still having random charge distance.

I'm not sure if everyone missed it or alrrady knew this but confirmation from the live FAQ that you can consolidate into a new combat (not with the pile in Move).

That is going to make combat worthwhile again. Even if they can then disengage.

My Trygon deep striking ahm sorry underground assaulting and charging an the first turn.

I also wanted to say " all armys being balanced " but i am not 100% convinced that is will be the case. I have to see it to believe it.

Currently we know nothing about grav guns do we? I'm hoping it gets a special rule that move units when you shoot them!

Sure overwatch got a buff but I'm glad assault got buffed appropriately too. Also as an ork player I'm giddy about vehicles in melee since I happen to like wrecking balls on trukks and intended to take the grabbing claw option with BWs for 7th because it could hold even SHVs. Now I can't wait to see how it works out for 8th.

Things that are new/reinstated? Modifiers
Things that are going away? Formations (and hopefully taking their ridiculous bonuses with them)
Things that are different? Twin-linked (my 4 Land Raiders are happy that they might be viable again)

I'm so happy I might cry!

Sure, it could lead to silliness that you could NEVER seem to hit a character or a special weapon, but it worked so well for keeping everything quick and simple. Plus, with Sniper weapons still being able to pick characters out, I have a feeling that this change will be super amazing special awesome!

Wait...you mean like how 5th edition worked? Aka Draigostars and stuff?

No, you're obliged to remove wounded models, but you get to choose which ones. Non shenanigans where you remove one wound on each model before starting to take out casualties.

While I don't necessarily agree with how they chose to do it, if their promise of all units being useful is true - that'd be huge. There's nothing more awful to me than netlists and "well this is just the army you take because nothing else in your codex is worthwhile" stuff. That is how you kill a wargame.

The gamer community in 40K should be sad when a tournament top 10-12 has "Oh, well six guys brought the X list, four brought the Y list, and two were running the Z list". That's just piss-poor awful game making at its core. So I hope that mostly goes away (even if it takes a year or two to hamper stuff). I don't think it'll happen, but I hope it's far less garbage than it seems now.

Your army should be your army, not some math-driven, meta-proven formula. That's boring as feth.

The promise that the game will be balanced if GW made such a promise.
Atm, I'll take nothing for granted.

I'm pretty excited about tau stuff - I haven't seen any. Can you Imagine the firepower of a broadside battle-suit now? That is a lot of missiles!

At first, I was sad that T'au seemed to get so many bonuses that are clearly MORE anti-melee, but after hearing that you can Assault after reserves and that you don't have to take Overwatch casualties from the front, I am ok with it.
Especially since it shows that GW recognizes some of the problems with melee armies, like Overwatch denying distance and not being able to assault Turn 1.

Assault when coming from reserves and overwatch casualties from the front.
This will clearly make melee centric armies better than in the edition before.
BA with an appropriate ''angels of death'' rule would benefit from this.

As the first news came out I was concerned that Tau were getting left in the dust. With overwatch being buffed and twinlinked weapons basically being 2 weapons tau will still be very powerful I think. I wonder if they will still have a supporting fire type rule.

I really like the twin-linked ruling, if only because I no longer have to explain why it is a stupid way to represent a reroll to people while also coming up with plausable reasons as two why a gun with two barrels can only ever achieve one hit.

The return of the Godhammer, I wanted one of these things all the way back in 4th/5th but never got around to it. Finally have one primed and hopefully ready for 8th.
Assaulting after deep striking. I don't generally play melee heavy armies usually anyway, but it opens up some nice plays and counter plays. Plus I want to see people actually use tyranids again and the changes to combat so far seem to help them out a bit.

Powerfists/Klaws swinging first. I've been putting those weapons on any model that could carry them regardless of efficacy because they're my favorite melee weapon. I like that they'll pulp things in melee at initiative step 10. Not that that exists anymore.

Edit: Typo
