Not sure about the Fire Warrior (although a more radical Rogue Trader might have some xenos mates kicking around), but that sort of random mob seems appropriate for a Rogue Trader and crew.

Between 40k, AoS, Titanticus, Shadespire, Speed Freaks, Necromunda, Kill Team, AoS Champions, Bloodbowl, the new LOTRs, this and all the other Quests, I just don’t have the time, money or effort to put into a new boxed game every other month (not sure how anyone else has it either). As such, I’ll likely be giving this a miss unless it offers me a reasonable reason to pick up the minis for 40k, and I’ll just stick to the main games for now.

But that's the new sales model. A new game every other month so you don't have time to properly try any of them out and see how half-assed they all are before you're already moving to the next big release.

That's your fault then. Stop buying things you won'[t have time to use.

I expect that this game will probably include Imperial heroes - Rogue Trader Janus Draik and his crew. I'm sure we'll see additional hero cards available, like with the AoS-set WQ games.

By the way, "Janus Drake" was the Rogue Trader protagonist in William King's Farseer novel.
Spoiler:
He journeyed to a Crone World with the Farseer Auric Stormcloud and his bodyguard, the Exarch Athenys

I'm sure there'll be a soldier, but it won't just be a Cadian with a lasgun. Also, in a way, I'd like to see a Marine - one from a more obscure Chapter, who's been away for a long time, and has a more individualised look. Like how Cipher looks kinda like a Dark Angel, but then again, ... doesn't.

Like how Silver Tower had six different Stormcast?

Something more like the mix in Rogue Trader is more likely, with perhaps a Xenos or two. That will depend on the precise nature of the setting, I suppose; Silver Tower was six strangers gathered up at random. This game might have all the characters being from Rogue Trader Draik's crew, or they could be a mix of Rogue Traders and other assorted adventurers, space pirates, aliens, etc.

That, and both AoS Warhammer Quest games have had quite a varied cast of characters. Admittedly nine out of ten are from the Grand Alliance of Order, but you've got a Stormcast Eternal, one of the Free Peoples, a Duardin, two Aelfs and a human follower of Chaos in Silver Tower, and a Stormcast, a Duardin and two more Aelfs in Shadows Over Hammerhal. I expect all the heroes in this to be Imperial, but after that? Who knows?

I wasn't talking about the extras; if you include those, it had heroes from just about every faction anyway.

If we get a Marine, it won't be an Intercessor. It'll be something that's an exemplar of whichever Chapter he's from, or something really odd.

Peachy's using one in the Hang Out & Play videos, although he's not in the Silver Tower app. Not sure where the card for him is from.

Is Silver Tower actually fun to play? I bought it for the minis. This one would have to be fun, though, with all the other minis wants me to get. Even CSM goons and hopefully some crazy =I= stuff could be bits bought (prpbably have to be quick, though) and outside of maybe Skaven-Hrud I'm not sure what I'm lacking in 40k right now.

PS: The fur/scale trophy. The tail of it is furry, so why would the rest be scales, especially painted like that?

I think so. I thought it was a little easy for the players, but then I've seen other groups (including the Warhammer TV people) be abysmal at it, so maybe we were just lucky. I've never played Shadows of Hammerhal, but I'd like to.

I've already got models for Commissar Blackadder Cain and Baldrick Jurgen, so this will be handy. "Woof!"

Both Silver Tower and Shadows of Hammerhal are games in the Warhammer Quest series.

Alternartively, Shadows of Hammerhal is the only Warhammer Quest game (currently) that does have a GM. I mean, there's only the two (the original '90s Warhammer Quest is only related by name).

Blackstone Fortress is following in Silver Tower's footsteps by having characters designed specifically for that game.

As long as they don't give him a comical foot long hot dog for a cigarette like the rogue trader, I have faith.

Silver Tower included cards for four additional heroes in the rulebook (which were subsequently released as a box set), and added thirty-odd via the app and in the card pack Thargrim missed out on. Then you can use any of the ones subsequently added for Shadows of Hammerhal. Hopefully this will be similar.

So where are these rumours saying Abaddon was in this game? Were they on Spikey Bits?

There’s something akin to the Eldar look to that. I like it.

You've seen the article? Well, you're as much of an expert as anyone else. What do you think?

I'd assumed something like the Crusader Inquisitorial acolyte, or some sort of fanatic of an obscure Imperial cult.

Okay, so this looks like the forces in this box are :

Chaos: Chaos Lord, 2 Chaos Marines, Weird Drone things, a couple beastmen, a couple negavolt cultists, a handful of renegade cultists, Cultist leader guy, Ur-ghul.

Good Guys: Rogue Trader, Kroot, Eldar Ranger, 5 various henchmen, Giant Robot Dude.

As these two side are supposed to be equal-ish, I have to wonder how powerful the Robot Guy is to balance things. A Rogue Trader is good, but not Chaos Lord good. The rest of the henchmen would be about as good as the cultists and Negavolts. That means the Robot Guy is about equal to two Chaos Marines, an Ur-Ghul, the drones, and needs to pick up the slack from the Rogue Trader/Chaos Lord fight.

This is a co-op dungeon crawler. There is no reason to assume the forces will be equal size. In fact there should be a ton more adversaries than characters, as it won't always be the same adversaries in each mission.

For example in Silver Tower, there are forty-four adversary miniatures, and seven for the heroes.

Good; more copies left for me, then.

Those product images are usually manipulated images; That's not simply a photograph of all the bits laid out at once. Tthe box and the rulebook are almost certainly not actual photographs of the items themselves.

They could also leave out stupid entries like a unit of 2 CSM. What the hell does that serve? They can already be fielded as normal CSM.

It means I can immediately use the models I get in my brand-new game in 40k, without having to buy anything else. It means I can get some games in using Chaos models, and then I might think about a new army. Silver Tower was the same, until Tzaangors and Kairic Acolytes got a separate release, and it was also true of Deathwatch Overkill.

Oh stop.

It’s a bonus. Another way to use the models you’ve just bought, outside their main game.

You cannot legitimately criticise nice little bonuses like that.

It is not a bonus when it is designed with that in mind. Or do you seriously believe GW thinks this game will be the next big thing? These models have been made with the idea of people pluging them into their W40K armies, as count-as or whatever.

Of course they have. They did that with every board game they've ever made. I don't see how you can look at that and see it as a negative. However, I think you're very wrong if you're suggesting that's the only intention. They've put out all these different board games because … people like board games, and they like different kinds of board games. If the only reason for this game was to introduce new Chaos Marines, they'd have … released the new box of Chaos Marines that's undoubtedly in production, and not gone to all the effort of creating a board game.

I'd like you to meet Ferrus Manus. He's a friend of Tony Stark and Ozzy Osbourne.

Ferrus manus, Corvus Corax, Lion el'Jonson, Sanguinius, the entirety of the 5th edition Warhammer Armies Lizardmen, all the original Space Dwarf models named after guns, etc, etc, ... Daft puns is part of the setting. In this particular case, it seems pretty justified - it looks like a perfectly reasonable epithet for that character.

The datasheet for the models in this game will probably be for exactly the models in the game; two squads of six troopers and a leader each, one trooper with a flamer, one with an autopistol and close combat weapon, one with a laspistol and close combat weapon and a leader with laspistol and chainsword. A more generic datasheet with equipment options will come when we see a separate box released.

Probably for game balance reasons, and what fits on the sprue.

Exactly. the datasheets for the Genestealer Cult models in Deathwatch Overkill had a unit of two purestrain genestealers, no more no less. When the codex came out, what a surprise, you could have a different number in a unit.
