Subject: Zombicide(Fantasy): Dead Men Tales (Pirate Themed) GF April 22nd (now live)
Has Fantasy Flight ever done a crowd funding? I have backed all the other fantasy zombicides so I am likely in this one too... I do love pirate goodness.

FFG revealed at PAX that bringing on Zombicide (with the current development team intact) has allowed them to do crowdfunding for the first time.
They also said that they will be doing a "Vault" of out of print games through crowdfunding. No further details on whether that includes any 3rd party IP.
Note that Squid Game is a 2nd edition expansion, while the pirate fantasy box is a new standalone core.

Those squid game bad guys look good. They would make good bad guy minions /cultists in a lot of games. I wonder how compatible the pirate once will be with Blacl plague/ Green horde and white death. The themes of the other three seem ... out of place in a black powder nautical theme.

I will pass on this, regardless of CMON being separated from it.
It is retreading the same ground as the Rum & Bones game, what with using the same artists/art style.
If it ever hits a retail shelf, I will give it due consideration.
But I am not pre-ordering a crowd fund for this.
And I so love pirates!
Bam, said the lady!

The only way I could see myself interested in this is if they do a whole bunch of Not-One-Piece pirates.
Like Skrulnik, I still have a ton of (heavily played) Rum and Bones...but if they make a crossover pack to use those figures in the new project...maybe?
Urusei Yatsura, Cerebus the Aardvark, Machiavelli, Plato and Happy Days. So, how was your childhood?
Won't be backing this but I'm glad it's happening. Zombicide's put out a lot of great minis over the years. It'll be interesting to see if production quality of the PVC miniatures holds up.

"Dead men tales" is a bit of an uninspiring subtitle but I am very interested. Pirates are one of those themes absolutely everyone seems to enjoy, and I'm yet to actually own a Zombicide game, just admired from afar.

I wish I had picked up Black Plague back in the day, as it was the last setting I would have sufficiently liked to invest Zombicide-levels of money into. This could finally be a new contender; zombies and pirates are a good mix and the kids will enjoy those too I reckon. Have been looking for a nice coop game and Zombicide has a good level of decision making and streamlining last I looked, so yeah, pretty interested in this. Not sure what to expect from the crowdfunding here and never a big fan of it in general, but depending on the promises and timeline, I very much can imagine either backing or picking it up in retail later (and not wait another 10 years until nothing is available anymore this time...)

That said - I've never used GF before. In case things don't break to my tastes, is it possible to cancel a pledge while the campaign is still active?
Yes, is functions a lot like KS, just seems to have more tools for the developers.

Pledged for now since some of my friends are really into pirate stuff, but this really is the least exciting version of Zombicide ever. Supremely dissapointing is the "Fantasy Compatability Pack" to use your old stuff, it's possibly the laziest thing they could have possibly released. It's just the old plastic dashboards with the new adrenaline/XP levels printed on them, 24 cards with the new versions of skills printed on them and 70 printed sleeves to shove old spawn cards into so the back match. No updated ID cards, no updated spawn or equipment cards, Anybody hoping for something equivelant to the 2E Complete Upgrade Kit will be SORELY dissapointed.
It looks OK as a standalone Zombicide, but I don't see it replacing Black Plague, Green Horde or White Death as a base Fantasy Zombicide, it's too Pirate specific and and the "backwards compatability" they touted is a joke. Rulebook is up, I recommend looking over the "changes from older editions" section near the end of the book

Well, you... thought wrong? Asmodee split the RPG and miniatures games creation and development out to two other companies (Edge Studio and Atomic Mass Games), but that's kinda it.
Embracer did saddle Asmodee with almost their whole debt, though.

Just in case this has dropped off people's radars, it has entered the last couple of days. Expectations are that the last add-on box will drop today, and then the all-in will be announced, leading to a surge in stretch goal unlocks.
It's not overly Fantasy, but the expansion boxes add some fun sounding mechanics, such as pirate goblin zombies nicking your equipment, and a two player single mini.

It does feel a little half-baked in having just a smattering of fantasy elements (ignoring the actual concept of zombies). I was interested, but this has waned as a result of not really leaning in either direction: either have regular human pirates fight zombies and the occasional maritime monster (I think there might have been a pretty successful movie franchise about that at some point...), or have a proper classic fellowship/D&D party with a host of fantasy races fight the zombie apocalypse. The middle ground does little for me. Both the fantasy elements and the focus on historical pirates now simultaneously feel out of place somehow.

EDIT:
And just after I say that, they announced some cool monsters: https://gamefound.com/en/projects/asmodee/dead-men-tales/updates/69
