With the galaxy as large as it is the odds of the average guardsmen seeing and fighting a marine or MEQ are relatively slim. Unfortunately the guardsmen in your (and anyone else who plays IG's) army are the REALLY, REALLY LUCKY ones that fight marines ALL the time... |

If you're gonna run only one dread you might as well not run any, venerable or not.
So I see: 1) Another dread. 2) Drop dread,320 pts -> get a 5 man 2 meltagun (or plasma) squad for sacrificing to defilers (130), get another 2 flamer squad with a fist (196), drop the stormshield on the librarian to make up the difference (and drop veil for tankhunters on the termie squad). 3) Drop dread, get another termie squad and something else (maybe a 5 man scout squad with a teleport homer for kicks)

A new version of the list, now with whirlwind for some non dropping support:
Termie Librarian, storm shield, fear, veil Termie Command, 2xassault cannon, 1xchainfist 380pts
Termie Squad, 2xassault cannon, 1xchainfist 245pts
10 Marines, bp&ccw, 2xflamer, vet, p.fist, pod 226pts 10 Marines, bp&ccw, 2xflamer, vet, p.fist, pod 226pts 8 Marines, bp&ccw, 2xmeltagun, vet, p.fist, pod 205pts 8 Marines, bp&ccw, 2xmeltagun, vet, p.fist, pod 205pts
Whirlwind 85pts Whirlwind 85pts Whirlwind 85pts
on the troop squads, would it be better to have 2x8 flamer 1x8 melta and 2x5 melta squads?
and is 3 ww:s too many?
also, I really like the shield on the libby for that 4+ re-rolled inv save.

I think 3 powerfists might be light, but the extra melta squad sounds like a great idea. I would say play it both ways.
Yeah, more than 2 whirlwinds is, I think, too much. But it is a decent idea, since it will force some armies that would otherwise castle to spread out and come whirlwind hunting (IG and Tau will simply lose a LOT of points to them whirlwinds, as will Eldar).
