Hello

Since I got into the hobby I noticed I LIKE painting models but I LOVE scratch-building.

But I wanted a BANEBLADE. God Baneblades are cool.

So, I started off looking for a template and found the Patoroch Baneblade and BaneSword templates. Decided to go with the Baneblade.
What I had was trash, Q-tips I believe they are called, a bunch of old loyalty cards (from a company I work for) I could cut up for resources and a good store to buy greenstuff and styrene.

I've done some other work to before but nothing special:

and a small diorama that I'm somewhat proud of but is not finished:

So, I got started, and after a while of tinkering I ended up with a good styrene and card-based chassis:

As you can see from this terrible picture, I have started on the firepower too.

More pics underway.

I wish I had made the turret 1 cm wider, but I didn't want to make it too realistic (read: a lot bigger) to keep the Baneblade-look:

And the twins started looking good:

Now details (RIVETS! So many RIVETS!)

At this point I have to point out two sources of inspiration:
- https://imgur.com/user/xavierbacon
- https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/236187.page
both are magnificent examples to start with.

So after a while I realized I was going to have to make 160 treads. So I started a small test project that ended up like based on the BOAR support vehicle
made by one Ash1 here:

which is still WIP:

and it's almost finished:

This taught me a lesson: DO NOT scratchbuild the treads. I decided to work with a mould but this still WIP.

Current status of Baneblades in next post:

Alrighty some more WIP pics:

Compared to a WIP Scout salamander:

Test-marine for scale:

I'm gonna be making treads for a while now and add small details when I see a spot for it.

So now I come to the reason for this post: I require advice on detailing and adding extras to make a somewhat more realistic tank but still 40K-worthy.

Good grief. You post picture after picture of pure awesome, and you think we can help you?

The precision and thoughtfulness of all.3 of these builds is staggering. Many thanks for sharing.

You already have panels, rivets, icons, aerials, secondary weapons, smoke launchers and random.tech gubbins. The only things that I can think of are some kind of reactive armour, or those anti missile shotgun things that the Armata has under the turret. That and storage.

There are supposed to be 14 or so crew in that thing. They need packs and tools.and tea making equipment and suchlike, and not all of that will fit inside the tank.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Hi

The problem is that while there's a good basis it just never feels right. Ofc, the details of paint and (moderate) weathering will likely add to it, but I'm taking about making it look bith realistic, "used" and yet still part of the 40k universe.
Right now I'm looking into adding pickaxes, shovels (so tools as you said), small crates and perhaps a chain but some of the work here (and the Ash1 baneblade being my favorite) are just feel perfect and I'm constantly disappointed right now with that.

Some packs and maybe rolled tarps might work, thank you

That's amazing. I'm dumbfounded.

Going by a few of the kitbash/scratch build videos I've seen, a coat of primer can really make the model look more complete and uniform. The ability to see the different materials that were used exaggerates the "incomplete" sensation. When you get even a basic primer on it, it will suddenly look so much better.

An update. Not been very busy

To clarify, I'm working up with test projects so that the Baneblades end up being the showpiece of the IG diorama.

So here's a small update on the turret: I've add a guy!

So now I'm slowly making the tracks with greenstuff;
The mould;

and some early results (which will need work but will fit perfectly);

So next I wanted to practice stowage:

And I got a Chimera that I'm converting into a Salamander Command/scout to practice:

I used some leftover guys on one of my Suply BOAR vehicles too:

aaaand I'm working on prototyping to added armor:

taking a break for a few weeks now, then I'll have all the track pieces ready and I can start work finalizing the treads, and then prime the baneblade and the BOARs

Ciao

Back to the baneblades and after priming one I ran out of Zandri Dust spray :/

These two look fantastic! You’d hardly believe they were scratch built. It was the details on the cupolas that really grabbed my attention, they’re a real work of art.

The BOAR put me in mind of the M270 but with a HIMARS cab. I love the ERA skirts on them too.

Great job all round!
