Is this like the new Cityfight rulebook? I have been meaning to buy the Cityfighty rulebook, but dont want to buy an old and outdated version. What are some of the major differences, if they are similar?

Cities of Death is completely new and is based on 4th ed, where Cityfight is old and based on 3rd ed. Cities of Death is also much more innovative and IMHO better than the old CityFight.

One of the most interestng features of COD allows each player to pick 1-3 'strategums' from a list of dozens. The strategums (strategae?) can alter the game in very interesting ways. For example:

Sewer Rats lets you place sewer grate markers and deploy infantry from reserve via them

Siege shells lets tanks destroy buildings

Medical Faciliity which lets troops in one building get an extra 4+ save

etc.

It's good - get it.

But it is effectively the new Cityfight, right? It replaces Cityfight?

Yep.

Think of it as "Cityfight for 4th ed. 40k". However, it's so different than the old cityfight that it's effectively a new set of rules for urban combat, rather than an update.

Trust me, no one will be playing by the old Cityfight rules now that COD is out.

Cities of death is a replacement for city fight. City fight tried to include a bunch of new rules and changed how a lot of basic game mechanics functioned. All in all I really didn't like it... at all. Cities of death on the other hand doesn't really introduce much in the way of new rules. What it does do is clarify existing rules and how they function within city based terrain. The scenarios provided in the book (at least the 3 I've played so far) are fun and bring some new dynamics to the game. The forgone conclusion of really densely packed, line of sight blocking terrain also alters the usefulness of a lot of units so army compositions tend to be a bit different. All in all, I'm rather fond of cities of death.

Threads should be like skirts: long enough to cover what's important but short enough to keep it interesting.

Yes, I can't wait to field the 12 Arcos and 5 Penitent Engines I just got off of bartertown in a COD battle...should be fun!

If only they got grenades
